Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 800

Chapter 800:

“You’re welcome.”

She opened her mouth again, but Eric’s focus had already shifted back toward the closed door.

In the quiet hospital room, Hadley stirred. Her eyelids fluttered open with slow, deliberate grace, and the sterile surroundings jogged her memory—she was in a hospital.

Hadley’s last memory was collapsing into Eric’s arms—he must have brought her here. What had happened since? Her mind raced to one pressing question: was she pregnant? And if so, had Eric been told? A sudden chill gripped her as cold sweat prickled her skin.

She flung the covers aside, swung her legs over the bed, and made for the door. Her heart pounded in her chest.

“Eric…”

Linda’s voice thundered behind her, the question forcing a shiver through Hadley’s limbs. She bit her lip and let the words tumble out. “Are you certain you’re the father?”

Time itself seemed to pause as Eric’s eyes narrowed, his face hardening. “What are you implying? Do you even hear yourself?”

“Eric!”

Linda squared her shoulders and faced him head-on. “Haven’t you ever wondered? Hadley has never truly wanted to be with you! It’s Denver she’s smitten with. They’ve been sneaking around—you saw them embrace. Who’s to say what else—”

“Enough!” Eric’s voice cut through her tirade like a blade. His expression darkened further, a storm brewing in his eyes as he glared at Linda. “What rubbish are you spewing?”

“Rubbish?” Linda laughed bitterly. “Eric, you’re utterly besotted! Are you so in love that you’d turn a blind eye to her betrayal—”

Her words died on her lips as her gaze locked onto something behind them. Eric stiffened, a sinking feeling in his gut. Turning to follow Linda’s stare, he saw Hadley standing in the doorway, wide-eyed and fully awake.

He surged forward, arms outstretched to steady her, but Hadley sidestepped, offering Linda a faint, enigmatic smile.

“I heard every word you said.”

“Hadley!” Eric caught her wrist, his brow creasing with concern. He softened his tone as he guided her back into the room. “Let’s go inside and talk.”

His words—full of comfort and conciliation—were meant for her alone.

“No need,” Hadley replied, tilting her head and fixing Linda with that faint, knowing smile. “You’re right—Eric isn’t the father.”

A shiver ran down Linda’s spine, a cocktail of joy and exhilaration bubbling inside her. She tilted her head toward Eric, her voice brimming with triumph. “Did you catch that? Hadley just spilled the beans herself!”

But Eric didn’t meet her gaze. His stormy eyes were fixed on Hadley, a thundercloud brewing behind them.

Clenching his jaw, he muttered under his breath, “Let’s take this inside!”

Hadley let out a sharp, bitter laugh, slicing through the tension like a knife. “Why bother stepping inside? Didn’t you hear it loud and clear the first time? I’ve got no problem repeating myself.”
