Just moments ago, Adeline had been pressing Sophie aggressively, but now she
looked completely stunned, her voice shrill with disbelief.
She said, "Dale, what nonsense are you saying? We just barely survived. Why are you resigning from your post?"
Dale replied, "My mind is made up.”
He closed his eyes briefly. After giving a respectful bow to both Eliza and Sophie, he looked at Adeline. "You are my wife. I've decided to resign and leave Hasen City. Will you return to our hometown with me, or remain here in Hasen City?"
Marquis's estate hailed from the Nevill family in Fotidia. If he resigned and returned home, it would mean returning to Fotidia.
Adeline had initially wanted to dissuade her husband, to stop him from making such an impulsive decision.
But upon seeing the resolute expression on his face, she realized he was serious. After more than a decade of marriage, she knew Dale wasn't threatening her, nor was he joking. He truly intended to resign.noveldrama
She opened her mouth to speak, but after glancing down at her son, now battered and broken, her eyes reddened with emotion.
She said, "Dale, you can't leave me behind. If you're going, then I'll go with you. We'll take Caleb and leave Hasen City together."
Hearing this, the stern look on Dale's face melted into gentle warmth. He pulled her into an embrace and nodded. "Yes, we'll go together."
"Who said you could leave?" At that moment, Sophie's voice rang out coldly from behind, sharp and menacing.
Sophie sneered, "You think the debt you owe me can be repaid with a mere apology and a resignation? I never said I'd let you off that easily."
"What do you want then?" Dale, still holding Adeline, turned to face her.
Sophie glared at the two of them with ice-cold eyes, then suddenly let out a sharp laugh. "I want you to choose. Only one of you can leave. Caleb, that idiot, can crawl away, but between the two of you, one must stay."
She pointed at Adeline. "Either you stay..."
Then pointed to Dale. "Or you stay in her place. And whoever stays must die."
"You!" Adeline exploded in anger. "Are you insane? Even now, you still want to harm others?"
Sophie sneered. "So what if I am? You think just because I've lost my parasites, I can't kill you? Please, I have a hundred ways to kill someone."
Adeline's expression faltered, fear flashing in her eyes. She instinctively looked to Eliza for help.
Eliza rubbed her forehead, for once feeling a strange sort of empathy for Sophie. After all this chaos, this old couple suddenly started putting on a touching display of affection.
"Just go,” Eliza said coldly. "If you've made your decision, then leave now. Caleb is badly injured but won't die. Get him treated as soon as possible. Take your remaining servants and leave. The farther away, the better."

Adeline's eyes lit up at her words. She quickly tugged at Dale's sleeve.

He, in turn, cautiously glanced at Sophie, clearly still on guard, while reaching
down to lift up his son to carry him away.
But just as he turned around, Sophie made her move.
Sophie snapped, "I said you're not leaving!"
A dagger suddenly appeared in her hand, and she lunged at Dale.
He had been anticipating her attack and immediately kicked the dagger out of her hand with a swift motion.

But the next second, the corpses of the parasites at Sophie's feet suddenly began to twitch. One after another, they flipped over and swarmed toward Adeline, Dale, and Caleb.
"Watch out! These bugs! They're not dead!" Adeline shrieked in terror.
Sophie paid her no mind. After unleashing this technique, her eyes fixated on a small pile of rotting flesh nearby.
That pile was the remains of her original King Parasite.
She wanted to see if her final trump card, the Parasite Corpse Technique, could bring her King Parasite back to life.
The next second, that pile of decayed flesh actually started to move. It actually worked.
Sophie instantly felt that familiar bond forming again. Just as a glimmer of joy appeared on her face. It froze.
Though the flesh moved, before it could reassemble into a full form, the residual poisonous powder still on it suddenly
reacted.
The poison flared up again, sizzling and hissing, melting the reanimated flesh until
it dissolved into a puddle of blood.
The faint contract bond snapped instantly, backlashing on Sophie once more.
She cursed, "Damn it! I'll make you all pay with your lives for my King Parasite's death!"
Blood at the corner of her lips, Sophie bit her lower lip, her eyes blazing with hatred as she screamed at Eliza and the others.
But just
ercing insect cry, sharper and more bone-chilling than Sophie's own, suddenly echoed through the room.
cted parasite corpses on the ground trembled, as if encountering a predator. One by one, they froze in ey shivered violently, began exploding from within with loud pops.
He stared in disbelief. Just one insect call, and it shattered her Parasite Corpse Technique.
was her greatest secret weapon, something she had painstakingly obtained from Rodrigo.
Unwilling to accept it, she turned a venomous glare toward Eliza, and the butterfly perched lightly on her finger.
