Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Cayden's sexy, wet lips slid down to Avery's collarbones.
Avery felt as though there was an explosion in her head.
Her hot tears suddenly began to run down her cheeks uncontrollably, as she was forced to relive a memory from five years ago.
Apart from his heavy breathing, she couldn't hear anything else.
She was reminded of what had happened after giving birth and the video call that she had had with Nina which caused her to accidentally catch sight of the news about the rich man on the television.
An exchange was an exchange, and no matter who the other man was, she didn't have the right to say no.
At that moment, as Cayden forcefully kissed her, she couldn't help but think about the old man who had done the exact same thing to her, and an overwhelming sense of disgust began to plague her.
Cayden could tell that she was distracted. He held her chin gently with one hand and looked at her fixedly with his passionate eyes. “What are you thinking about? Why are you crying?”
Avery, who was paralyzed with fear, returned his gaze.
As Cayden was too tall and Avery was only wearing indoor slippers, their height difference was very apparent. Avery looked like a red-eyed bunny who had been bullied by him.
“I'm thinking about how much of a lustful, sex-starved, and desperate beast you are underneath that polished exterior of yours.” Avery held the rest of her tears back in, unwilling to let anyone see her weak side.
However, she was already crying so hard that her emotions were no longer under her control.
Emotions never listen to anyone, and everyone goes through good, bad, and unspeakable experiences in their lifetime.
Avery, however, had already been through all of them.
Her worst, most unspeakable experience had to be that night five years ago. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Cayden's kiss had forced her to think about her worst memory again, and his voice had immediately shattered the last layer of her fragile shield.
It might have seemed like a thick, unbreakable shield, but it had been weak and fragile all along.
“Ms. Ery?” Zachary ended up barging into the kitchen anyway and looked at the two adults standing in their strange position.
Avery immediately turned away in embarrassment, not wanting Zachary to look at her.
Cayden didn't look at his son. His chiseled, exquisite features were contorted as he thought about what Avery had just said about him.
Lustful, sex-starved, and desperate. Since when did I become such a lowlife? There's nothing in this world that can overwhelm me and that includes women!
Cayden's phone was still ringing.
Avery was suddenly free from his grasp.
He picked up and answered with a tone as sullen as if the person on the other end owed him ten billion.
Since Avery was right next to him, she could vaguely hear the conversation.
“Mr. Moore, what are you up to?” the woman on the other end asked in a gentle voice that was laced with a hint of panic. “Did I interrupt your work? Your voice was pretty scary just now.”
Cayden's attitude was usually feared upon.
Zachary looked up at his father and heard him asking moodily, “What do you want?”
The other woman said, “Well, I'm sure you must have left in a rush that day that you forgot to inform me to follow you to Ackleton.” Of course, she knew that Cayden had never planned on telling her or bringing her along. She simply said that to save face.
Cayden remained silent. He was still thinking about the woman next to him.
The woman went on, “I'm going to head over there on Monday. I intended to start my own business after graduating and returning to the country. My parents are very supportive and I'm confident in my
skills. Also, as a successful senior in the field, I hope you can teach me a thing or two.”
Avery could tell who he was talking to by now.
She was none other than Jack's daughter, whom she had met in Hallsbay.
“We'll talk about that when you come over,” Cayden said before hanging up straight away.
Zachary was still in the kitchen, and his bright eyes immediately met his father's stern gaze. He couldn't help but tremble.
Rory, on the other hand, was still standing in front of the kitchen, not daring to enter.
Did Daddy make Ms. Ery cry? Bad Daddy!
Rory was thinking about what had happened between Avery and her father when she was picked up by his large hands, brought into his embrace, and carried to the door.
“Zach!” Rory called out, looking back.
Zachary looked at Avery, who was still looking down and not moving, and then he turned to his father, whose face was as dark as thunder. Cayden was already wearing his shoes at the door, and Zachary did not know what to do.
He could only follow his father and promise, “Ms. Ery, I'll come and see you next time.”
Cayden put on his leather shoes at the door and did not bother to help Rory put on hers. He opened
the door and stalked out.
Zachary quickly wear his shoes and followed behind them.
When the three of them got into the Land Rover parked at the gates of the residential area, Zachary looked forward and muttered, “Daddy, you went overboard today.”
Rory was curled up in her safety seat at the back, still pouting.
Cayden started the car with a gaze that could freeze over hell and drove off.
Zachary's and Cayden's expressions were somehow the same as they both stared off into the distance.
“Ery, my parents are planning on buying a house for you and Zayne already. Which area do you prefer? Don't hold back, okay? I'd recommend you choose somewhere in the city center so it's convenient for you to go to work.”
Nina had called almost immediately after Cayden left.
“A house?” Avery thought it was too fast.
They continued chatting about the same topic for a little bit, but Nina could tell that Avery wasn't in a good condition, so she asked her to get some rest.
Despite Nina's advice, Avery didn't go rest. She went to tidy up the cutlery on the table and do the dishes.
After cleaning up the table and the kitchen, Avery went on to clean the entire apartment.
It was then she noticed a pair of tiny shoes at the door.
They belong to Rory. Looks like she didn't get to put on her shoes before her father carried her away...
Avery sighed. She hadn't started working for very long and yet her relationship with her boss was already so tense.
She couldn't even pinpoint whose fault it was.
In fact, she felt that she might lose her job. She was even thinking about quitting on her own.
Exhaling deeply, she went to sweep the balcony, and only then did she notice the ashtray on the balcony.
It was one of the most common ashtrays that the landlord had provided.
Avery did not smoke, and she did not usually have anyone from the opposite gender over, which meant that the ashtray had never been used.
That day, the ashtray was filled with ashes and two cigarette butts that have been smoked not long ago.
She dumped the ashes into the trash can and wiped it with a wet cloth until not a single piece of dust could be seen. Right then, she looked up and spotted the black lace bra she had hung up to dry last night.
She liked it because it was extremely soft and was practically seamless under tighter work blouses.
There was also the matching pair of panties that was hanging up there as well.
No one had ever visited her apartment, let alone any men. That was why she had never really cared about where she hung her undergarments.
The apartment was so small that it couldn't really hold anyone who was too high-maintenance.
The bathroom was small and practically just a cube. It was damp and dark, so it was definitely not suitable for hanging laundry.
She put away the lingerie.
She didn't really care about the opposite gender seeing her undergarments since she wouldn't lose anything. But when she thought about the fact that he might have studied it closely, she felt mildly uncomfortable.
