Wife by Day, Boss by Night

Chapter 188

The breakdown of Karin and Kenneth’s marriage had turned Brian Into a powder keg of temper. and Herbert knew well the toll a single-parent household could take on a kid.

If Natalie could work things out with Brian, Herbert would swallow his pride and accept her for Nate's sake.

“Now that Natalie's back, if you want to fix things for Nate's sake and have a soft spot for her, you'd better figure out a way to settle your issues,” Herbert said, pacing slowly toward Brian and patting his shoulder with a meaningful look.

“As for Nate... I'll get on his school transfer and bring his records to the Morales family. That way, you won't have to worry about anyone giving me any disrespect,” he added.

Brian and Herbert exchanged a look before Brian murmured. “Okay.”

Herbert hadn't been a fan of Natalie before and even harbored some disdain. But it seemed that Nate's situation had softened his stance.

When Karin let Natalie in, it might have been in line with Herbert's thinking.

Brian had mixed emotions as he watched his grandfather leave the study. After handling a couple of documents and seeing that it was almost midnight, he found he couldn't focus on the words anymore due to his restless mind.

He shut his laptop and headed upstairs.

Karin was coming out of Nate's room when they bumped into each other on the stairs. “I'm heading out. I've got some things to take care of,” she said first.

“Aren't you staying with Nate?” Brian asked.

“Don't you think I'm a bit of a third wheel around here?” Karin replied with a faint smile.

Without waiting for Brian to respond, she started down the stairs.

“Mom,” Brian called after her, watching her back.

Karin turned around, her expression complex as she locked eyes with Brian. She didn’t say much more and quickly left. Karin had let Natalie in, but only for Nate's sake. She still held a grudge against Audrey and her daughter Natalie.

With Natalie around, she couldn't stay.

After some silence, Brian turned and walked to Nate's door. He was about to push it open when he paused and looked toward the room next door.

Natalie was standing before the mirror, wincing as she treated the red and swollen wound on her forehead. She was about to apply a bandage when she heard Karin and Brian's voices outside.

She heard Brian's footsteps approach and stop outside Nate's room.

The silence was so profound that the dripping of the painting brush was audible.

Natalie stood motionless in front of the mirror.

After what seemed like an eternity, she heard the door creak next door. Brian had gone into Nate's room.

She paused, finished applying the bandage, and turned off the light before lying down.

The streetlamp outside shone through. It was too bright. No late risers were in the army, so there were usually no blackout curtains.

Natalie turned away from the light, her mind in turmoil, unable to sleep.

Brian quickly showered in the2 )

adjacent room, checked Nate's bruises to ensure they were minor, and then he could finally relax.

Herbert and Reid had taken Nate to the hospital in the afternoon to get him checked out and to apply medicine. Reid had gone to the central building to sort out some orders, and his phone had died, so he was out of the loop. The content is on ! He wondered if she had taken care of the wound on her forehead. Reid should have given her some medicine when he brought her up.

Brian turned over, silently staring at the wall next to him.

Gazing at the wall, he couldn't fall asleep, and his mind became increasingly alert.
