Inside the office, Emma was flaunting her newly acquired Hermès bag.
Evelyn sauntered over and gave it a quick look, “Impressive, the latest model, isn’t it?”
“It was a gift from a friend she met online in Pebblebrook. He’s pretty much her boyfriend now.”
“You know, they say 99% of online friendships back off when they meet in real life. But look at Emma,
she hit
it off right away. After a few dates, they’re even talking about getting married.”
“Why do I always meet the down and outs, while Emma snags the handsome and rich guys? Life is just
not
fair.”
The office was filled with gossip.
Aurelia had no time for such nonsense. She was discussing the marketing strategy for ‘Destiny‘ with
Mr.
Harry.
Emma sauntered over, deliberately picked up Aurelia’s bag that was resting on her desk, and gave it a
look,, “Bought it from eBay, didn’t you? I’d say it didn’t cost more than forty bucks. Aurelia, your fashion
sense has improved a bit recently, but why don’t you change your bag? You should at least try to
match!”
Aurelia grabbed her bag back. The clothes she was wearing, from the inside out, were all custom made
by Leopold, designed to perfectly conceal her baby bump.
But the bag was her own.
“For me, a good bag is one that’s durable and not ugly.”
When she was well–off, she never compared herself or showed off her wealth.
Lily chimed in, “Our Manager Aurelia is always frugal.”
Emma sneered, “Yeah right, such a stingy tightwad is rare in this world.”
“We’re part of Astral Enterprises, a big company. We should maintain some appearance. Otherwise,
outsiders might think the company doesn’t treat us well, considering how the manager can only afford a
cheap bag.”
“Not everyone values luxury items like you do. Our boss is a person of substance, she values inner
growth,” Darcy retorted.
Jenny and Gary agreed enthusiastically.
Aurelia picked up her cup from the desk and took a sip of water, “In Elysium, a house is the most
important thing. The company has some new employee apartments being built at the end of the year.
Darcy, Jenny, Lily, Gary, you all have been with the company for over three years and are eligible to
apply. I’ve submitted your applications.”
“Thanks, boss.” Lily and the others were instantly excited.
Aurelia looked at her and smiled, “If you and your boyfriend get married soon, you could get a two–
bedroom apartment. But if you apply as a single person, you can only get a one–bedroom.”
“You better hurry up and get married then,” Darcy chuckled.
Lily stuck out her tongue, “We haven’t even met each other’s parents yet. We’re planning to discuss
our marriage during Christmas break.”
“No worries. If you wait until the baby is born, you can upgrade to a three–bedroom,” Aurelia smiled.
Emma huffed, returning to her seat, “My boyfriend’s already planning to buy a house in Elysium. I don’t
need the company’s low–rent housing.”
She might not need it, but everyone else did. They all gathered around Evelyn’s desk, inquiring about
the application process. There were only limited apartments, and if they waited too long, they might
miss out. Evelyn hadn’t given it a thought. Being a rich heiress, she couldn’t understand the importance
of a house to the average worker.
When Leopold entered the apartment, Aurelia was in her room video chatting with her cousin, Jelena.
Jelena was the daughter of her aunt, a dance academy graduate, and a popular yoga influencer on
YouTube. with over two million followers.
Aurelia had been learning prenatal yoga from her.
“Why didn’t you call me and Avery when you came to Elysium last week? We could have picked you
up.”
“I wanted to settle down first before letting you guys know,” Jelena said.
“So, are you still streaming?”
“Of course,” Jelena laughed. “How’s your friend doing with the prenatal yoga I recommended? It’s my
private collection. Many celebrities have asked me to share it when they’re pregnant.”
“She’s doing well. She’s practicing right now,” Aurelia smiled. She didn’t dare tell her cousin that she
was the one who was pregnant.
Jelena took a bite of her apple, a mysterious gleam in her eyes, “Did you know that Ritchie Hawthorne
and his mother Perla also came to Elysium?”
