The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella)

Chapter 1743

Cassie covered her face for a moment, then peeked over to check out Mirabella's phone screen, only to be met with nothing interesting.

"Did you really send that photo to Nellie?" she asked.

"Do I look like I'm kidding?" Mirabella shot back, her phone in hand as she sauntered over to a chair by the big window and plopped down.

Hearing this, Cassie quickly flipped on her phone's camera. Seeing those dark circles under her eyes, she was instantly hit with a wave of despair. "Oh no, oh no... I'll never be Nellie's favorite pretty face again."

Mirabella just rolled her eyes. "..."

How could someone be so completely shameless?

Ignoring Cassie's melodramatic groans, Mirabella leaned back, relaxed. On her phone's Messenger app, there was indeed a sent picture, but it wasn't the one she'd just snapped of Cassie.

In less than a minute, a reply popped up on Messenger.

Nellie: [Did my advice not work?]

Nellie had been holding back from texting Mirabella for days, worried that she might notice something was up, and any questions could lead to answers she'd rather not face.

Seeing the picture Mirabella sent, Nellie's hands trembled as she clutched her phone. She never thought she'd see Jim again in such a way.

Fifteen years had passed, and time had only refined his features, making him seem more composed. His serene demeanor made it difficult to reconcile with the decisive man she remembered, yet somehow, he fit perfectly with the image in her memory.

Nellie leaned her head back, fighting to keep the tears at bay.

Just then, Mirabella's message came through: [Not a failure, it's just that Chester has lost his will to live.]

Nellie: [Lost his will to live... what does that mean?]

Wasn't he the one who took responsibility more seriously than anyone else? How could someone from a sprawling family like the Davis's lose the will to live?

Mirabella paused, then typed back: [When someone's spirit breaks and they lose what keeps them going, not even a miracle could save them.]

Nellie's face went pale, thinking about Jim's character. A dull ache surged through her chest. There

were things she couldn't bear to net

think about, but once they started brewing, they threatened to topple the resolve she'd maintained for so many years.

Nellie opened the photo again, her fingers grazing the screen as if she could touch the person inside.

Rea had asked her recently if she had any regrets. She wanted to say yes.

But right now, she suddenly didn't want those regrets anymore.

Taking a deep breath, Nellie put her phone away and turned back into her room. Her eyes scanned the room before she walked to the dressing table, pressing a hidden compartment on the side. It popped open, revealing a small drawer. noveldrama

Inside was a key. Nellie hesitated for a moment, then took the key without a second thought.

She left the room, heading to the

door at the end of the right-hand et

corridor. The wooden door was locked, its lock thick with dust, clearly untouched for a long time.

With the key in hand, Nellie quickly unlocked the door and stepped inside.

A few minutes later, she emerged, holding a few items. Just as she was relocking the door, a voice sounded from behind her.

"Heading out?"

Nellie glanced up, then turned to face the speaker. "There's something important I need to take care of."

The voice belonged to Paxton, who looked at the items in Nellie's hands and seemed a bit relieved.
