Chapter 385 The Enemy of My Enemy

From the moment Jose could remember, he’d been taught to respect his older brother, to always put Johnathan first.

And for a long time, he truly believed it. Even when Johnathan never gave him so much as a passing glance, Jose still looked up to him.

But not anymore–not since last time.

Johnathan never saw them as family. So why did Jose have to keep stepping aside?

He didn’t feel like he owed Johnathan anything. If his mother couldn’t keep her man, that was her own failure. Why did she get to blame everything on them?

His mom was crazy too. All those years of giving in… and she was still giving.

Now, just for Johnathan’s sake, she was actually willing to send him away.

Sometimes, Jose seriously wanted to ask her: Who’s your real son?

He drove to the bar he’d been frequenting lately. He had his own private room there. But without Shane–who had since been exiled–it was just him now.

Drinking alone was boring, so Jose sat out in the lounge. noveldrama

He was striking and sharply dressed. The moment he sat down, people–men and women alike–started approaching. He waved them all off, uninterested.

He drank and silently mulled over how to deal with Johnathan.

He’d thought Quinn might destroy Johnathan and Sierra’s relationship–make his perfect brother feel pain for once.

But clearly, he’d overestimated her. She’d barely lasted before screwing up.

If even Quinn wasn’t good enough… who was?

As his frustration simmered, someone slid into the seat beside him.

“Need help?” the stranger asked.

Jose didn’t even lift his head. “Get lost.”

“I can help you get what you want. Want to try?” the man coaxed.

Jose didn’t even bother repeating himself. He just scowled and prepared to leave.

That’s when the man said, “Having a brother that perfect must be tough.”

Jose froze, his eyes narrowing sharply.

“Who are you?”

His and Johnathan’s identities were closely guarded. No ordinary person should even know who they were–let alone that they were brothers.

Jose studied the man. Average looks. Completely unfamiliar. Which only made him more wary.

Noticing the suspicion in Jose’s eyes, the man gave a small smile.

“No need to be so guarded. In this case, we share the same enemy,”

“You want to bring Johnathan down? So do I.”

Jose sneered. “You want to team up? What makes you think you’re worth it?”

The man leaned in and whispered a few words.

Jose’s expression changed.

After a moment of silence, he asked, “What do you want me to do?”

“Help me get Quinn out.”

Jose’s eyes narrowed. “You get her out, and you think you can take Johnathan down?”

“I won’t say it’s a sure thing–but we’ve got a fifty–fifty shot.”

“And you know what Quinn’s capable of. With her on our side, the odds go way up.”

Jose studied him, eyes cold, calculating.

Finally, he said, “I can’t promise anything. I’ll try.”

“Good enough,” the man replied with a smile.

Jose left quickly.

In the days that followed, Johnathan was tied up with work. He hadn’t had time to dwell on personal matters–though, truthfully, he still hadn’t made up his mind about them anyway.

That was when he suddenly got a call from Stone.

“What? Quinn escaped?”

Yes,” Stone said.

It was too sensitive to discuss over the phone, so he came to Johnathan’s office in person.

“Quinn had a sudden flare–up of her blood condition. The detention center couldn’t handle it, so they transferred her to a hospital.”

“She escaped from the hospital,” Stone explained.

“What about the surveillance footage?” Johnathan asked.

Stone had already come prepared. He pulled up the video.

A doctor led a nurse into Quinn’s room. When they came out, the doctor was still therebut the nurse wasn’t the same.

Johnathan instantly recognized the second nurse–it was Quinn.

It was such a simple swap. Almost laughably so.

“Have you investigated?” Johnathan asked.
