Chapter 827
Chapter 827
Isaac could see the storm brewing in Brittany’s eyes. He stepped forward, attempting to soothe her.
“Don’t you dare touch me.”
With a forceful shove, Brittany pushed Isaac away, her eyes blazing with a fire that apologies could never quench. “An apology won’t fix this. Joie needs to pay, and if you can’t make that happen, I have no problem taking matters into my own hands!”
Struck silent, Isaac couldn’t find the words to respond.
Brittany lost all interest in continuing the conversation. “I’ve got to work late tonight. You should head home.”
With a pile of paperwork waiting on her desk, now that she was back on her feet, she was eager to dive back into the grind.
Isaac, concerned for her well-being, insisted gently, “Bri, you’re not fully recovered yet. Maybe you should rest a bit more?”
“Don’t. Touch. Me.”
Her voice was a cold rebuke. “Until this is over, there’s no need for us to see each other.”
She couldn’t let Joie off the hook.
Isaac had made his stance clear by siding with Joie, and that left nothing more to discuss between them.
Realizing Brittany wouldn’t be coming home with him anytime soon, Isaac relented.
“Alright, just make sure you get some rest. I’m here whenever you need me.” NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.
Nathan drove Isaac to the studio and didn’t leave right away. Instead, he lingered outside, hoping to catch a glimpse of Kari.
After waiting for over half an hour, Kari was nowhere to be seen. A quick question at the reception desk revealed she had clocked out hours ago.
Feeling somewhat let down, Nathan understood Isaac’s point; if he wanted a future with Kari, he owed her an account.
But the thought of sending his own father to jail, or worse, was unfathomable.
Sitting in his car for what felt like an eternity, Nathan was about to leave when he saw Isaac emerge from the building, alone.
Without thinking, Nathan swung his car door open.
“Mr. Salter, where’s Ms. Dustin?”
Isaac, surprised to find Nathan still waiting, cracked a half-smile. “Waiting for Kari?”
Nathan’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
“Once this lawsuit is over, get Joie a plane ticket out of the country,” Isaac said, his patience with Joie wearing thin.
“To which country?”
“Doesn’t matter. The farther, the better.”
Isaac was at his wits’ end with Joie, the last threads of tolerance frayed and snapping.
He opened his car door but paused, “Double-check everything for me. I need to know if she really is the person from back then.”
Nathan felt a sting of awkwardness, thinking Isaac doubted his abilities.
“Derek reminded me. She’s changed too much.”
The quirky, kind-hearted girl who had once shared his trials and tribulations was nowhere to be found in the Joie of today.
Realization dawned on Nathan that he had misunderstood Isaac. “Understood.”
Back at home, Isaac received a call from Jolin.
“Mr. Salter, I’ve reviewed the case. Based on the current evidence, there’s a 70% chance
Ms. Joie will walk away scot-free.”
“Do as you see fit,” Isaac responded.
Upon discovering Isaac’s actions, Grace was baffled and confronted him that very night. “What are you doing? After all the suffering Bri’s been through, how can you help her assailant?”
How could he, as Brittany’s husband, assist the very person who had nearly disfigured her?
“Grandma, please stay out of this.”
Grace frowned, “Tell me the truth, Isaac. Are you and Bri having problems?”
“Grandma, once this case is settled, I plan to send Joie abroad.”
Feeling he owed Grace an explanation, Isaac spoke, “She’s been targeting Bri relentlessly. If not for the fact that she once took a bullet for you and stood by me through thick and thin, I wouldn’t let her off so easily.”
Grace also noticed the change in Joie over the years. “I’ve realized she’s not the girl l remembered.”
How could the same young woman who had risked her life for Grace be capable of such malicious deeds now!
“Grandma, please keep this between us. Once the legal battle is over, I’ll send her away immediately
Grace pondered for a moment before agreeing
After Grace left, and washed up and headed to bed, but sleep eluded him, as countless thoughts raced through his mind.
