Chapter 1637
James always turned into a fierce protector when it came to anything involving
Ms. Mirabella, like a knight ready to fight for his lady's honor. Wyatt was long used to this.
James glanced at Wyatt, sidestepping the topic. Instead, he casually asked, "How old are you this year?"
Wyatt blinked, puzzled by the sudden question, but quickly replied, "32."
"32, huh..." James shook his head, drumming his fingers lightly on the table. "How about I give you a six-month vacation? How does that sound?"
Wyatt's face fell at the word "vacation." "No way, James! Did I mess something up? Just tell me, and I'll fix it right away!"
In James's world, a "vacation" was more like banishment to the middle of nowhere.
With a hint of disdain, James looked at Wyatt. "32 and still single?"
Wyatt finally caught on: "..."
So, James was both rubbing salt in the wound and throwing a bit of shade at him? Just then, a knock came at the door.
Curtis walked in, carrying a pile of files. After nodding at James, he turned to Wyatt, who looked like he'd just swallowed a lemon. "What's with you?"
Wyatt, feeling a good friend should share in the misery, said seriously, "James, Curtis here is three years older than me and he doesn't have a partner either."
Curtis: "?"
What was Wyatt rambling about today? Was he speaking some kind of gibberish?
"I think he needs the vacation more than I do," Wyatt added, quickly stepping aside to avoid any potential backlash from Curtis.
Curtis sighed, exasperated. "Did you get your head slammed in a door?"
Ignoring Wyatt, Curtis placed the files in front of James and got down to business. "James, these are the contracts Mr. Link signed on the sly. He plans to move that batch of weapons tonight."
Wyatt's joking demeanor vanished, replaced by focus. "I thought that old fox would hold off a bit longer."
"Blythe Town to the east has always
been chaotic, so their urgent need for weapons makes sense. But I've heard there's a new force there, taking over the nearby villages, which is why the Mayor of Blythe is anxious to deal with us," Curtis explained, eyes narrowing.
"A new force?" Wyatt was taken aback. "Are they strong?"
"My intel's limited, so I can't be sure, but they shouldn't be taken lightly," Curtis replied coolly.
"Not really our problem," Wyatt shrugged, then turned to James. "Since Mr. Link is making a move tonight, why don't we take him down while we're at it?"
James leaned back in his chair, as;
laas ever. His long fingers
picked up the files, flipping through them briefly before letting them fall back onto the desk. "What time?"
"The insider says ten o'clock tonight,” Curtis replied respectfully.
James nodded, considering for a moment before instructing in a calm voice, "Go get ready."
Wyatt and Curtis exchanged glances, nodded, and chimed in unison, "Got it."noveldrama
They quickly left the office.
James's gaze lingered on the contracts, then he picked up his phone and sent a message to Mirabella.
[Something came up. I might be back at the hotel a bit late tonight.]
What do you think?
