Chapter 1454
Her mother was gentle, virtuous, and beautiful. She was neither greedy nor a gold digger. Her voice was soft, and she didn't have a bad temper. Though so, such a woman men took a liking to could not be seen in the public eye. She would turn out to be a lover for the rest of her life!
Although her mother resided in the Wagner Family's mansion right then, and she could sense her father being more fond of her mother than the legal wife, it was useless. Her mother was politely referred to as the second wife of the Wagner Family, but in their eyes, she was nothing more than a servant.
She had to admit that the first lady was wise. She allowed the mother-daughter duo into the house and caused her father to feel guilty for them, so he gave her proper status and title. Her stepmother did treat her well, but there must always be a reason behind the first lady's actions, not to mention how Raynee had contributed to more than half of the Wagner Group's development.
It was also one of the reasons why her mother couldn't enter the family. Her mother used to be a dance teacher, but the first lady was skilled at socializing. Not only was she from a wealthier family than her mother, but everyone could also note how outstanding her ability was. To put it bluntly, marrying the first lady would do more good to her father's career than marrying her mother!
That was why even if her sister Stephanie, a pampered lady, did nothing, the first lady could support her in the future. If Raynee didn't work hard, however, she might turn out not to be worth a single penny in the future!
It was especially the case in recent years where the sales of machines declined as years went by. Technical training was increasingly valued, so her father turned to investing in the launching of interest-oriented classes. In recent years, they recorded a positive boom, so the classes were in urgent need of all kinds of high- educated talents.
Education is different from others in that aspect. To put it bluntly, certificates might be more important than abilities. If she were to take dancing classes as an example, no matter how well a person danced or taught, it was not as convincing as a certificate. Some parents would only recognize certification as a standard to measure one's ability!
So as the family's focus began to shift, she received more attention!
Sometimes as she saw Stephanie being carefree, and like her, Stephanie was also a daughter, she was always protected by a strong mother and had nothing to worry about. Raynee, on the other hand, had to fight for everything by desperately climbing up the social ladder and dared not slack off. It was a lie to say that she felt nothing. Who was to blame for her having a weak and incompetent mother?
She would at times wonder if she were to be the first lady's biological daughter, would she lead a completely different life?
Since she was a child, she understood that if she did not have a strong mother, she had to toughen up, or she might end up losing her marriage in the future. Her mother, pale in comparison to another woman, told her a cruel fact: men were more realistic and selfish beings than women!
It was all a lie to say that beauty was everything!
In front of interest, men would weigh the pros and cons! A woman with a stunning appearance could only become a man's plaything. Marriage was secure if it were to be built on the foundation of interests rather than love!
It was the crudest reality she had come to realize from her parents' marriage.
"You won't have any future if you're not the legal wife!"
Her mother's words constantly echoed in her mind. Raynee couldn't help recounting what her mother had always reminded her.
"Raynee, don't hand yourself over to a man easily no matter how much you love him. Men will only cherish what they can't get their hands on! No matter how long he is fascinated by your charm, there will always be a time limit to it, not to mention how he takes you as a plaything rather than to have fallen for you."
"Raynee, your virginity is the best gift you can give your husband as a wife. If you decide to stay a virgin until after you've gotten married, you will be grateful for your persistence! You will have confidence in everything you do if you make sure men don't grasp your weakness!"
"Don't talk about how it is in the modern era. The deep-rooted belief and traditions we've held onto for thousands of years can never be removed at once. Look at Madam Jane. Isn't she the best example?"
"Women's grievances are inevitable, but there should be a limit. As to whether it is before or after the wedding..."
After being interrupted, Raynee couldn't help feeling emotional once more.
Madam Jane used to be their neighbor and had always shared a good relationship with her mother. For so many years, she had always led a happy life as a virtuous and beautiful woman. Perhaps since she was oddly similar to her mother in a lot of aspects, the two appreciated and supported each other According to her mother, Madam Jane had always been taking great
care of her before she returned to the Wagner Family.
Deep down, she had always thought that Madam Jane led a happy life. Although she was not rich and noble, she had a husband who loved her dearly as well as a beautiful and clever daughter. The family lived a happy life. They purchased two houses since her husband was considered to be considerately well off.
It was until an incident took place years ago that she realized that it was all an illusion. Madam Jane suffered from domestic abuse. Although it was not a serious punch or kick, her body was covered with bruises. It seemed as though after that day, she resembled a blooming flower that gradually began to wilt. Gradually losing the luster she used to emit, she turned into a worn-out elderly lady.
It was then that Raynee realized it was all a result of the beloved husband learning about Madam Jane's past and knowing that she had moved in to live with a man. The news spread like wildfire, so that was why the two of them, who once loved each other, experienced such a drastic change overnight. He couldn't get over the predicament in his heart, so it erupted. There would always be a time when he couldn't control himself.
Madam Jane couldn't deny the past and was left to silently endure it all, suffering from both physical and mental injuries. Their life, which had initially been exciting and blissful, turned into a complete mess.
Rumors had it that the husband had
tried to win Madam Jane over for
years. The two had been living in harmony and love since they had gotten married, but afternoveldrama
experiencing the impact of the
rumors, their marriage existed in et
name only and was no longer like before. The husband loved her but couldn't help hurting her. The same went for the wife who loved him but couldn't help desiring to make up for her past mistakes. That said, there were some things that couldn't be made up for after years had passed, so things went on as it was. She vaguely remembered running into Madam Jane, who was beautiful as always, but skinny to the bones.
"One would always have to pay for one's actions," was the sentence that hung by
Madam Jane's lips.
It was impossible to tell the person who had been right or wrong in the past, but she had to pay a painful price for her recklessness. She used to be in such a happy marriage. Right then, she might still be happy with her life, but with a sharp knife pierced into the mold of happiness, salt would be added to the wound from time to time...
A few days ago, she saw the news about how Madam Jane's husband committed a serious crime by stabbing the first love Madam Jane had once lived with. After many years, he failed to get over it and resorted to ruining his peaceful life!
The others could do nothing but sigh.
In addition to smiling bitterly, Madam Jane could do nothing!
Was she wrong having fallen in love back in the days?
There was no answer to the question, but for the rest of her life, she had to pay
for the consequences of the decision she had made in the past...
What do you think?
