Chapter 969
Chapter 969 It Must Be Torturous
Simon reached out and gently ruffled her hair, his eyes filled with resolute determination. “All right, I will
bring your mommy back safe and sound.”
After speaking, he leaned down to guide his daughter toward Bailey. “While Daddy and Mommy are
away, you must be good and listen to your uncles.”
“I will.”
Taking a deep breath, Simon exchanged a glance with Bailey and then exited the study.
Bailey crouched down, using her fingertips to wipe away the tears on the little girl's face. She smiled
warmly and said, “Your daddy is the most exceptional descendant of the Luther family, and your mom is
the most outstanding legitimate daughter of the Rogers family. Be strong, keep fighting against the
illness, and await the day when they return.”
“Aunt Bailey, my mommy and daddy will come back safely, right?”
Raising an eyebrow, Bailey responded with a question rather than a direct answer, “Luna, while you
were in Gregan, did you hear anything about what I've been up to this past year?”
The young girl quickly nodded, her eyes filled with admiration. “I know, of course, I know. In my eyes,
you're even more formidable than my mom, more formidable than anyone else.”
Bailey gently rubbed the girl's cheeks, smiling as she continued, “Well, that settles it then. Let me share
a secret with you. I'm even more formidable than I appear to be. The outside world only knows a part of
my identity, and there are some things they are unaware of. Therefore, you should trust me. Since I've
already arrived in Gregan, you can put your mind at ease. I can assure you, your mom and dad will be
just fine.”
The little girl's restless mood gradually subsided, and she obediently nestled in Bailey's arms, rubbing
her small face against hers.
In a place hidden from Luna's view, a trace of worry flickered in Bailey's eyes.
Could she truly guarantee the safety of Catherine and Simon?
No, she couldn't make such a guarantee.
After all, it would be difficult to guard against hidden threats.
If the Rogers family dared to confront her openly, she could assure them that they wouldn't have an
easy time. But if they resorted to clandestine tactics, she might find it challenging to handle.
Broderick was not to be underestimated. He had been deeply involved in the power struggles within the
Rogers family for many years. Now, he had once again seized the initiative, consolidating his control
over all of Joseph's power. Trusting solely in Catherine's abilities would be a risky proposition.
Furthermore, Bailey harbored a nagging concern. She couldn't shake the feeling that Joseph didn't
genuinely intend to relinquish his position to Catherine.
If that were the case, there was a high likelihood he might betray her when she was engaged in a
mutually destructive battle with Broderick.
Being abandoned by one's own biological father could be a devastating blow.
However, for now, Bailey couldn't afford to dwell on these worries. She could only hope that everything
would proceed smoothly.
In the countryside castle, within the conference room, Kurt was discussing matters concerning the
White family with a few of his subordinates.
“Mr. Kurt, the atmosphere in the family has been a bit odd these past few days. That venomous woman
has suddenly fallen seriously ill and has shut herself away, refusing to see anyone. Now that her
younger brother has taken over, I can't help but feel that there seem to be some changes in the family.”
“Exactly, I've had the same feeling, Mr. Kurt. Could there be something wrong internally?”
“Mr. Kurt, the time is ripe now; I believe we can strike back.”
“I agree. While that woman is seriously ill, she has handed over her power to her younger brother. We
can totally seize this opportunity to replace them.”
“Yes, let's strike back.”
Kurt casually waved his hand and spoke in a composed manner, “The timing isn't right just yet. Let's
exercise patience for a little while longer. If we act prematurely, we'll be forced to rely solely on our own
influence. After all, Broderick hasn't yet fully assumed control of the second branch of the Rogers
family. If we engage in direct conflict with that cunning woman using our own resources, we risk
substantial damage and weakening. When the moment comes, and Broderick, that wily old fox,
retaliates, we might find ourselves swiftly eliminated. The risks involved are simply too great.”
He concluded, “So, I prefer to wait a few more days until that old man has completely consolidated his
power within the Rogers family. Then, I'll enlist his assistance in dealing with that woman. This way, we
won't have to worry about him reaping the rewards without contributing or launching unexpected
betrayals.”
The room fell silent for a moment.
Suddenly, the elderly man standing beside Kurt nodded in agreement, remarking, “Your concerns are
indeed valid, Mr. Kurt. We mustn't solely fixate on immediate gains. Engaging in a destructive
confrontation with that cunning woman could create a vulnerability that Broderick might exploit. Even if
we manage to defeat her eventually, we could still fall victim to Broderick's schemes. It's a path that
could ultimately benefit others.”
Kurt casually waved his hand again, saying, “The matter is settled; there's no need for further
discussion on this topic. Let's shift our focus to other matters.”
Simultaneously, within the main house, Eunice attempted to enter the living room but encountered
resistance from two black-clad bodyguards.
“Ms. Rogers, no one is permitted to enter without Mr. White's authorization.”
“Not even me? Widen your eyes and consider carefully. I am currently an esteemed guest of the
family's head.”
The bodyguards remained steadfast, reiterating their previous statement. Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Eunice couldn't help but exhale in exasperation, slowly clenching her fists by her side. “You've left me
with no other choice.”
Muttering an incantation, she swiftly raised her hand, releasing a pleasant fragrance into the air.
Moments later, the two bodyguards succumbed to unconsciousness, their vacant stares directed
ahead.
Eunice sneered with a frigid expression. Catherine's bullying doesn't bother me, as her abilities far
exceed mine. But who are these two imbeciles to obstruct my path? How absurd!
Unimpeded, she confidently entered the living room.
While heading to the second floor, several individuals attempted to halt her progress one by one, yet
she swiftly incapacitated them all.
As she proceeded to the master bedroom, her fists clenched even tighter.
Enduring insults from the detestable Catherine had been one matter, but now that Eunice was
associated with Kurt, Eunice hadn't anticipated continued mistreatment.
His first crush, huh? Ha! I won't let anything that threatens my status slip by.
Even though I don't love Kurt, the position of the White family's matriarch is mine and mine alone.
Keeping his first crush around is merely keeping me further away from my goal. I will never let anything
that I can get rid of survive the night.
Crack!
The door swung open, and she entered confidently. Upon spotting the restrained woman on the bed, a
wicked smile involuntarily graced Eunice's lips.
She had initially been somewhat apprehensive, fearing that the notorious Poison Lady, renowned for
her poison-crafting skills, might employ her toxins against her.
In hindsight, Eunice realized she had been worrying needlessly.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, isn't this the internationally infamous Blaze? Once so high and mighty, now reduced to
being a man's pawn. It's truly pitiable and lamentable, and also rather pathetic. If I were you, treated
like a dog on a leash, I'd probably consider running headfirst into a wall.”
Blaze slowly opened her eyes, casting a cold, disdainful gaze at Eunice. She retorted, “If you were tied
up like this, do you genuinely believe you can ram yourself into a wall?”
“You!” Eunice clenched her teeth, sneering icily, “Still holding out hope for your lover to come and
rescue you? I'd advise against such naivety. The Yablon family has already announced Cameron's
imminent marriage to Ms. Zander. Their wedding is just around the corner.”
Blaze's pupils constricted slightly, a hint of muted sorrow flickering deep within her eyes.
So, everything he said on the phone that night was a lie.
Eunice continued to sneer, “Does it hurt? Would you like me to end your suffering?”
With that, she retrieved a packet of lethal sedative fragrance from her pocket.
