Tangled Temptations

Chapter 46

Max asked, "So you're just gonna abandon Angus and Michelle like that? Stand by and watch them get locked up?"

Eloise didn't bother to explain. "I won't be coming to your villa anymore. I'll send the keys back to you." She said.

Max was taken aback. What made Eloise change her mind so suddenly? He wanted to ask, but she had already hung up.

Max dialed his secretary with a grim face, "Check on Angus' recent situation."

The secretary got right on that, and five minutes later, came back with a shaky voice, "Mr. Velona, Angus has changed his lawyer! I'll keep digging."

"No need!" Max hung up.

He decided to go to the detention center himself. He was curious to see who had the guts to take on the case without his orders, and what they could possibly change.noveldrama

Max opened his car door and drove off to the detention center. His wound on his waist was still fresh, the gauze already stained red, but he didn't care.

Twenty minutes later, Max's car stopped inside the detention center. As soon as he got out, he saw Harvey being escorted out by a group of people.

Harvey was wearing a pricey suit, looking rather imposing. At the moment, he was coming down the stairs, chatting cordially with a few top leaders.

Denise was also there, laughing and saying, "We'll leave it at that! We really appreciate your help this time."

They all responded kindly. After all, Harvey was a member of the Horigan family!

Harvey bid farewell to each one of them. After he left, they looked at each other and laughed. One of them said, "Harvey is the devil in the legal field. I've never seen him up close before. He's so good-looking it makes one jealous!"

Everyone else felt the same way.

Harvey was handsome, wealthy, and successful. Who wouldn't be envious?

...

Max watched all this, clenching his fists.

So, Harvey was the one who took the case! He had purposely chosen a time when Harvey was not in Peterborough to act, but didn't expect him to return early. Harvey was not truly interested in Eloise. He was just a passing fancy at best!

Max was not willing to accept this. He watched as the superior man approached him.

Unexpectedly, Harvey acted as if nothing had happened, patting Max on the shoulder and casually saying, "Orlena told me you were injured, I was planning to visit you! Seems like you're okay and I'm relieved. Oh, don't forget to come over for lunch later."

Max nodded without expression.

Harvey smiled. He lit a cigarette, took a few puffs, and walked towards his car.

When the two men passed by each other, Max felt a strong pressure, which came from Harvey. He didn't ask Eloise any questions because there was no need to. Eloise was with Harvey now.

When Harvey's car drove off, Max mechanically took out his phone and dialed Eloise's number again. His voice was filled with anger and frustration, "Eloise, well done!"

On the other end, Eloise answered calmly, "Max, you know how you treat me and I decided to treat you the same. Any problem?"

"No problem! Not at all!" Max sneered, "Just don't regret it."

Eloise hung up right away. Her phone rang again twice and she saw a message from Harvey: [Your father has been transferred to Mercy Hospital. You can take your step-mom to visit him and he can return home when he's recovered.]

Eloise read the message over and over again, until her vision was blurred by tears. It was not until this moment that she truly felt that everything in her life had become vibrant again. She was no longer living a zombie-like existence as before.
