Chapter 57
THE END OF FINN AND RITA
Rita’s POV
After the short break, there wasn’t really anything serious to attend to, Evelyn has stolen the opportunity to stay with her boyfriend, leaving me all alone.
I rested my head on the desk and a soft exhale escaped my nostrils.
My shoulders mellowed down when I raised my head up and fixed my eyes into the space. I wasn’t staring at anything in particular but different thoughts ran through my mind and I felt a deep ache in my left chest region (Heart)
I released another sigh once I concluded to ask Finn what went wrong instead of listening to the crazy assumptions in my head.
I dashed out of my office into Finn office without knocking, I met him alone busy with the computer. Non challant Charles was absent, he must have left early like he used to.
“Finn, are you okay?” I moved closer towards him but didn’t take a seat.
He raised his head up, surprised to see me.
“I am fine” He replied plainly.
“Are you mad at me or something, did I do anything wrong?” I asked him straight away without beating around the bush.
“No?” He replied after a short silence.
“Then what happened to us Finn?” I questioned.
“There is no ‘Us'” He corrected, sitting upright as he folded his arms.
“Uhm… I mean you changed, like you .. you don’t wanna talk to me”
“You noticed?” He raised his head up.
“Obviously” I said, at least he admitted.
“So there is nothing wrong with you but you are intentionally ignoring me?” I asked and he admitted; “Yes”
“Why?”
“Because I have a fiancée now” He replied.
I opened my mouth in awe, I was never expecting that response.
“But.. but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t interact with me anymore, I have a boyfriend too” I reminded him but he stood up and drew nearer towards me.
“Rita! You have been using me all this while to get what you want” Was what he said.
“Ah! What do you mean?”
“When you knew I was in love with you, you kept on and on and on playing with my feelings and it’s not fair, it’s not right” He raised his voice.
“I… I was never playing with your feelings. I… I thought we were only being just friends!”
“Friends?” He scoffed. “Friends don’t know how it taste” He mumbled.
“What??”
“Oh well, my girlfriend doesn’t want me to have an extra female friend. She’s suspicious of you and mad at me because we were together all through the weekend!”
“You asked me out on a date!” I defended myself.
“Hence, we should keep our relationsh… friendship… nope, interaction strictly business. Keep your distance away from me” He warned and returned to his seat.
I stood right there, gazing at him dumbfoundedly.
Since he now has a love life, why then was he all sweet and romantic towards me last night?
I finally took my eyes off him and sluggishly walked out of his office to mine; Evelyn was back.
“Where did you go?” She asked.
“Somewhere in this company” I said, forcing a smile.
“Come, let’s talk” She said, beckoning me to sit.
“Okay so, I already discussed with the event planners, those in charge of decoratorations and surprises and uhm, I have secretly told some staffs about Adam’s birthday party coming up this weekend! It’s gonna be a big day!!” Evelyn blabbared.
I didn’t say anything, I was lost in thought again. Somehow, I heard her but for now, I wasn’t interested in this conversation.
I didn’t know why my heart was aching.
She finally noticed I barely paid attention to her.
“I’m Adam’s girlfriend and we are best friends. C’mon bring up suggestions! Don’t make take serious decision alone” She snapped her finger at my face.
I took an heavy sigh.
“Did you hear all what I said?” She asked and I only nodded.
“You look sad, why?”
Why? Why am I sad?
Why am I thinking about him so much?
Why did his simple words hurt me so much?
He said he has a girlfriend, then why do I feel sad about it afterall, I am in a relationship too and at least, that makes us even.
It’s all my fault, I was supposed to be commited to my relationship.
I miss our intimate friendship, I miss Finn a lot and I was beginning to substitute him for a physical boyfriend. Finn gave me fun, he makes my heart flutter. I have also gotten all the five love languages I ever yearned for from him.
The saying, you will never realize how precious someone is until you lose them is right. Or maybe Finn was right, it’s high time we better keep our relationship strictly business.
I heaved another heavy sigh.
“Rita – Rita? C’mon say something, answer me” Evelyn tapped me. “You are not listening to me Rita!”
“I am. Yes, I.. I am listening to you” I formed a smile.”I.. I agree with everything you have said Evelyn, you know your boyfriend best!”
