My parents‘ death anniversary was also this Saturday.
After my morning check–up at the hospital, I could visit their graves. It wouldn’t take much time, but for some reason, I couldn’t shake this feeling of unease.
I couldn’t bring myself to tell Christopher directly about my pregnancy yesterday, and I couldn’t confidently tell Elissa now that I was planning to take Christopher with me.
I was afraid something might disrupt the plan.
The relationship between Christopher and Evelyn was like a ticking time bomb in my mind.
Elissa noticed my lack of enthusiasm and glanced at Evelyn’s office. “Has Christopher taken care of that woman?”
“Almost.”
We chatted for a while longer before she went back to the marketing department.
I didn’t know if Evelyn had changed her attitude or if she has suddenly come to her senses.
She had been getting along with me peacefully for the past few days.
I was worried that she would oppose the limited edition design for the New Year, but it smoothly entered the clothing pattern–making process.
“Do you know what the relationship between the director and Mr. Valence is?”
“I have no idea!”
“I was even thinking she might be the legendary Mrs. Valence, but these days, I haven’t seen her interact with Mr.
Valence.”
“Maybe she’s just low–key. Have you ever seen anyone with such a grand introduction? Mr. Valence personally brought
her in.”
“But that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s Mrs. Valence. She said she’s the other woman.”

I went to the break room to get some water and overheard someone discussing Evelyn and Christopher’s relationship.
When I turned around, I caught Evelyn looking at me with a strange expression.
“I thought you would be complacent.”
I was taken aback and didn’t react.
The colleagues who were whispering suddenly scattered like startled birds.

In an instant, only Evelyn and I were left in the break room.
She smiled and placed her cup under the coffee machine. “Why do you always look so calm? I don’t see you getting angry when you win.” you lose, and I don’t see you getting excited wh
I didn’t have the leisure to have a sincere conversation with her.
I poured a glass of lemon water and turned to leave.
Evelyn suddenly sneered. “I just hate you for being like this. Do you think you’ve won? Hope, the game has just begun.”
She couldn’t hold back anymore and stopped pretending.
I frowned. “Did you forget to take your medication today?”
“What?”
*Make an appointment with a psychologist. Don’t be stingy. Although my father–in–law doesn’t have much money, he should be able to afford some medication for his stepdaughter.”
After saying that, I quickly left.
Just as I was about to step into the office, I heard a crisp sound coming from the direction of the break room.
Did Evelyn get pissed off and smashing things? Then, she really should take her medication.
Christopher was waiting for me in the underground parking lot after work.
These days, he had been as doting as the rumors say. We went to work together and went home together. He had Donald deliver dessert to my office every day, and I occasionally received gifts from him.
As soon as I got in the car, Christopher asked, “What do you want to eat tonight?”
I looked at him and raised an eyebrow. “Are you going to cook again?” He has been cooking for the past few nights.
Donna sometimes looked at him with a hint of fear, afraid that she will lose her job.
Christopher steered with one hand, driving out of the parking lot. His voice
was clear and pleasant. “Have you become tired of it already?”
“No, I’m just curious. You rarely cooked at home before.”
“I’ll cook whenever I’m at home from how on.”
“Okay.” Of course, I wouldn’t refuse.

Although I already knew who taught Christopher to cook, as long as he drew a clear line with Evelyn, it wouldn’t affect me. She trained him for me. She was the one who should be angry.

Back home, Christopher changed into his casual clothes and went into the kitchen to cook.
He had a tall figure. The orange sunset through the floor–to–ceiling windows cast a faint glow over him, which made he looked a little bit warmer.
He lowered his head, his well–defined hands skillfully handling the ingredients.
This scene gave me a sense of peace in life.
Christopher seemed to feel my gaze.
He looked over and chuckled. “Why are you staring at me?”
I replied openly, “I just wanted to look at you.” It was not embarrassing to look at my husband. Moreover, Christopher was indeed handsome, he looked like a masterpiece carefully sculpted by God.
Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang in his pants.
He was dealing with the fish and couldn’t free up his hand. “Darling, please answer it for me.”
“Okay.”
I walked to Christopher’s side.
When I reached into his pocket, I felt a bit awkward.
Most of our intimacy was in bed.
Christopher noticed that I didn’t move, and he turned his head to look at me, teasing, “We’ve been married for so long. Why are you still so shy? I’m asking you to take the phone, not something else.”
My checks were slightly flushed.
I carefully reached in to take the phone, afraid that I would touch something I shouldn’t.
But inevitably, I touched Christopher’s sensitive area through the fabric.
I awkwardly took out the phone.
As I looked up, I met his meaningful gaze.
I saw that the caller ID was Donald.

After I answered, I handed it to Christopher’s ear, and he said, “You can just answer it and ask him what the matter is.”
“Donald, Christopher is busy now. What’s up?” I asked.
“Mrs. Valence.” Donald heard my voice, hesitated, and said, “It’s nothing. I just want to confirm a contract term with Mr. Valence. I can wait until Monday.”
Chapter 10 If She Wants to Die, Give Her the Knifel
Neither Christopher nor I paid much attention to this call.
These days, my symptoms of drowsiness had become more and more severe.
After dinner, when he accompanied me for a walk in the yard, I felt a little sleepy.
I went upstairs to take a shower.
Then, as soon as I lay down on the bed, I fell asleep.
I was sleeping soundly, but I was awakened by the urge to urinate in the middle of the night.
I turned on the light and found the other side of the bed empty. Christopher was not there.
I became more awake and heard a sound coming from the balcony.
It was Christopher’s suppressed and cold voice.
“If she wants to die, give her the knife! If necessary, call an ambulance! What’s the use of callin a policeman?”
“She doesn’t dare! How many times has she threatened suicide? When has she actually bled?”
“Tell her I won’t divorce! Let her give up!”
me? Am I a doctor or
In the end, he lowered his voice even more and instructed, “Don’t let anything happen to her. Have a few more people watch over her.” But I couldn’t hear the last sentence clearly.
Christopher turned his back to me.
His hand was resting on the railing, and he exuded a sense of irritability and anger.
Evelyn’s strong obsession with him also made me feel helpless.
Fortunately, Christopher would not continue to indulge her during this time..
After I finished using the bathroom, I found it difficult to fall asleep.

Not long after, Christopher came in. He gently held me in his arms, still carrying the coolness of the early autumn night. It was very comfortable. However, when I woke up, there was no one beside me. I searched the house, but I didn’t see Christopher. He clearly said he would accompany me to the hospital.
Donna said, “Mrs. Valence, Mr. Valence left early. It seems he has something urgent.”
I was taken aback. I wanted to call Christopher, but I remembered that my phone was upstairs and decided to use the landline.
After a while, I heard his tired voice.
“Hello.” I sensitively sensed that something was wrong.

“What’s the matter?”
“Hope, can you let Donna accompany you to the hospital? I’m afraid I won’t have time today.”
