The Double or more Life of the Fake Heiress (Mirabella)

Chapter 1679

James was seriously worried that Mirabella's prolonged unconsciousness might

lead to complications. He'd known for ages that her body had a knack for resisting medication, so your run-of-the-mill drugs might not cut it for her. But if someone had brewed up a special concoction just to keep her down, it surely wouldn't be your standard stuff.

Grady, oblivious to James's worries, was feeling the weight of frustration, like he was outplayed in a game he didn't even know he was in. Just as he was about to speak up, the door swung open, and in came a doctor clutching the latest blood test results. The room felt chilly, but the doc brushed it off and said, "The blood test results are here. Aside from a weird blip in the IgM levels, everything else looks normal."

Grady, putting everything else aside, jumped up. "What do you mean by this IgM anomaly?"

"Here's the deal," the doctor explained, "everyone has antibodies, like those you'd find in a routine check-up. If you're hit with a bug, the IgM levels usually shoot up, showing a positive. But the odd thing is, this lady doesn't seem to be infected."

Earlier, while checking with the instruments, the doctor had noticed something peculiar-some values in her blood seemed to be in flux. It was like there were other hidden elements in her blood.

With this in mind, the doctor pulled out an unused syringe from his pocket. "I need to draw another blood sample."

Grady took the report, unable to make heads or tails of the numbers, but he got the gist of the "normal" labels. He finally let out a sigh of relief.

Once the doctor had drawn another blood sample, Grady asked, "If the numbers are mostly normal, she should be okay, so why hasn't she woken up?"

The doctor couldn't give a straight answer, "Maybe she'll just wake up on her own later."

Grady felt like punching a wall; such a vague reassurance was as good as saying nothing at all. But he held back. Soon, the doctor left the room.

Pacing back and forth, Grady was mulling over how today's mess was partly on him. He turned to James, "If Miss Mira wakes up, give me a call right away. I've got somethings to sort out."

Even though Grady wasn't thrilled with the guy, he knew Mira was safer with James keeping an eye on her. He was dead set on catching the jerk behind all this.

Grady's face was stone cold, eyes burning with determination. James glanced at him and nodded, "Oh, one more thing, Mira asked not to tell Shawn about what happened today before she passed out."

Grady paused for a moment, then nodded, "Got it."

With that, he strode out, leaving a gust of brisk wind in his wake.

James turned back, pulled a chair up to the hospital bed, and sat down, gently holding Mirabella's hand, which felt warm to the touch. Maybe... she really would be okay.

James pulled out his phone and called Curtis. "Any luck finding the person?"

Curtis knew exactly who James was talking about. "Nope, I've had folks comb through every inch of the place, but it's like they vanished into thin air."

James's eyes narrowed. He knew that shot had landed near the person's heart; even if by some miracle they survived, dodging Curtis's search seemed impossible. This turn of events... was definitely
