Chapter 277
Chapter 277
I hate you, Alex! Didn't you have a sweet and comfortable life back with your grandma? Why did you have to come to Dusktown?! As Brian was her husband and her children's father, Rachael was reluctant to share her husband's love with Alex. Thus, the boy became a pain in her neck as she made it her priority to drive him away from home without leaving a mark on him. After all, she believed her life with her family would be back to normal once Alex was back at Sanguine Mountain.
As a grown lady, Rachael was grateful that Alex was just a child because there were so many ways she could think of to torture the boy. Yes! I must torture this annoying child! After all, Rachael was convinced that Alex wouldn't want to leave Dusktown if she let him live comfortably with them. Therefore, she dedicated her time and energy to torture the boy, in order to send the latter a message that he didn't belong with them in Dusktown.
A few days ago, Rachael learned from Alex's teacher that he left with his classmate's mother when the boy didn't return home. She then called the mother of Alex's classmate and was told that the child wanted to return to Sanguine Mountain. Upon hearing that news, she was over the moon, feeling grateful that her sacrifices and hard work had finally paid off. After Alex left, Rachael's mood improved tremendously, as she was delighted that her bitter days were gone. However, her happiness was short- lived when Alex returned with Belle a few days later. Things then took an unexpected turn when Belle and Brian turned their backs on her. How come things are becoming worse?! My mother-in-law wants a piece of our fortune for Alex, while Brian wants to divorce me. Brian, how can you do this to me?! Our children are so adorable and lovely. How can you desert me and abandon your children?! At that moment, Rachael was convinced that Brian and Belle were both out of their minds, deeming the mother and son lunatics deep down. She then clenched her fists and glared at Belle, challenging the latter angrily, "What do you think of our fortune?! A huge pie that you can just take a huge piece of? No, we don't have much money left!"
"What are you talking about?!" Brian shook from head to toe with rage. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
"I'm telling the truth." Rachael glacially added, "Do you seriously think you're really well off? With the amount of money you're making, your pay is considered average in Dusktown. While I can't work because I have to look after our kids, we are all forced to live off you to make ends meet. Furthermore, Lucy and Larry's medical bills cost hundreds of thousands every year because of their poor health. If it weren't for my parents who aided us financially, we would be burdened by heavy debts that would milk us dry."
While every bystander was stunned by Rachael's shameless response, Leigh sniggered audibly in a sarcastic manner. "I thought you were just heartless for having starved the poor boy, Alex, but it turns out that you're also a stingy woman who is too parsimonious to spend a single penny. I bet it must have hurt a greedy woman like you to have one more mouth to feed, right? No wonder Alex looks so skinny. Poor him!"
"Shut your mouth up!" Rachael berated the doctor. "You're an outsider who is in no position to judge our domestic matters!"
"We're not outsiders." Madeline said, "We're lawyers Mrs. Carter had hired. Since you insist that you don't have a single penny left, we'll have no choice but to proceed with the necessary legal actions and let the court investigate whether you're lying."
"Y-You…" Rachael blanched, shifting her attention to Belle. "Are you sure you want to do this, Mom?! Why are you messing around at Brian's workplace? Do you know how difficult you're making his life when he gets promoted in the future? He is your son, so how can you do this to him?!"
"Well, that's exactly what you're taking advantage of, isn't that? You're playing on my sympathy and counting on it to make me go easy on Brian so that you can continue to hurt Alex, right?" Belle looked askance at Rachael with a glacial expression on his face. "You miscalculated, Rachael! I would have died a long time ago if it hadn't been for Yuri. Thus, I owed her my life, and I'll never forget that she saved me from the brink of death. However, I let her down because my son turns out to be an ingrate! Because of that, I only have one son but you, Brian! You're heartless, and you don't deserve to be my son at all!"
Meanwhile, Rachael was stunned to hear Belle's words, convincing herself that Belle had gone nuts for humiliating her son in front of so many other people. No mother would ever embarrass her son like that. How is Brian expected to continue working here? How is he going to face his colleagues? This old lady is a madwoman! She is completely out of her mind!
On the other hand, Brian was left feeling ashamed of himself with a pale look on his face. At the same time, his mind went blank as he could only think of one thing—a divorce. I must divorce Rachael. She is the reason the relationship and trust between me and my mother have been ruined! So, Rachael and I must be separated! "We're going to divorce, Rachael!" He gritted his teeth and said in a determined manner, "I will give you the share of my fortune that you deserve after our divorce, but what's mine will be given to my mother and Alex."
"Don't even think about that!" Rachael screamed. "If you ever dare to file for a divorce, I commit suicide and take Lucy and Larry with me!"
"Go ahead then!" Brian was seen with his bloodshot eyes that were filled with madness. "Because I'm going to join you soon and look after the kids in the afterlife."
Rachael froze in a trance, staring at Brian while murmuring to herself, "A-Are you out of your mind,
Brian?! We used to be a lovely couple, plus Lucy and Larry are your adorable children, so how can you bear to see your beautiful family fall apart? How can you bear to divorce me? How can you do that?!"
"You have yourself to blame for everything that ended up this way because you started it by hurting Alex first!" Brian bellowed at Rachael with a pair of red eyes. "You're wearing like a million dollars with your fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, yet you only gave my mother two thousand every month?! How could you do that to them, Rachael?! Where is your goddamn conscience?! Where is your sense of shame?!" As an educated and civilized intellect, Brian couldn't have thought of a harsher way to put his word. Deep down, questioning Rachael's sense of shame was the most severe way Brian could ever think of to criticize his audacious wife.
Despite the mild offense behind Brian's words, Rachael was still provoked and piqued. After all, Brian had always been a tender, tolerant and loving man ever since they got married. Therefore, when Brian questioned her sense of shame, she couldn't help but feel her anger surging through her. She then spoke with a shaking voice. "How could you say this to me, Brian?! I'm your wife, and I gave birth to your children for you. Are you an animal?!"
"You're right. I'm an animal, which is all the more reason we should divorce." Brian, who could hardly pull himself together, announced, "Once we divorce, you're free to find another man with whom you could entrust the rest of your life. If you want to keep Lucy and Larry, I could let them stay with you, and I'll be sure to pay the alimony you deserve without a single penny less; but if you don't want the kids to be with you, I could keep them instead, or we could both keep each one of them. I'll grant you any wish as long as you agree to divorce, but there is one thing I can tell you for sure—I will file for divorce whether you like it or not."
