Unforgettable love

Chapter 857

Chapter 857:noveldrama

Michael pretended to be calm and collected as he straightened his shirt collar, “What does Mr. Shawn want from me?”.

Officer Sharp replied, “That I don’t know. You’ll know when you leave.”

Michael stopped asking and assumed it must be about what had happened today. Now that there was evidence against him, Mr. Shawn should take the opportunity to question him. What else could he want but that?

He took a deep breath and left his own office to knock on the stationmaster’s door.

Immediately a muffled reply was heard from inside the office.

Michael pushed open the door to enter the office.

Boyce was currently on a phone call and, seeing the visitor, gestured for him to take a seat.

Michael pulled up the chair in front of the desk and took a seat. His heart was racing with anxiety, but he made sure his face showed none of it.

Hierarchy would always trump anything, and besides, his superior was one level above him in terms of position. He was at a disadvantage when facing this particular superior in the first place, and now that his apparent weak spot had been caught, he could only be the lamb awaiting the slaughter.

“I understand.” Boyce ended his call very hurriedly and put the phone back on its kerb.

“I have nothing to say to defend myself.” Immediately after Boyce hung up the phone, Michael began, “You can subject me to whatever punishment you see fit.”

At this point, there was still an air of arrogance about him. He didn’t quite submit and lowered his posture.

Boyce leaned back in his chair and watched him expressionlessly, “Punishment is the least of it here.” Then suddenly he gave the conversation a sharp turn, “Didn’t you want to take care of that 218 case? You’ll take care of it from now on. I want to see results in ten days.”

Michael’s eyes widened in disbelief as he stammered, “This is my punishment?”

Boyce replied dryly, “Yes.”

“…. Stop trying to buy me off. I will not take your side no matter what. Whatever happens, I will take whatever punishment you throw at me.” Michael seemed reluctant to accept Boyce’s show of goodwill.

“This is precisely my way of punishing you. If you think it’s too mild, how about closing this case in five days?”

Boyce picked up the white porcelain cup from his desk and took a sip of tea from its contents. The cup appeared to be warm as he took another sip before setting it back down on the desk.

Michael was a bit cocky, but he was not someone incapable when it came to work. When Boyce was still the deputy officer at the police station, Michael always felt indignant and unwilling to accept him for that role, as he always considered Boyce’s appointment as the result of extra care from Officer Miller. He had never recognized the ability of others for a long time.

The reason he purposely used Michael’s email to send that video was to cut off all avenues of Michael’s escape.

Wendy must have been thinking right now that Michael was the one betraying her, which would lead her to put up a strong stance against him. The chances of them working together again were slim.

“You better not try to buy me off” Michael was still insisting on his stance.

Boyce chuckled lightly, “Why would I try to buy you off? I’ll only use people who are capable, so if you can’t close this case properly, more punishment will await you. That’s it; you can get on with your work.”

Michael couldn’t pick up on Boyce’s intent at all, so he kept probing, “You’re not angry?”

“Of course.” Boyce admitted, “I almost got fired from my job because of that investigation. You think I’m not going to be angry? However, for something that was not my doing, I believe my superiors will give me a fair trial. I believe in the organization and the party, but as for you, I don’t think you are a vile person. You turn to me because you think you are somewhat capable, but in the end your efforts have done nothing to win the confidence of others.”

Suddenly, a sharp glint descended on Boyce’s eyes “So, did you ever try to find fault with yourself?” Michael said nothing.

“First of all, your attitude needs some tweaking.” Boyce merely touched on the subject, “Enough, I still have things to do. You’re dismissed.” Michael looked at him before getting up to leave.

His mind replayed Boyce’s words, was there something wrong with him?

The moment the door closed, Boyce let out a sigh of relief. He picked up his hat and put it on before leaving his office.

The call earlier was from Officer Miller. He had asked for a meeting.

It must have been because he somehow had news of what happened today.

Boyce left the police station, got into his car and drove to Officer Miller’s house.

It had been a while since he had visited her, and after today, it might well be the last time he would visit her.

When he arrived at Officer Miller’s house, he raised his hand to knock on the door.

Before long, the door opened from the inside, only Officer Miller and Wendy were home. Mrs. Miller was diverted elsewhere by Officer Miller as he knew his wife’s temperament very well. If she were here, she would start defending Wendy again.

“Come in.” Officer Miller opened the door.

Boyce entered the house with his lips pressed into a line.

After closing the door, Officer Miller poured himself two glasses of water and walked over. He placed one of the glasses in front of Boyce.

He sat down and began, “I heard all about it.”

Boyce didn’t respond because he knew Officer Miller wasn’t finished yet. He must have had more to say.

And, indeed, he added, “I also bear some responsibility in this matter. It’s my fault for not raising my daughter right.”

He roared under his breath, “Wendy!” Wendy came up to him to respond.

“Apologize to Boyce now.”

Wendy tried to resist indignantly, “I didn’t…”

Slap!

The moment she said anything, Officer Miller slapped her across the face as he roared, “I’m so ashamed of you. You have done something so despicable and dirty, but you still want to argue. This is too much.”

Boyce pretended not to see this scene as he picked up the glass of water and took a sip.

Wendy cupped her cheeks and her eyes began to sting from tears. She stared incredulously at Officer Miller, “Dad, how can you hit me?”

Since she was little, he had never hit her. However, that had changed now.

“I’m your daughter, you know that.” Wendy’s eyes were red.

“It is precisely because you are my daughter that I hit you. I regret not hitting you sooner, otherwise you wouldn’t create such a mishap!”
