THE LYCAN KING’S SECOND CHANCE MATE

Chapter 0264

ASHANTI’S POV.

“What's going on?” That’s Alpha Reagan.

“We caught her trying to sneak out. She seems suspicious.” One of the guards report as they throw Lizzy to her knees and she looks up with tears filled eyes.

If there's anyone who knows how that wolfsbane got into my dress, it should be her.

Maybe she's here to confess. Right now she's my only hope. These people are not going to take my word. Lizzy confessing that she planted the poison on me is my only way out of this whole mess.

“Do you have anything to say?” Alpha Reagan asks in a gentle voice and Lizzy bursts into tears as she looks up at him with both hands joined together.

“I'm sorry My Lord. I should have reported to you the moment she asked me to do it.”

“What are you talking about?” Reagan asks impatiently and Lizzy sniffles tears. My legs grow weak when she looks at me and sniffles some more.

“The wolfsbane… Ashanti asked me to bring it for her. She promised to give me a lot of money if I

did so. She even asked me to bring her a dress that would enable her to carry it into the hall without anyone noticing. My fault was not asking what she wanted to do with it, My Lord. If I knew about her intentions to poison Alina, I would not have accepted to bring it to her.” Lizzy says in tears and I am so stunned for a moment that I can't even move.

Her words sound so convincing that if I wasn't the one being lied against, I would have believed her.

“No!” The word flies out of my mouth as I frantically shake my head. “That's a lie! I did no such thing.” I look up at Alpha Reagan again. “Don't believe her. I didn't do it!”

“You've heard the maid!” That's Mr. Williams again. God, I wish someone would just shut that man up. “Ashanti poisoned my daughter. She has to be arrested and locked up in the dungeon. Alpha Reagan! Do something about this!”

Calmly, Alpha Reagan pulls me up to my feet and looks at me straight in my eyes. I'm still shaking

my head and crying, begging him with my eyes to believe me.

“As of now, all evidence points to her. She has to be locked up in the dungeon, Alpha Reagan.” One of the Alphas chips in and Reagan shoots him a murderous glare.

“She's the one who's most likely to do something like this. It's true that she's the Future Luna of the pack, but that doesn't mean she should be exempted from punishment when she commits a crime as heinous as this. She needs to be locked up!” Another Alpha insists and soon, even the people standing below are confirming their words and advocating for me to be locked up. Calling me all sorts of names.

“Alpha Reagan.” A crying woman steps forward and falls on her knees. “This is my daughter we are

talking about. This girl standing beside you poisoned her! My daughter deserves justice. She has to pay for what she did to my daughter! Please! Don't be biassed. Handle this issue with the transparency it deserves.” The woman, whom I presume to be Alina's mother, starts wailing like a widow on the floor and her husband goes to comfort her.

Alpha Reagan lets out a heavy sigh of exasperation and turns to the female guards.

“Take her.”This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

His silent order jars in my ears like loud music.

“No.” I cry out, shaking my head.

“Alpha Reagan.” That's Kyle who steps in front of me, blocking me away from the approaching guards. He's shaking his head at Reagan frantically. “She didn't do it! You can't let them take her.”

“Shut up, Kyle!” Mr. Williams screams from below. “That girl poisoned your sister. How dare you side with her. How dare you speak for her?”

Kyle ignores him and looks back at Reagan.

“You can’t do this!”

Alpha Reagan shuts his eyes for a brief second and exhales heavily before snapping them open again.

“I know she didn't do it, but she has to be locked up for now.” He looks at the guards again. “Take her.” He orders and they do just that. As they seize my arms and start dragging me away, my eyes meet his face, but he looks away from me.

He's hurt.

He doesn't want this.

I know he believes me. He doesn't want to lock me up, but he has to do so in order to please Alina's parents and his subjects. This just further proves that he cannot protect me.

His subjects hate me. They will never accept me as their Luna and there's no way he can make them do so or feel otherwise about me.

This is why I want to leave this pack.
