Chapter 254
Chapter 254
Sam was about to say something, but then his assistant hurried into the room. "Bad news, sir," he said.
Sam's heart sank, and he turned around.
He handed his phone to Sam, looking worried. "You have to see this, sir."
Sam took the phone, but he almost blacked out when he saw the article. He flew into a rage. "Who did this?" Someone had posted the news of Isabel's operation online. The Internet now knew she got pregnant out of wedlock, but was now barren. He ordered, "Call the PR department and ask them to delete everything on the net."
"I did, but this is going to be hard," his assistant answered quickly. "The news spread like wildfire. It's trending, it's on most online news portals, and even verified accounts shared it. Someone's behind this. Some of them might take the news down if we give them money, but some won't."
"What's wrong, Sam?" Isabel noticed the look on Sam's face, and she had a bad feeling about it. She snatched his phone, and when she saw the news, she screamed. "How did this happen? Who did this? I'll kill him!"
She could not accept what was happening. Isabel hurled the phone across the room and held her head as she screamed. Sh*t! The Internet knows all about this now. Everyone's gonna find out that I got knocked up before I got married. They'll know I'm barren now. Everyone's gonna laugh at me! I'll never marry a rich guy now. I'm done for! She found this unacceptable. Isabel screamed for a moment, then she held Sam by his collar and shook him violently. "Who did this? You have to find out who did this, Sam. I won't let this slide. I'll kill whoever did this!" Her eyes were red, and her face was contorted. She
looked like a demon. She shook Sam a few times, but the pain from her belly seared her. She lay back down and clutched her belly, moaning in pain.
Sam was disappointed by her attitude, but he pitied her. He pressed the bell on the bedside and summoned the doctor.
The doctor rebandaged her wound and told them, "Let the patient rest. She can't do anything strenuous, or the wound will reopen and take a long time to heal."
The doctor left. Isabel remained on her bed, crying her heart out. She was scared and furious. I'm the Taylors' lady. How did this happen? I should have been a princess. I should own everything good in life. How did this happen?
It's all Madeline's fault! She did this! Queenie wouldn't have asked me for help if Madeline didn't argue with her. I wouldn't have gotten involved. I wouldn't have slapped Queenie, and she wouldn't have hurt me. I wouldn't have been barren! And if it weren't for her, Dad wouldn't have kicked me out. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't have even talked to Queenie out of boredom. I wouldn't have gossiped about Madeline with her, and none of this would have happened. It's all Madeline's fault! She cried her heart out. "It's Madeline, Sam! She's behind this! You have to help me, Sam!"
"What are you talking about?" Sam frowned in displeasure. "You have no proof she did this."
"But it's true." She sobbed. "Who else would do this to me? Queenie? She wouldn't dare. Only Madeline would start this whole thing. Only she wouldn't be scared of you or the Taylors."
Sam tapped the table lightly. He actually thought Isabel had a point. Isabel was a part of the Taylors, so any scandal involving her would be an embarrassment for the family. This was huge. Almost nobody in Dusktown would get on the Taylors' bad side. They were too weak to do that, and there was no need. Nobody would attack a giant like the Taylors, unless the grudge ran deep. Isabel was young, so she had nearly no enemies. Only one would be brave enough to go against the Taylors and do this— Madeline.
However, he perished that thought as soon as it popped in his head. No. Maddie's not that kind of woman. She's generous and fair. She would talk to me if she wanted to clear things up. Backstabbing is out of character for her. "It's not her. She wouldn't stoop so low." He scolded, "You have no proof, so stop accusing her!"
"I am not accusing her. She's the only enemy I have. Who else would do it?" Isabel bawled. "I'm your sister, Sam. Why are you always defending Madeline? You still won't help me even at this point? I'm barren, and now everyone knows about it. I can't live like this!" She was scared, furious, and in pain. Her face was white, as if she would die.
Sam was disappointed in her, but he pitied her too. He told his assistant, "Tell the PR to delete the news no matter what. Tell the public it's just rumors. Post official statements and warn the KOLs that are trying to cash in on this. We'll sue them if they keep spreading the rumor."
The last part was a lie. The news was true, but they had to pretend it was not. They had to make the public believe it was a lie. The Internet was filled with fake news, and netizens were usually skeptical about any news unless they were proven to be true. All they had to do was pretend it was a lie, and the netizens would believe it. Isabel's reputation would not be destroyed then.
The assistant said yes and left. He called the PR department and told them about Sam's orders.
Isabel lay on her bed, still crying and demanding Sam to help.
Sam held back his frustration and anger. "Let's put that aside. Tell me who the father is."
Isabel stopped crying for a moment, and she shook her head. "I don't know…" Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
"You don't know?" Sam flew into a rage. "Do you think I'm stupid? You don't know who the father of your child is?"
Isabel shook her head, crying her heart out. "I don't know, I don't know, I don't know! I told you I don't know! Why are you pushing me so much? Do you want me to kill myself?"
Sam felt like he could black out from fury any minute now.
"I found it, sir!" His subordinate knocked on the door and hurried inside. He glanced at Isabel and whispered to Sam, "I know who the child's father is, sir."
