Chapter 409 Something’s Going on
The cooperation agreement between Janet, Donahuetel, and Nigel was still in the works, but some con
firmed matters have already been set in motion.
Janet bad her hustle full with things that required her personal attention and follow–
up. As a result, the lights at the Green Building were burning bright tonight.
The sorters of the working group were all gathered in a large conference room, including Janet herself.
She didn’t put on airs and preferred to sit and work alongside her team for more efficient communicatio
n.
After more than three hours of intense focus, Janet stood up and stretched. Glancing at her watch, she saw that it was already half past nine.
The staff at their desks all looked exhausted. Janet beckoned to Marco and told him to order some foo
d.
As Marco was about to leave to carry out her orders, the dedicated line to the front desk suddenly rang
.
Marco answered the phone and heard a formulaic female voice on the other end.
“Mr. Webster’s assistant from the Webster Group has brought supper. Shall I send him
Marco paused, puzzled. How did Mr. Webster know they were working overtime?
He told her to hold on for a moment before turning to Janet.
“Alfred is downstairs. He says he’s ordered supper for everyone.”
The conference room was quiet, and Marco‘ voice was not low, so the staff of the working group all loo
ked over.

Janet squinted at the phone in Marco‘ hand.
She couldn’t figure out what Donahueiel was up to. Wasn’t he the one who insisted on not pestering he
r the last time they ate together? Did he lose his memory after being beaten up and forget what he said
?
Or did the beating knock him out of his nuts?
Not knowing what he was playing at, Janet was about to refuse when someone beat her to it and starte
d cheering.
“That’s awesome, boss!”
“Thank you, boss, for the heartwarming supper!”
Although it was a misunderstanding, Janet didn’t insist on refusing but asked Marco to go bring the ma
n up. Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Given the cooperation between the three companies, it was not a big deal for Donahueiel to treat her e
mployees to dinner.
The elevator doors opened and Alfred led six handsome men in matching black suits into the meeting r
oom, pushing a dining cart.
It was supposed to be just supper, but it was more lavish than a full dinner. Each dish was exquisitely p
ackaged, aromatic, and nutritious.
Even the drinks came in different flavors, both hot and cold.
Alfred personally brought an insulated box to Janet. His smile was as perfect as if it had been measure
d with a ruler.
“Ms. Longfellow, Mr. Webster specially ordered this for you.”
Janet lifted the lid of the box to reveal a thick soup of longan, red dates, tremella, and lotus seeds. Stea
m rose from the bowl. The fragrance was sweet and warm.
The staff members‘ movements became lighter as they opened their lunch boxes. They pricked up their
ears, wishing they could get closer to Janet and listen in on any gossip.
Alfred took out a small blanket from his bag and held it out to Janet.
“It gets cold at night. Mr. Webster wants you to keep warm.”
This gesture plunged the meeting room into an indescribably delicate atmosphere.
“Wow… Something is going on.”
“Is our boss going to have another boyfriend?”
“Ms. Longfellow, do you want our advice?”
While eating, they talked boldly, their eyes flicking back and forth between Janet and
the soft blanket.
Janet stared at the blanket in Alfred’s hand. The temperature had been mild lately, but
it did get chilly at night. The air conditioning in the meeting room was indeed cooler than
usual.
She didn’t expect Donahueiel to be so thoughtful.
Janet flashed a sad look.
Back then, she had longed for Donahueiel’s concern during many cold nights but never
received any response.
It turned out that he knew how to do it. He just didn’t want to.
In other words, she wasn’t worth his attention at the time.
Disappointment had already accumulated enough, and the warmth in front of her was
too late.
The staff members were still enthusiastically guessing who was so considerate when
Janet snapped the lid shut. Her cold voice then rang out.
“Are you guys so idle? Eat quickly and continue working. Those who can’t finish their tasks today will b
uy breakfast for the whole company tomorrow.”
Everyone fell silent, as if falling into an ice cellar. Before they had time to react, they subconsciously gr
abbed their forks and knives and ate quickly.
Alfred couldn’t help shivering.
He had been standing there, waiting for her gratitude.
He had planned to add to the trimmings to exaggerate Donahueiel’s bad situation and make Janet feel
sorry for Donahueiel.
Surprisingly, Janet seemed to be in a bad mood.
“Why are you still here?” Janet frowned at Alfred.
Alfred hurriedly picked up the packing bag on the table. “Uh, I… I’ll be leaving soon.”
He packed the bags slowly and looked hesitantly at Janet.
It didn’t make sense. She had been obviously touched just now.
“Ms. Longfellow, do you have anything else to ask me?” Alfred didn’t give up.
Janet gave him a sideways glance. “For example?”
“For example… For example…” Alfred didn’t know how to bring it up.
Janet didn’t have time to watch him perform pantomime, so she waved Marco to see the
guests off.
Alfred left the building in dejection and returned to the car.
“What’s her reaction?” Donahueiel’s voice sounded from the back row.

Alfred faltered, “Ms. Longfellow is busy. I didn’t see her, so I put down the things and came back.”
Donahueiel stared at Alfred’s dodging eyes in the rearview
mirror and exposed his clumsy lies with a cold tone.
“Be honest.”
Alfred swallowed and had no choice but to tell the truth and added a sentence at the end.
“Madam was quite moved at first. I don’t know why she acted like a different person in the blink of an e
ye.”
Donahueiel’s eyes flickered in the darkness, making it difficult to read his expression. All that could be f
elt was the endless chill emanating from his body.
After a long silence, just as Alfred
was racking his brains for something to say to break the awkward atmosphere…
Donahueiel took out his phone and called Gilbert.
“Donahueiel? What’s up? Getting rejected again?”
The background on Gilbert’s side was noisy, with something like the bass of dance music. He was prob
ably at a bar again.
Donahueiel’s expression darkened, and the bulging veins on his arms betrayed his
irritability.
“You want to lose your tongue?”
Gilbert pouted silently. Every time Donahueiel took the initiative to call him, it was because Janet had c
aused Donahueiel trouble again. But Donahueiel refused to admit it
out of shame.
Not that bold to lay it bare, Gilbert replied nicely.
“Of course, I want it. Tell me, what’s going on?”
Donahueiel clenched one hand into a fist and covered his lips. He coughed lightly in a concealed mann
er before simply repeating the words.
Hearing that Donahuciel was beaten by Beacher and taken to the hospital, Gilbert laughed his ass off.
Suppressing the laughter threatening to burst from his mouth, Gilbert offered Donahueiel some advice.
“Although I haven’t figured out why she’s so cold towards you, since she gives you a cold shoulder, it m
eans she’s angry with you.”
