The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn)

Chapter 217

Dahlia's voice was shaky with fear. This wasn't just for show; she was genuinely terrified. Never in her wildest dreams did she think Evelyn would track her down to Greenrose tonight. Was Evelyn really planning to end her as some twisted tribute for Charlie's wrongdoings?

Dahlia instinctively reached out for Charles' protection. But Charles' focus was elsewhere. He was staring at Evelyn, who was covered in blood. His eyes were wide with shock. For a moment, he completely forgot about Évelyn hurting Dahlia. All he could think about was why Evelyn was drenched in blood. Why did she look so pale? Was she hurt?

As these thoughts raced through his mind, his instincts kicked in faster than his rationale. He gently but firmly moved Dahlia aside and hurried toward Evelyn. Dahlia's eyes glimmered with smug satisfaction. Charles was rushing to defend her and confront Evelyn.

But then...

In the next moment, she heard Charles' voice laced with concern. "Where are you hurt?" The warmth in his tone chilled Dahlia's heart.

His first instinct wasn't to stand up for her but to worry about Evelyn! How could he?

On the other hand, Evelyn couldn't care less about Charles' concern. She didn't even spare him a glance. When he blocked her path, she pushed him aside without hesitation and snapped, "Get out of my way!" She was a force of nature, determined and unstoppable as if nothing-not even a king-could prevent her from confronting Dahlia today.

"Evelyn!" Charles reacted swiftly, grabbing her wrist and pulling her back. "I asked, where are you hurt?" His words were heavy with worry. He scanned her from head to toe, noting that there weren't any visible tears in her clothes. Not knowing where she might be injured, he held her wrist with care, firm but gentle, making sure she couldn't slip away.

He gestured to Dr. Nelson to check on Evelyn. Dr. Nelson was still a bit stunned by Evelyn's fierce demeanor. He finally snapped to attention and approached her. "Ms. Evelyn, if Rosa knew you were hurt, she'd be devastated," he said gently.

The mention of Rosa brought a flicker of change to Evelyn's expression. Her fierce gaze softened slightly as she responded to Dr. Nelson, "I'm not hurt, Dr. Nelson. You don't need to worry. The blood isn't mine, it's Dahlia's..."

Recalling Dahlia's malice, Evelyn's anger flared again, and her glare at Dahlia became even more intense.

"Charles... ah. it hurts," Dahlia

up, only to fall back, hitting her, injured forehead. Blood started trickling again, and she looked even paler than Evelyn.

Though Charles didn't release Evelyn right away, his grip loosened slightly as he was distracted. Evelyn seized the moment to break free and lunged at Dahlia. As she moved past the coffee table, she grabbed a fruit knife and aimed it straight at Dahlia's chest.

"Ah!" Dahlia screamed, eyes wide with terror as she begged Charles for help. "Charles, save me!"

"Evelyn!" Charles' face turned pale with shock. Evelyn really intended to harm Dahlia. He rushed over, trying to stop her. "Calm down!"

"Get out of my way!" Evelyn's knife sliced the air, and in that moment, Charles noticed the wound on her hand. It was hidden before, but now, as she gripped the knife, blood started seeping from it, drop by drop onto the floor.noveldrama

Seeing Evelyn seemingly indifferent

to the pain, Charles worried she might seriously hurt herself. He forgot about his own safety and let the knife cut his arm as he grabbed her wrist tightly, forcing the knife to drop. He pulled her close. "Evelyn, enough. It's just a minor issue, and you're going after Dahlia like this..."

Evelyn, who was struggling fiercely, suddenly stopped at his words. She turned to him, her eyes blazing

with accusation, pointing at Dahlia. "A minor issue? Dahlia caused the death of..."
