Chapter 17
In her seat, Charlie felt everyone's eyes on her. While most of those in the College of Business probably already knew about her breakup with Luke, the whole university now knows how she had been dumped and replaced!
"It's not so bad," Dawn whispered to her. "Everyone could easily tell he cheated on you."
"Yeah, that's right," Frank said softly. "It's a no-brainer."
"Now Luke realizes that the Dean favors you. I saw that look of regret on his face when the Dean refused Regina on stage," Mia said, whispering closer to Charlie.
Regina was indeed furious. In a way, she was humiliated, but no one could blame the Dean either. In the past, the Dean had always admired her and Luke together. The Dean's intentions were purely out of pride, but unfortunately, the news of their breakup had not reached her.
As Charlie sat there, she noticed an intense stare directed at her. She turned to her right, and she locked eyes with Taylor West.
He smirked, and Charlie's heart raced, seeing that expression in Taylor.
'Oh, shit!' she bit her lip, realizing that Taylor now knows about her past with Luke. 'Did he remember?'
"Charlie, do you want to hang out after class? We could go to the boulevard if you like?" Mia offered, distracting Charlie from Taylor's gaze. "I just have a six pm class today, but after that, I am free."
Charlie was about to answer when suddenly, Ashley called from the front rows. "Charlie, Luke, and the team are having a practice match with the A&S Raptors. You have always supported the team. Surely, your breakup with Luke doesn't change anything. I'd love to catch up with you."
"So, Charlie's world should still revolve around Luke even after he cheated on her?" Mia reacted.
This time, Luke and Regina turned to them. Luke frowned and said, "Everyone in this column belongs to the College of Business. We are all in one team. You, Mia, and Charlie should show your support. If the Dean hears about it, she would be pleased." He turned to Charlie and asked, "Isn't that right, Charlie?"
Charlie could not believe her ears. She was momentarily rendered speechless by Luke's shamelessness. She rolled her eyes and said, "No, I won't go. Regardless of my major, I am no longer a Wall Street Warrior fan. Besides, you already have Regina. She is enough lucky charm for you and the entire team."
"Ignore her, Luke. She's just bitter that you dumped her." Regina glared at Charlie and added, "We don't need her or her irrelevant friends."noveldrama
Other students who were fans of the Wall Street Warriors were shocked at Charlie's response. It was like she had sinned! Thankfully, her new friends had her back.
"I'm not supporting Wall Street Warriors either. I had never attended those games," Mia announced.
"I support Charlie," Dawn said.
"Me too," Frank added.
"Among the fifth-year students, the top student in Civil Engineering is Taylor West!" The announcement abruptly interrupted Charlie's conversation with her friends. She, for one, was stunned. She turned to Taylor, stupefied.
'Taylor is a top student?' She asked herself, her eyes rounding in shock.
It wasn't only Charlie. Many of those from the College of Business were astounded. Everyone in their college had always thought of Taylor as the enemy, a smug, a troublemaker, and a player. Who would have known he was smart?
As Taylor walked to the stage, he glanced in Charlie's way. He must have seen how her jaws were wide open that he mouthed at her, 'Pick up your jaw, Blondie.' Charlie immediately shut her mouth. She clenched her fists and looked away, just in time for Dawn to notice. Dawn asked, "Was Taylor West looking at you?"
"Um. No," Charlie denied it. "Must have been someone else."
Taylor eventually got his certificate and made his way back. He purposely walked closer to Luke and said, "Hey, Sullivan, didn't your friend say you were a complete package, a top student and the captain of the basketball team? How come you weren't called to the stage?"
"Taylor, he is still probably a top student," Taylor's friend teased.
Taylor laughed. With a sly grin, he remarked, "Yeah, probably in the top five hundred."
Dawn and Mia let out an audible laugh. Charlie could not also help but chuckle. Truth be told, if Luke had studied hard during the preliminary exams, he would have been in second place or third, but Charlie had discovered he had instead gone out on dates with Regina.
The assembly finally ended. Charlie wanted to leave last, hoping to avoid Luke and perhaps Taylor too, but as she lingered with Dawn, Mia, and Frank, she noticed that her roommate was not leaving!
To Charlie's right, Taylor was with two of his friends. His companions impatiently waited for him. He had his eyes on her, like an eagle to its prey. Charlie immediately knew Taylor was up to no good, and with that in mind, she panicked.
What do you think?
