Chapter 106
Chapter 106:
He was still young and his skills were limited. So he could only associate with this scum for the time being.
Matthew looked at the boy. He had started to take notice of Dolores at this young age and he knew how to be grateful. He had to admit that Dolores had raised him well.
They were like a loving mother and a dutiful son.
Just then, a waitress came to clear the table and wiped the table. The cloth had been used numerous times and was dirty. Even after wiping the table, a layer of oil remained on the table.
Samuel pulled the chair closer, “Please sit down.” He climbed into the chair and waited for Dolores to bring the food.
“Do you despise this place?” Samuel looked at Matthew.
Matthew looked at him, pulled back the chair and sat down. He didn’t despise the place but he never came to breakfast at a place like this. Besides, some people would occasionally glance at him. He felt uncomfortable being watched like an animal in the zoo. He didn’t like that feeling.
Dolores brought the porridge and fried dumplings, fried pancakes and eggs. She placed the bowl of porridge in front of Samuel and another in front of Matthew and herself. Then she put the tray back and sat down at the table.
Samuel had started eating the porridge and fried dumplings. He was enjoying them and they looked delicious.
“Why aren’t you eating?” Dolores saw that Matthew hadn’t started eating.
Matthew picked up the spoon and took several bites of porridge. The rice was well cooked and the pumpkin was very sweet. The porridge was very tasty.
Dolores watched his expression and asked him, “How does it taste?”.
“Pretty good.” Matthew kept his head down and took another bite of porridge.
Dolores smiled. Jessica found this store that was close to where they lived. Samuel liked the pumpkin porridge the first time he tried it.
“This is also very tasty.” Samuel handed a fried dumpling to Matthew.
Matthew looked at the dumpling. He had eaten many kinds of dumplings, either made by his mother or in restaurants, that were very well made and delicate. But this one was ugly and looked oily.
“It’s very tasty.” Samuel looked at him with his big round beautiful eyes.
Matthew looked Samuel in the eyes and was puzzled to see what beautiful eyes he had, just like when he was a child. He remembered the picture Coral looked at of him as a child.
He let his guard down and put the bun in his mouth. It was a mixed meat filling.
He thought the oily crust would be tough, but it was crunchy and delicious.
“Delicious?” asked Samuel.
He liked the taste and would like the others to feel the same. So, for the moment, he forgot that the man in front of him was a scumbag. He just wanted to innocently check that the meatballs he liked to eat tasted really good.
Matthew realized his intentions but threw cold water on his face and said, “It’s okay.” Samuel was speechless.
“Hmph, there must be something wrong with your tongue.” replied Samuel as he fumed.
Now, Matthew was speechless. He was very healthy and his tongue was fine.
When they finished breakfast, Dolores went to pay while Matthew and Samuel left first.
In the car, Samuel leaned over to Matthew and asked him, “What do you intend to do, what do you need me to do?”.
Were they now on the same side, Matthew thought.
Matthew signaled him to come closer and Samuel obediently turned his ear to Matthew, “Leave the revenge part to me. You must protect your mommy when I’m gone. Don’t let her be foolish enough to be set up again.”
“My mommy is not a fool!” Samuel burst out.
“She’s not a fool? The bad guys almost made it.”
“She’s not a fool.” Samuel shook his head, “It was someone she knew and let her guard down. She’s not a fool.”
Samuel disagreed with Matthew’s assessment of Dolores.
“If my mother is a fool and you still like her, then you’re a bigger fool.” Samuel insisted.
Matthew was speechless. What he was saying seemed logical. He could only admit that Dolores wasn’t a fool, otherwise this boy would still be arguing with him.
“I’ll protect my mommy well.” Samuel waved his hand at her, “Give me your phone number. Then we can stay in touch.” Samuel had even thought about the details.
Matthew handed him his phone and Samuel dialed his own number. After the call went through, he handed the phone back to Matthew and said, “Here, this is my number and now I have yours.”
Samuel extended his hand officially, “Let’s work together.”
He was very amused by Samuel’s little hand. Was it necessary to be so formal? All right then. He held out his hand and shook her little hand. It was small, fleshy and tender.
“Fellows!” Matthew said.
“We agree!” Samuel declared.
“What kind of agreement?” Dolores paid for breakfast and heard Samuel say this as soon as he got into the car.
She looked at her son and then at Matthew and asked curiously, “What are you two talking about?”
“Did we say something?” Samuel couldn’t think of a reason and refused to admit it.
“Am I wrong?” Dolores frowned. She had not been mistaken. She clearly heard Samuel speak.
“You heard wrong.” Samuel leaned into her embrace and clutched at her neck shyly,
“Mommy, you’re not old, why are you getting confused?”
“You rascal.” Dolores ruffled Samuel’s hair. Matthew looked at them in the rearview mirror and his eyes lit up.
Back at the apartment complex, Matthew waited while Dolores drove Samuel back to the apartment.
Dolores got back in the car and asked, “Are you going to the office?”
“Give me the evidence.” He demanded.
Dolores was stunned, “What proof…?” She asked and then realized what he meant.
“They’re with Terry.” She said.
“Make him give them to you.” Matthew asked.
“You want them?” Dolores didn’t understand why he wanted the evidence.
“Do you think with the evidence you can deal with her legally?” The Herbert Family business wasn’t big, but their connections were strong. As long as they spent some money, they would be able to suppress any legal case. Not only could they not suppress it, but they would also reveal their intentions.
“Do you want to help me?” Dolores asked suddenly. She partly expected it, but she didn’t trust him to help her in this matter. He acknowledged simply.
Dolores clenched her hands and looked out the window, she didn’t want him to see her rejoice. It was the first time her hopes were not dashed.
After a while, she called Terry.
Terry was quite excited, “Let me tell you something. I’ve found the lawyer for the B-town society. I was just about to look you up. Let’s find a time to discuss this and decide when to file litigation.”
“When are you free?” asked Dolores.noveldrama
“Whenever you want.”
“Let’s meet and bring the evidence,” said Dolores.
“Okay.”
“Where will we meet?” asked Terry.
“At the WY Group,” Matthew said because he needed to go to the office now. Dolores realized she was driving into town. After hanging up the call with Terry, Dolores pursed her lips and asked, “If you’re going to the office, what am I going to do?”
He reached out and stroked her palm, “Keep me company.”
