Chapter 712
"If no one disciplines them, they just run wild... Sigh. The few gentle souls in the family are simply too mild-tempered-none of them have what it takes to shoulder real responsibility."
Mr. Burton had a large brood-children and grandchildren, scattered everywhere. There was no way he could look after every single one of them.
He'd raised his eldest grandson himself, teaching the boy everything he knew about medicine, but the young man was too soft-hearted, and though he'd inherited his grandfather's medical skills, he had no interest in business. Instead, he'd devoted himself entirely to medicine, just as Mr. Burton had in his own youth.
Sellers, his youngest son, had never received much attention from him. After Mr. Burton's wife passed away, he practically vanished from the family estate for over a decade, keeping in touch with his children only now and then.
Stella said, "Mr. Burton, as long as you don't blame me for injuring Karl, I'll be relieved."
Mr. Burton replied, "Karl's the only child of my third son. His mother nearly lost her life giving birth to him, so they treat him like he's made of glass.
I've had words with my third son before, but his wife guards Karl like a hawk, as if I might snatch the boy from her.
Frankly, I'm tired of meddling in the younger generation's affairs. If their parents won't teach them, the world will do it for them."
The news of Karl's injury didn't trouble Mr. Burton in the slightest. He'd been fed up with his third son's family for a long time.
He spoke gently to Stella. "Stella, if anything, I should thank you. You've done what I should have done as an elder-taught him a lesson in decency.
As for his hand, don't worry. As long as he's still breathing, my eldest and his kids could patch him up no matter how bad it is.
If anyone else tries something stupid and picks a fight with you, don't hold back on my account. Do what you have to do.
And if anyone makes things hard for you, come straight to me."
"Thank you, Mr. Burton. With your support, I can finally breathe easy."
After her conversation with Mr. Burton, Stella headed to the hospital for a checkup. Although she felt her hand probably wasn't seriously hurt, it never hurt to be cautious
The results came back quickly. The doctor glanced at the images and smiled Ms. Cameron, there's no fracture at all. Just a few scrapes on your arm-some ointment and you'll be fine."
Stella finally let out a sigh of relief.noveldrama
While the doctor was disinfecting her wounds, Joshua went to handle her paperwork and pick up her prescription.
Suddenly, the door to the exam room flew open. A young man-handsome, poised, and slightly breathless-rushed in.
"Star, I heard you hurt your hand! Are you alright?"
Stella looked up in surprise. "Foreman? How did you even know about this? And... what are you doing here?"
Foreman Richards' eyes flickered, but he quickly explained, "I was passing by your studio and thought I'd drop in, but then saw an ambulance taking someone away-covered in blood.
I made some calls and found out Karl actually showed up to cause you trouble." His gaze dropped anxiously to her bandaged hand. "Star, is your hand okay?" “It's just a few scrapes. Nothing serious—no broken bones," Stella assured him. Before coming, Foreman had already pieced together most of what happened. Usually so calm and refined, he now struggled to keep the anger out of his voice.
"Karl went way too far-barging in like that. Does he really think you're someone he can just bully?
Don't worry, Star. I promise I'll make him pay for this."
What do you think?
