CHAPTER 28
CHAPTER 28
Chapter 28 Your Daughter–in–law is Pregnant.
I sat down with a smile, picked up the coffee that the servant had just brought, and took a sip.
The coffee aroma was rich; it tasted silky smooth and had a rich flavor.
I said sweetly, “Grandpa, you are so kind. You always share good things with us.”
“No wonder Mr. Bentley favors you; you are really sweet!” Audrey smiled.
I smiled and didn’t say anything more.
After a few more laughs, Barry came to inform us that dinner was ready.
The seating arrangement for the family banquet was all pre–arranged.
It was a round table. Bentley sat in the middle with Quentin, Audrey, and Christopher’s cousin on his right.
On his left were Christopher, me, Charlie, and Evelyn.
Obviously, Evelyn was seated in the least important position.
Even if Evelyn was unhappy, she could only endure it.
She dared to confront me anywhere else, but only at the Valence Manor; even if Christopher and I were completely divorced, she wouldn’t dare to provoke me here.
Bentley instilled this confidence in me.
I ate slowly, and Audrey eagerly said, “Hope, try these prawns.”
“Barry said, you love these; Mr. Bentley specifically instructed the chef to make them. These prawns were just caught from the sea and flown back; thanks to you, we can enjoy them.”
After hearing this, I looked at Bentley, sitting in the middle with white hair on the sides, and felt indescribably moved.
In many ways, Bentley made up for the lack of affection I had experienced over the past decade.
“Thank you, Bentley.”
I sweetly smiled and put a prawn in my mouth. Just as I was about to eat, my stomach churned, and I ran to the bathroom, covering my mouth. I almost vomited everything I had just eaten, feeling a bit relieved.
I rinsed my mouth before returning to the dining table.
Bentley put down his fork and asked with concem, “Are you feeling unwell? Do you need me to call a doctor?”
“Dad,” Audrey, with a lot of life éxperience, smiled and said, “I think your daughter–in–law is pregnant; you’re about to have a great–grandson, and the Valence family is about to have a new member!”
Chapter 28 Your Daughter–in–law is Pregnant.
I hadn’t expected my pregnancy to be revealed so suddenly.
I felt nervous, my nails digging into my palms, feeling flustered and helpless.
Bentley looked at me, joyfully asking. ‘Is Audrey right?”
I could feel everyone’s eyes instantly on me.
These gazes held anticipation, surprise, and envy, each making me nervous.
My brain raced to come up with a believable reason.
My eyes met Bentley’s expectant gaze, and I couldn’t bear to lie to him, but I had to.
I had to heartlessly say, “Grandpa, I’m not pregnant yet. I’ve just been feeling a bit unwell recently; that’s why I felt
nauseous.
Surprisingly, Bentley’s first reaction wasn’t disappointment but congern and care as he said to me, “Have you been to the hospital? You’ve lost a lot of weight recently; let Christopher accompany you for a full body check–up.”
“No need…” I was surprised and subconsciously wanted to refuse.
If I went for a check–up, my pregnancy would be revealed.
But before I could finish my sentence, Bentley was already giving Christopher a threatening look.
Christopher interrupted me in a deep voice, “Okay.”
In front of so many people, I remained silent, planning to find an excuse later not to go to the hospital.
Besides, he might not even remember this later.
After we finished dinner, with time still early, Bentley called me upstairs in front of everyone.
It was the first time he wanted to talk to me alone.
I felt uneasy. “Had Bentley already figured out that Christopher and I were lying to him?”
After we entered the study, Bentley sat down by the chair, had Barry close the door, and said to me, “Hope, please sit
down.”
“Okay,” I responded, sitting down, meeting Bentley’s sharp gaze, feeling increasingly nervous.
In the spacious study, it was just me, Bentley, and Barry brewing coffee on the side.
Indeed, Bentley directly asked, “Are you still going to divorce?”
I was stunned.
Since Bentley already knew, there was no need for me to hide anymore.

“Yes… How did you find out?”
Bentley sighed but didn’t get angry for being deceived.
“Although you are independent, and a little stubborn, and haven’t shown much affection for him, your eyes have left him. But today, you haven’t even looked at him once.”
Bentley’s words were filled with regret.
Hearing this, I opened my mouth but couldn’t say anything.
Yes, one’s feelings for someone couldn’t be hidden; even if I cover my mouth, emotions would still show in my eyes.
Even Bentley could see that I liked Christopher, while Christopher thought I wanted someone else.
I didn’t know if it was because he was immersed in it and couldn’t objectively realize my feelings, or if he had never valued me
I lowered my head, suppressing bitter emotions. I wanted to say a lot but ended up with just
“Grandpa, I’m sorry.”
“It’s my fault, Bentley motioned for Barry to bring me the coffee, “If it werent for me wanting you to marry you wouldn’t have ended up in this trouble.”
I took a sip of coffee and shook my head. “No. You… You just helped me fulfill a dream. Without you, I might b wanted to reach for the stars my whole life, but now, I can move forward without regrets.”
I would always want what I couldn’t have. Since I got Chris, I can let go, which was better than never having had him
at all.
Maybe then, I wouldn’t keep thinking about him all the time.
Bentley’s eyes held only helplessness. “Originally, I wanted to advise you not to divorce, but since you said that, if 1 continue to advise you, then I would be too biased towards Christopher. You should know, to me, you are my granddaughter; even without the title of Mrs. Valence, no one would dare to bully you!”
Bentley’s last words carried a lot of weight.
He promised to reassure me. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
I was deeply moved, my voice already choked with emotion, “Grandpa…”
“Hope, Bentley called me, his expression complex, “Do you know why I don’t want Evelyn and Brenda to marry into the Valence family?”
“Why?”
“Barry.” Bentley signaled to Barry.
Chapter 28 Your Daughter–in–law is Pregnant.
Barry understood, went to the safe, took out a file bag, and respectfully handed it to me
“Open it,” Bentley said. I felt a bit nervous, sensing that I was about to uncover some secret.
Indeed, inside the file bag was a memory card and several photos extracted out from surveillance videos.
The photos showed two women, one pregnant and the other with a good figure.
The pregnant woman was Christopher’s birth mother. I had seen her photo in the Valence family’s group photo, the was beautiful and seemed to be a refined and elegant woman. The other woman was Christopher’s stepmother, Brenda, whom I had accompanied Christopher to visit in the hospital.
I looked at these photos one by one, my heart beating faster and faster!
Finally, I looked up at Bentley in disbelief.
I wanted to say something, but my throat seemed to have gone silent. Bentley understood what I wanted to ask and gave me the exact answer,
