The Rebirth of a Scorned Heiress

Chapter 60: No Matter The Cost

Once everything online has been settled, Lily goes to sleep only to be woken up by the constant buzzing of her phone.

She groaned heavily with her eyes still closed as she picked it up. “It’s better be something important for waking me up,” she threatened subtly, and Alana chuckled.

“Of course it is important! The online store is buzzing with orders, and now we have a lot of work to do.” Alana reported excitedly. “In just a few hours since you made the post, we already have ten orders for dresses and summer wear,” she reported as Lily got up with a yawn.

“That’s bad. I wasn’t expecting such a huge turn-up for the first day. I guess we will have to employ some other people soon. I’ll be there in a few hours. Did you get everything I asked you to get?”

“I got all the materials ready; we just need to go into production,” Alana replied, and Lily nodded, forgetting the other person could not see her. “Get as much rest as you can before I get there; it’s going to be a busy week.”

Upon arrival at the studio, Lily found Alana surrounded by a pile of fabrics and order forms that had been printed out. Alana had already sorted out the order forms and the fabrics that would go well with the order that the clients chose.

Seeing the excited look in her eyes, Lily swallowed her reprimanding words and praised her instead: “You’ve worked hard. Thank you,”

“Anything for you, boss! You don’t know how excited I am to finally be able to showcase my work. Even though people don’t know me yet, at least the credit will not be given to some other person,” Alana chuckled as she stood up from the middle of the pile.

Hearing her words, Lily smiled knowingly. “How is everything going at home? You know, with Evie and the main family?” She asked, and Alana shrugged. “I don’t know. The whole place has been silent and a little tense lately,” Alana replied.

“My uncle and his wife have locked up recently; it was after Evie’s scandal, and access to the main house has been on invite alone, so we don’t know their plans,” she explained further, and Lily frowned.

“Are the other family members just going to sit around waiting for them?” Lily asked curiously, dissatisfied with such a type of arrangement where family members are treated as subordinates to the main branch of the family.

“Not entirely; a lot of people have been waiting for the opportunity to call them out, and it will be done. But, to be honest, I’m not interested in taking over Evie’s position as the genius of the Thompson family. That position comes with a lot of responsibility, fake smiles, and ingenuity. I don’t want all that,” Alana voiced truthfully as she relaxed against the wall with her arms folded before her.

“What do you want, then?”

“I want to make a name for myself without the influence of the family name. I want people to see my hard work. I just want to be me with the right set of people all around me; that’s not too much, is it?” Alana asked with a hopeful expression as she looked towards Lily.

Lily picked up one of the order forms and examined the designs on them. With a nod, she handed the form to Alana. “Then prove them. Be yourself and achieve whatever goal you have set for yourself at your own pace. I’ll be there to support you all the way,” she encouraged, and a tear fell from Alana’s eyes.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.

“I’ll do my best!” She declared and took the form from Lily.

Frederick, in a fit of rage, swiped everything on his table to the floor after listening to Director Alvin’s briefing about the meeting they had with Mark about the project. “That bastard is always a step ahead of us!” He exclaimed angrily.

“Who gave him the idea to submit it to bid for the federal government project?” He demanded coldly, and Director Alvin flinched back, afraid he might be the next target of Frederick’s anger.

“It was his idea. The meeting was called to inform us about this. I think we should agree to the change of the bill’s architectural design; at least that will slow him down a lot, and even if the federal government gets interested in the security system project, it will be in light with the real estate project,” Director Alvin reasoned carefully, and Frederick snickered.

“Even if we did that, Mark would never relent in his pursuit to get the government on his side. You should know how stubborn he is when he has decided to do something.” Frederick replied with a frustrated sigh.

“But at least that would slow him down until we think of countermeasures against him. Without the state government project, you two are on the same level right now, and it can’t be decided who will be the next chairman, but it will be different if he gets the bigger sponsor. Delaying him should be out of his main quest right now,” Director Alvin voiced.

“That won’t do,” Frederick replied with a shake of his head. He has known Mark all their lives, and he knows best how the other man works. Every stumbling block was like a stepping stone for him.

He always has the brightest idea when placed under pressure. Brushing his hands through his hair, Frederick turned towards the floor-to-ceiling glass window in his office, his eyes glaring at the tallest building not far away, where he knew that his cousin’s brother would be.

“For now, we will leave him be,” he announced, and Director Alvin’s eyes went wide in shock. “Impossible! If we leave him be then” Before he could finish his words, Frederick cut him off.

“Have you ever caught him since you started pursuing him?” He asked with a dark chuckle. “We haven’t; instead, we always seem to be his inspiration. So this time we will leave him to his device.”

“But…”

“Don’t worry. I’m not going to just leave him to inherit Watson’s group. Of course not. My target has just changed for now,” Frederick announced as he turned away from the glass window and towards the confused director.

“By target change, what do you mean?”

“Get me all the information you can about the new programmer he is working with. We will get them on our side no matter the cost or the method.”
