Chapter 519 Imminent Danger
Candice's words seemed to calm Michael down. He took a deep breath and finally managed to steady his emotions.
"Okay, but what did you guys talk about? Can you tell me?"
Michael had no choice but to latch onto this one clue and start piecing things together. The cause of Emily's premature labor was likely tied to what Candice mentioned about Evelyn.
But when Candice heard this, she glanced at Abigail, who was crying non-stop. Seeing that Abigail didn't respond, Candice was at a loss for how to answer Michael.
After all, the three of them suspected that the real culprit behind everything was closely connected to Michael!
Seeing Candice's hesitation, Michael grew even more suspicious.
He kept pressing for answers until someone showed up-Archibald.noveldrama
The moment Michael saw Archibald, his anger flared up even more. "Archibald? What are you doing here?"
Michael's voice was cold and menacing. Archibald couldn't help but take a deep breath.
But after thinking it over, Archibald felt justified in being there. Michael and Emily were already divorced. Even if he was a suitor, so what?
Michael was the one overstepping his bounds now.
"I came to check on Emily. I heard she had a premature birth," Archibald said with a worried expression. "What happened? Is she out of danger yet?"
Archibald's barrage of questions made Michael even angrier.
Candice, being sharp, could easily see through the tension between the two men.
She first glanced at Michael, then replied, "Don't worry, Emily will be fine. Although it's
a premature birth, I asked Abigail earlier, and all her previous check-ups were healthy. The baby will be born safely."
Michael turned his head to see Abigail nodding earnestly. She said, "Yes, that's right. The doctors praised Emily, saying she took great care of the baby..."
Halfway through her sentence, Abigail started crying again.
Michael, though still anxious, couldn't bear to press her further seeing her so upset.
Meanwhile, Candice thought for a moment and added to the two men present, "But the situation is a bit complicated right now. The most important thing is to ensure Emily's health."
This was a subtle reminder to Michael and Archibald: even if they wanted to compete, now was not the time. They needed to stay calm.
Both Michael and Archibald understood the warning.
The hallway fell silent, except for Abigail's occasional sobs.
The red light outside the operating room was glaringly bright, and it showed no sign
of turning off, no matter how much time passed.
Michael's heart grew heavier, as if weighed down by a massive stone.
He still couldn't figure out how Archibald had gotten the news.
Emily's premature labor was something he had kept tightly under wraps, even from Mason.
Abigail was too distraught to have let it slip, and Candice had just returned to Emerald City and knew only a few people. Her earlier advice clearly showed she didn't know Archibald was coming and didn't want any conflict in front of the operating room.

So, Archibald's source remained a mystery.
Just as Michael was about to question Archibald again, the operating room door slowly opened. But it wasn't a nurse coming out to report on the patient's condition; the nurse seemed to be in a hurry to find someone.
Michael couldn't accept any mishaps at this critical moment.
He rushed forward, grabbing the nurse's sleeve like a wild beast, and demanded, "What's going on? How is my wife?"
The nurse was startled by Michael's actions and quickly replied, "The surgery hasn't started yet!"
"Hasn't started?"
Everyone present was shocked. Even the usually composed Candice rushed forward and urgently asked the nurse, "What's going on? Didn't you say there was heavy bleeding and she was about to give birth? The patient has been in there for so long, why hasn't the surgery started? Can you take responsibility if something happens to the patient?"
The nurse took a deep breath. Facing these powerful and influential people, she dared not slack off and tried to explain calmly, "There's an issue with the doctor.
"The doctor who was supposed to help with the delivery is stuck in traffic and can't get here in time."
"Stuck in traffic?" Candice found it absurd.
Fortunately, she was the most rational and clear-headed person at the moment. She quickly asked the nurse, "In such a large hospital, isn't there another doctor who can step in? I saw a doctor go in earlier!"
Seeing Michael's terrifying expression, the nurse was almost scared out of her wits. She cautiously continued, "That doctor can only help with disinfection and cleaning. For the C-section, we need..."

The nurse hesitated, her eyes darting nervously.
She knew there was a problem with the delay of the main surgeon.
Perhaps it was a moment of clarity, or maybe he noticed the nurse's subtle movements, but Michael pressed on, "What's really going on?"
Michael's eyes were now frighteningly red. He leaned in and asked the nurse, "Why isn't there another doctor? Where's Daniel? He's an OB-GYN too. Where is he?"
The nurse bit her lip and finally revealed the truth, "Dr. Wilson is out of town on a business trip. Ms. Brown's delivery was handed over to Dr. Hall."
"Dr. Hall? Who's that?"
Candice knew nothing about the internal workings of Emerald City Harmony Hospital.
Seeing Michael so anxious, she knew she had to stay calm.
She was about to ask when a voice came from behind, "Is it Dr. Dexter Hall?"
Both Candice and Michael felt the question was both sudden and crucial.
The nurse, like grabbing a lifeline, broke free from Michael's grip.
"Yes! Dr. Dexter Hall! Let me go, I need to call him!"
With that, the nurse shook off Michael and ran off.
Michael, even more agitated, grabbed Archibald by the collar. Candice, seeing this,
didn't intervene but frowned and asked, "Who is Dexter Hall?"
What do you think?
