The Heiress Nobody Saw Coming (Natalie and Marcus)

Chapter 527 The One Behind the Jenkins Family's Ruin

As Charlene laughed, Hector felt a tingle spread across his skin, realizing she might not be as innocent as she appeared.

"Don't worry, Hector," Charlene quickly reassured him, seeing the shift in his expression. "I'm just a young girl. Everything I do and say is what my grandma tells me to."

She continued, "My job was to deliver that phone to Natalie. I assumed my work was finished once I did that. However, after you all brought me back, my grandma gave me another mission. I'm just passing along information. There's honestly nothing more I can do.

"Hector, come with me to meet my grandma. Once you meet her, as long as you don't bring me back here, I won't have any more tasks.

Her voice carried a hint of frustration as she added, "Honestly, I'm just 18 and still a student. I don't really get the grudges between our parents' and grandparents' generations. I just want to finish this assignment and return to my studies.

"If Mr. Holden Senior hadn't been faking his madness and refusing to tell Marcus and Natalie the truth, I wouldn't have been running around with you. I didn't even have the chance to grab the dolls Mr. Watson won for me, and I really liked them."

"Next time I run into him, I'm going to ask for his help in winning more dolls," Charlene declared, swiftly changing the subject.

Hector was taken aback, but seeing her sincere and troubled look, he figured she was likely telling the truth this time.

"Let's go," she said.

"Okay."

Hector walked to the door and took out his phone to send a message to Natalie, "Nat, you and Marcus should visit Sky in prison. Charlene suggested it and mentioned you might discover something new."

Moments later, he received Natalie's reply, "Got it, Hector."

Hector slipped his phone back into his pocket and glanced back to see Natalie, phone in hand, standing with Marcus as they made their way to the door as well.

"Hector, convincing Natalie is a breeze!" Charlene laughed as they swiftly left the Walker residence.

Hector silently guided her to his car and opened the door for her. As they drove away from the Walker residence, Charlene lowered the window and gazed at the scenery whizzing by.

"Hector, have you ever experienced love? Have you ever felt hatred for someone?" she asked, staring at him. "My name... Charlene... Natalie suspected my name had a connection to Charles Holden's name, and she was correct. But this isn't a story about love. It's about hate."

She turned to gaze out of the window again, her tone becoming melancholic. "My grandmother went through a lot of hardship, and my mom's life hasn't been easy either."

She continued. "My grandmother instilled hatred in my mom from a young age, yet my mom never let that affect me. I enjoy a joyful, healthy, and vibrant life, while my mom has battled depression for years. Without me, she might have ended her life to escape my grandmother's influence.

"Years ago, the Jenkins family was well-known in Dithoria State. But one day, a devastating fire broke out, and everyone in the Jenkins family died except for Vivian, who was married to Mr. Holden Senior. Have you heard about this?"

Hector kept his eyes on the road as he drove. He replied, his voice calm and detached, "The fire at the Jenkins family's property raged for quite a while before it was extinguished. Over a hundred bodies were recovered from the wreckage.

"The event caused quite a commotion, prompting a lengthy investigation by the authorities, but they couldn't uncover anything, not even the fire's origin. Ultimately, it remained an unsolved mystery.

"The Jenkins family experienced numerous losses, and it was Mr. Holden Senior and his wife, Vivian-Yvette's sister-who organized the funerals for them."

"I've been with you the entire time, and I haven't noticed you checking your phone, yet you've sent a message to Natalie at the gate. did you suddenly become so informed?" Charlene turned away from the view, directing her gaze at Héctor, who was concentrating on driving.

"I just remembered," Hector said, glancing at Charlene. "After the Jenkins family's house burned down, their land was cleared and auctioned off. My grandfather bought it and gave it to my parents to be developed. The Jenkins estate is now Luminara Park, managed by the Walker Group.

"When my parents retired, Sky took over the Walker Group. A few years back, I reviewed the renovation project for Luminara Park. When you mentioned your grandmother is Yvette, I finally remembered where I saw her name.

"In the Walker, family, whenever one of the five brothers works on a project, the rest make sure to understand the background. So, hot just me, but my brothers also know how the land for Luminara Park was acquired. Since Nat wasn't brought up in the Walker family, she hasn't learned about this yet."

"Hector, are you aware of who was behind the Jenkins family's ruin?" Charlene fixed her gaze on Hector's side profile. "I know who it was, and I can reveal it to

you."noveldrama

Hector kept his hands steady on the steering wheel and eyes locked on the road. "Who?"

Charlene's lips twisted into a mocking smile. "Vivian."

She added. "Vivian is the mastermind behind the Jenkins family's downfall. Mr. Holden Senior wasn't directly involved. But he was complicit, which explains his fear when he sees me. He likely doesn't understand why my grandmother survived back then."

"He had covered for Vivian. She caused the deaths of many in the Jenkins family. My grandmother survived because her maid saved her. And do you know who that maid's daughter is? It's Cindy, who serves your mother in the Walker family and later cared for Emma."

Hector suddenly hit the brakes, and the car was abruptly hit from behind, causing it to lurch forward a few feet.

"I'm really sorry for causing the accident," Charlene apologized, her voice full of regret. Although she was secured by a seatbelt, she still jolted forward slightly. However, she appeared unfazed.

Hector shot her a glare, but then dismissed her as he switched off the engine and exited the vehicle to address the collision at the back.

Charlene remained in the car. She took out her phone to send a message to her grandmother. "Grandma, I told Hector everything you wanted me to. He got a bit upset and hit the brakes, which caused us to get rear-ended."

Yvette replied, "Make sure to bring him to see me."

Charlene messaged back. "I will, Grandma."

After putting her phone away, she waited. Shortly after, Hector returned to the car

after settling the matter of the accident. He restarted the engine and drove off without saying a word.

"Hector, are you upset?" Charlene asked cautiously. "Please don't be mad at me. I'm just 18, practically still a child."
