Chapter 52
Chapter 52
It was the pot calling the kettle black. Besides, she had never been with another guy, and she made
every dime on her own.
“Who told you that?!” Brian snapped, knitting his brows together in frustration.
Natalie sighed as Nate, still shoeless and confused, chased down from his bed to stand beside them,
his forehead still hot with fever.
Natalie pursed her lips, glancing back at Brian, her voice gentle, “I’ve no interest in your affairs. It’s not
okay to argue in front of a child, especially when Nate’s got a fever.”
With anger simmering in his eyes, Brian gave a curt nod, grinding his teeth in tacit confirmation. “Fine,
stay then.”
Reid came back from the local grocery store, arms laden with bags of assorted groceries. He had no
clue what the feuding pair might want to eat, so he just bought one of everything.
“This is the young master’s favorite cheesecake. Let him have some to tide him over,” Reid said,
handing the bag to Natalie and pointing to the cake inside.
Natalie glanced back at Nate, curled up on the couch looking forlorn, and nodded silently.
Before she could take the bag from Reid, a hand behind her snatched it away.
Natalie turned around to see Brian, his face a thunderous mask, stride into the kitchen without uttering
a word.
This was a matter of principle, not a case of whoever lost their temper being right.
Unwrapping the cheesecake, she walked over to the living room and sat beside Nate, who was
listlessly watching cartoons. She began feeding him bits of cake.
“Is it good?” she asked softly.
Though Nate lacked energy, he nodded vigorously, eager to please Natalie. “Yummy!”
At the kitchen doorway, Reid whispered to Brian, “I’ve got the security footage back up and found out
the identities of the intruders. They are hired by the Wright family.”
Natalie heard Reid’s words and glanced back at them.
“Call Samuel,” Brian ordered, shrugging off his jacket and rolling up his sleeves as he rinsed off some
lettuce in the sink.
On the other end, Samuel knew trouble was brewing the moment he saw the number of the Howard
family. Their plan had been to knock Natalie out, take her to the Foster family, and force her into
marrying Shawn.
Samuel didn’t dare pick up, instead, signaling to Gracia with a glance.
foiled abduction plan.
“Answer it, will you?!” Lydia urged, equally panicked.
Gracia, with a nervous heart, took the call, only to hear the sound of running water on the other
end.
“Brian?” Gracia called out tentatively.
“Put your dad on the phone,” Brian said, drying the lettuce thoroughly.
“Are you back from abroad?” Gracia hesitated, her tone a mix of coquettish and concerned.
“I won’t ask twice,” Brian replied flatly.
Brian was always unnervingly calm when angry, his thoughts clear and logic sharp.
Gracia didn’t dare defy him further, shakily handing the phone back to Samuel.
“Brian…” Samuel greeted, trying to maintain his composure.
Brian glanced coldly at his phone, “Give me one good reason.”
“Natalie… she hasn’t been home, and we just wanted her to come back, so…”
“Do you know Nate’s here?” Brian interrupted, his expression unreadable.
Samuel was too scared to respond, and the line went dead silent. All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
