Chapter 759
Chapter 759
Grace wasn’t fond of Carla’s attitude. “Carla, whatever is going on between Zac and Bri is their business, not ours. We’re on the sidelines. Let’s keep our comments to ourselves.”
Carla’s dislike for Brittany wasn’t just about Isaac. A lot of it had to do with her rocky relationship with William.
Even after they got married, William never gave Carla anything. He barely ever set foot in their new house. Carla blamed her unhappy marriage on Brittany. She held a deep grudge against her. But she never considered that she was the one who made William carry the burden of being the bad guy.
William might seem like a gentleman, but he was a man after all. How could he possibly foster affection for Carla when he was labeled as a villain? Let alone truly like Carla.
Carla bit her lip in frustration. “Alright, I got it.”
The news of Isaac’s hospitalization spread like wildfire, and many people came to visit him.
Joie also made a few visits. Grace remained as polite as ever, although there was a subtle hint of unfamiliarity in her demeanor.
Isaac had a strong constitution and was recovering quickly. However, Brittany had quite a few minor health issues and had to stay in the hospital for nearly half a month before she could get out of bed.
Kari took over most of the work at the studio. “Brittany, the police have looked into the car accident. The perpetrator had a mental illness and was drunk that night. After the truck rolled down the cliff, the perpetrator died on the spot.”
With this, the case went cold.
“As for Natalie, the police have obtained evidence, and the Palmer family has abandoned her. An investigation has been initiated.”
Brittany pressed her temples. “I see.”
Kari was still somewhat worried about Isaac. “Brittany, aren’t you going to visit Mr. Salter?” Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Rumor has it that Isaac had woken up.
Brittany paused as she was taking her medicine. She had to take dozens of pills every day, so even her breath smelled of medication.
“His issues have nothing to do with me.”
“Brittany, are you still upset about what happened five years ago?”
Kari thought that once Brittany knew the truth, she would reconcile with Isaac.
Brittany swallowed her medicine, took a big gulp of water to wash down the bitter taste, and after a long pause, voiced her thoughts. “The pain I’ve endured won’t be diminished just because there’s a reason for it.”
Especially when Isaac could have found a better way to handle it instead of taking it all on himself.
Kari seemed to understand Brittany’s point of view. “I see.”
At 3 p.m.
Kari received a call from the studio. She had a meeting to attend, so she told Brittany to rest well and then left.
After stepping out of the room, Kari saw a man standing outside the door. She jumped in surprise and stuttered, “Mr. Salter… Why are you here?”
Isaac was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown. His recent injury had left him much thinner, and there was a coldness in his eyes.
“I came to see her.”
There were still scars on Isaac’s face from the accident.
Kari instinctively tried to stop him, but then she seemed to remember something. “Brittany can’t get out of bed yet. She didn’t mean to not visit you.”
She instinctively defended Brittany. But Isaac knew better. He knew Brittany was intentionally avoiding him.
After Kari left, Isaac slowly pushed open the door to the room. Brittany, as if sensing his presence, turned her head to look at him.
Their eyes met, and for a moment, it was as if two different worlds had collided. They both froze.
After a long pause, Isaac slowly walked into the room. “Are you feeling better?”
Brittany knew he would come. “Much better. Thank you for your concern.”
Isaac’s deep eyes were fixed on Brittany. He walked over to her bed and sat down. “I’ve been awake for half a month, and you haven’t visited me.”
His words carried a hint of resentment.
“Mr. Salter, I don’t think we are on visiting terms.”
Ignoring her protest, Isaac leaned in and hugged her. “Nathan told me. You know everything about what happened five years ago.”
Brittany stiffened slightly, instinctively wanting to push him away. But, considering Isaac’s condition, she didn’t.
“So, what if I know?”
What could her knowing change?
