Chapter 819
Chapter 819
Grace’s voice carried an unmistakable chill.
A knot tightened in Brittany’s chest.
“Yes.”
A prolonged silence followed on the other end of the line, and Brittany even started to wonder if Grace had fainted.
Just as Brittany’s patience was wearing thin, Grace finally spoke. “She started it. She needs to learn her lesson.”
Grace never would have guessed that Joie, so obedient and sweet in her presence, could be up to such mischief behind her back and even get caught red-handed.
She had brought it upon herself.
After hanging up the call with Grace, Brittany knew Grace wouldn’t interfere further. A glint of cold determination flashed in her eyes.
Five years ago, she had nearly perished at Leda’s hands, with Joie stirring the pot. It was time to settle the score.
Joie spent a night in the police station, her initial arrogance slowly crumbling as she face reality.
Her agent, her company- none were willing to take her calls, let alone bail her out.
She didn’t need to think hard to know how the online storm would ferment against her. Skilled at swaying public opinion, she knew too well the damage it could inflict when turned on her.
For over twenty-four hours, Joie refused even a drop of water.
A police officer brought in a bottle of water and a sandwich, “You should eat.” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“Release me.”
Joie was not prepared to sit and wait for doom.
The officer chuckled, “Ms. Joie, your lawyer hasn’t shown up yet. No one’s processed y paperwork. You’re not going anywhere.”
Joie clenched her fists, toppling the sandwich. “Get out!”
What’s so funny? Enjoying her downfall as if it were some sort of joke?
After the officer left, Joie felt a darkness descend before her eyes.
It felt like an eternity before the heavy door swung open.
“Someone’s posted your bail. You’re free to go.
Overjoyed, Joie thought Grace had come through for her. She sprang to her feet and walked out, only to see Leda.
“Why are you here?”
Why wasn’t it Grace?
Leda couldn’t help but laugh at her disappointment. “Did you really expect Grace to come to your rescue?”
Such naivety! Did she really think she was the Salter family’s darling?
After exiting the police station, Joie felt dejected as she followed Leda into the car. Once inside, Leda wrinkled her nose at the smell of sweat emanating from Joie. “You’ve been ir there this long without freshening up?”
Flushed with shame, Joie retorted, “Where in the police station is there a place to fresher up?”
Leda covered her nose, “You’re finished this time.’
Joie’s headache intensified. “Are you just here to gloat?”
Of course, she knew her career was over.
There was no going back to the world of entertainment.
As Leda eyed Joie’s frustrated expression, an idea sparked. “This mess was most likely Brittany’s doing. Are you not planning to do something about it?”
Joie’s fists clenched. How could she not want revenge?
“I hear Isaac’s been out of town,” Leda whispered conspiratorially. “Now’s your best chance.”
Joie’s eyes narrowed, a vicious gleam flickering within. “I have my own ways.”
As the public uproar reached a peak, Joie was quietly blacklisted.
Brittany was more than pleased.
News from the station came in- Joie had been bailed out.
Upon checking, Brittany found that Leda had handled the paperwork.
Joie’s scandal had blown up too big; she couldn’t stay with the company any longer resigned the next day.
Grace avoided her like the plague.
After several failed attempts, Joie gave up, resigned to her fate.
It was as if Joie had vanished into thin air.
Brittany enjoyed the quiet, and before she knew it, the day of Isaac’s return to Imperial City had arrived.
