Santos carefully placed the fragments back into the sealed bag, noticing Joen's increasingly troubled expression. After taking a thoughtful pause, he asked, "What exactly happened?"

Joen leaned back against the sofa, eyes fixed on the ceiling, and decided there was no point in hiding it anymore. "I accidentally rubbed someone the wrong way, and now they're getting back at me. Over fifty pieces of our lab equipment have been tampered with or damaged."

Santos frowned, understanding the seriousness of the situation. Damaging that many pieces of lab equipment was no joke. Aside from their cost, the research data they held was priceless.

"If they got destroyed, the losses would be off the charts."

"Who would be gutsy enough to mess with so much gear? Did you catch anyone in the act?" Santos paused and then added, "Don't they know you're connected to our base, Doctor?"noveldrama

Joen felt a wave of frustration at the mention of this. He still couldn't wrap his head around how the Davis family managed to sneak into the lab unnoticed. Despite the school's surveillance and police investigations, there wasn't a single lead.

Even if he pointed fingers at the Davis family, without evidence, it would be pointless and might even backfire, bringing more trouble his way.

After all, if they were bold enough to confront him openly at school, dealing with him was probably a piece of cake for them.

So, he had to suck it up and keep quiet.

Joen wiped his face and admitted, "It's the Davis family."

He couldn't tell the school authorities, but Santos was part of the base. No matter how brazen the Davis family was, they'd think twice before crossing the base.

"The Davis family?" Santos's eyebrows knitted together, and his tone shifted to a more serious one. "How did you end up tangled with the Davis family?"

Joen was caught off guard and instinctively asked, "Yeah, do you know her?"

Santos's eyes flared with a mix of recognition and hostility. Not just know her- he'd nearly fallen into Cian's trap because of her last time.

Joen was startled by the intensity, feeling as if the room's temperature had dipped. "Mr. Santos?"

Santos's expression softened, and when he looked at Joen again, his demeanor was back to normal. He simply remarked, "Her condition is indeed special. If it was easy for you to bring her to the lab, that would've been unusual."

"What do you mean?" Joen asked, confused.

Santos thought back to the incident from last year. "She's immune to drugs. Your

anesthetics wouldn't have any effect on her."

Joen realized why Summer's attempt had flopped-it was because of this.

"You mentioned she was at a school conference, is she still around?" Santos inquired.

"The conference wrapped up

yesterday. I'm not sure where she is now, but I doubt they've left Merrywoods just yet." Joen glanced at him and added, "I can ask one

the professors to see if they know where she is."
