Chapter 117
Chapter 117:
“Dad, I’ll go with you.” Warner stepped forward.
Landon nodded, “Yes, you coming with me is a good idea.”
Among his three sons, his favorite was his oldest. Although he had no talent for business, he was steady and had never worried his family. Now, he was also taking care of the family business.
He looked at the other two again, and immediately felt angry again.
“This matter is not resolved. You two can’t go out. Stay home and think about what you’ve done.”
“Dad…”
Maria wanted to explain that, although her intentions were selfish, it was true that she wanted to be useful to the family. If what happened hadn’t happened, she was sure they wouldn’t have treated them like this.
No sooner had she said that than she was held back by Sampson beside her, “Stop talking!”
“Why?” Maria was not convinced, “My original intention was to do something for the family. I didn’t succeed, but it shouldn’t be unforgivable! It’s unfair to treat us like this.”
Landon clutched his chest, extremely angry.
Not only was he not admitting his mistake, he was refusing to listen to his words….
“That’s enough, stop talking! Can’t you see Dad’s angry?” Warner scolded her.
“Don’t pretend to be a good person in front of Daddy. You’re just afraid Sampson and I will divide the family property and take away your position in the group. That’s why you’re pandering to Dad in every way you can-”
“Enough!” Landon slammed his hand on the table angrily and coughed. His face turned red as he continued to cough and Warner patted him on the back.
“It’s always been that way; Warner licks people’s boots outside and then comes home to lick Dad’s boots.”
Warner was the sole manager of the family business. Mary had been in the Herbert Family home for many years. Whenever she mentioned her desire to work in the business, Warner would make deliberate excuses to keep her from going.
Didn’t this mean she was afraid of losing ownership?
“Now! Both of you get out of here! Go back to your rooms!” Camilla could no longer listen. They were all her own children; they were all equally important to her.
“Let her talk!” Landon opened his mouth. He was breathing hard, as if he was going to faint at any moment.
“Dad! Is it fair to leave the company to Warner alone?” Maria had been unhappy for a long time, and now was her chance to say it all.
Warner looked at her silently.
Landon raised an eyebrow, “You’re talking to me about being fair?”
He wasn’t an old fool. He only attached importance to his oldest son, Warner, because he completely understood the situation.
Sampson went to study psychology, even though he disagreed with his decision, and became a psychiatrist. Now that he was back, he knew nothing about business. Especially in this competitive age, it wasn’t easy.
Wasn’t it too late to learn? Besides, was doing business something that could be learned?
Doing business takes skill, courage and vision.
Sampson had none.
And Mary, she was able to stay by Matthew’s side at first, not because she was capable and talented, but because of her childhood he took pity on her and let her stay by his side as his secretary.
She limited herself to serving tea, pouring water and organizing his daily schedule.
The most important thing was that she was a woman and was going to get married in the future.
Give her shares and let her take them to someone else’s house?
It was out of the question.
And then there was Warner. She went to business school and apprenticed with him after graduation before taking over the company.
Although he wasn’t outstanding, he had been in business for many years. He did not have the ability to grow the company, but he had accumulated enough experience and could maintain the status quo of the group.
Therefore, his eldest son had performed well enough to maintain power, so he also turned a blind eye.
“Calm down! They’re just kids, they’re ignorant.” Camilla walked over and comforted him.
Landon snorted coldly, “Kids? They’re over thirty.”
He looked at his wife, “No one can leave without my permission.”
“Okay.” Camilla responded cautiously, for fear of offending him again.
Warner helped her up, “Dad, let’s go now. I’m afraid things will get out of hand.”
Now that momentum was falling, but time had been short and not many people knew it. If it was allowed to drag on for a couple more days, then it was going to be impossible to cope.
Landon also understood the seriousness of the matter, so he stood up using his son as support, “Call the driver to get the car ready.”
“I’ll drive!” Warner said.
“Okay.”
Warner helped his father out.
Maria looked at Camilla, “Mom, look how biased Dad is. He only believes in Warner and gives everything to him.”
How could she not know what her husband thought?
If Sampson was capable enough, he wouldn’t have failed to involve him. And Mary was a child and had been lost as a child, so their relationship was not deep.
All this compared to Warner’s hard work and thoughtfulness, Landon naturally leaned on him.
“You’ve just made a big mess. If you don’t reflect on it and keep fighting with your family, how is your father going to be happy with you?” Camilla looked at her daughter, “You are a woman and you will get married in the future. It doesn’t matter whether you participate in the company or not.”
“I’m a woman? So what, I’m not part of this family?” Maria didn’t expect me to say this.
What decade was she living in?
What a patriarchy!
“Everyone wrote me off at first because I was a girl, why didn’t they strangle me to death when I was born? Why did they still take me in? Would it have been better if they hadn’t taken me in?” Maria began to cry and ran up the stairs.
Camilla’s body was shaking, almost unable to hold herself together.
Sampson came over to help her, “Mom, don’t be mad, Maria didn’t mean to do it.”
Camilla waved her hand, “If I get any angrier, I’ll die of rage. Help me go to my room.”
“Your father has said that the two of you are not allowed to go out. Don’t leave the house for a few days, lest he gets angry again.” She explained to her son.noveldrama
“Okay.” Sampson pursed his lips and said, “Even though we got in trouble this time, we really wanted to do something for our family, but we couldn’t make it happen. I know it makes sense for Dad to lean on Warner, I’ve never been jealous of him, nor have I ever thought about taking power.”
It’s not that he didn’t have desires or hopes, it’s that his desire wasn’t in power.
If it was really what he wanted, he would have done whatever it took to get it.
Just as with Dolores, he deliberately deceived her out of his own selfishness. As Maria said, he was indeed selfish.
He was just good at hiding it.
In the Nelson Family…
Jayden was practicing calligraphy in the studio. After turning the company over to his son, he had begun to completely ignore things. Calligraphy was his hobby.
Every afternoon, he would stay in the studio for three hours and Victoria would clean the ink stone for him.
Even though they were getting older, the scene was beautiful.
“What are you thinking about?” Jayden looked at Victoria who was staring out the window.
She came to her senses and continued grinding the inkstone, “Nothing. I just miss my son.”
Jayden put a hand on her shoulder, “Do you regret it?”.
Just as Victoria was about to answer, there was a knock on the study door and Thomas’s voice was heard, “Someone from the Herbert Family has come.”
“Isn’t that matter already settled?”. Victoria’s hand stopped in the middle of the ink grind, her tone was a little cold, “What have you come for?”
She thought it was because of the engagement cancellation.
They hadn’t seen the news today, so they didn’t know what had happened.
After Jayden finished his last stroke, he put the brush to the inkstone and said, “Let’s see.”
