Chapter 842

Grace shook her head, her eyes tired yet resolute.

“Grandma, dinner’s ready,” Noel announced as he pushed open the door. Spotting Manuel in the room,

he rolled his eyes! “What brings you here?”

Manuel, trying to appear endearing, said, “Noel…”

“Don’t call me that.” Noel chuckled dryly. “You bolted faster than a rabbit during the compatibility tests,

but once a suitable donor was found, you’re suddenly in the picture. You’re really trying to play me,

aren’t you?”

Manuel’s face flushed with embarrassment as his motives were laid bare.

“Just go home, will you?”

Grace, wishing to avoid any squabble, firmly showed him the door.

Without further ado, Manuel left, taking his bruised ego with him.

After he was gone, Noel approached Grace’s bedside. “Grandma, you shouldn’t bother with him. He’s

not worthy of being a Salter.”

Cowardly and irresponsible.

His heart belonged only to Leda and her son. Had he ever thought of his own son? Or of Grace, his

mother?

“My grandson is the one who’s truly there for me.”

Noel stayed by Grace’s side in the hospital, giving Brittany a much-needed breather to return to her

studio.

Kari updated her on their project, and just before leaving, she asked, “Brittany, how’s Grace doing?” This is from NôvelDrama.Org.

“She’s out of the woods, but she needs rest. If all goes well, she might have the transplant by the end

of the month.”

Kari nodded. “That’s good to hear.”

Kari paused and asked, “Does that mean Joie’s back in the picture?”

Brittany felt like fate was playing cruel games, but for Grace’s sake, she would tolerate Joie. “For now,

yes.”

Kari’s lips thinned. “Is there a chance…”

Could Joie hurt Brittany again? If something happened once more, could Brittany survive it?

“She’s in the hospital, under constant surveillance. She won’t be able to some time.”

Make a move for

Isaac had learned his lesson; he’d hired the most reliable bodyguards to watch Joie round the clock.

Furthermore, she was equipped with a state-of-the-art GPS tracking device-hidden and inescapable.

Though Brittany didn’t mention this to Kari.

Kari had an appointment in the afternoon, so she took her leave.

Stepping out of the studio, Kari hailed a cab, only to find Nathan behind the wheel.

“Why are you driving a cab?”

The esteemed second son of the Jarvis family and a favorite in Isaac’s circle, reduced to driving for a

ride-share service?

“I wanted to talk to you.”

Nathan’s gaze was fixed on Kari. After months without contact, this was their first encounter.

Kari sighed, “There’s nothing left to talk about. I’ve said all there is to say.”

Nathan clenched the steering wheel, his eyes heavy with sorrow. “What do you want me to do? Send

my father to jail?”

“Isn’t that what he deserves?” Kari retorted. “He killed my father. Shouldn’t he pay for that?” “Kari, you

know I can’t do that…”

“Then there’s nothing to discuss.” Kari took a deep breath. “Nathan, I really liked you once. I wanted a

life with you. But I can’t marry the son of my father’s killer.”

She had truly liked Nathan, longed to be with him day and night.

But there was no going back.

Kari opened the car door. “Please, don’t come after me anymore.”

Nathan couldn’t hold back any longer. He stepped out of the car, grasping Kari’s arm in a tight grip, his

voice hoarse, “You’ve been close with Ronald lately. Are you two together now?”
