Chapter 92 When Will You See Me?
“Amanda, I’ll drive you home.”
“No need, I’ll take Joleen’s car.”
After dinner, Patrick Dolley offered to drive Amanda Jewell home. Amanda turned him down without hesitation.
Joleen was normally a smart person, but now she acted as if she was an idiot. “Isn’t it more convenient for Patrick to give you a ride? My house is in a different direction from yours.”
Amanda rolled her eyes at her grumpily and suppressed her anger. “It’s not far. I happened to have something to tell you on the way.”
With that, Amanda turned to Patrick and said, “Patrick, we’ll be going now.”
Patrick nodded. “Okay, take care. Let me know when you get home.”
Amanda pulled Joleen away. Before leaving, Joleen turned around and gave Patrick a meaningful look.
The bustling city under the night sky was intoxicating.
Amanda sat in the passenger seat and glared at Joleen. “You have nothing to do? What’s wrong with letting Patrick take me home?”
“Isn’t it just to take you back? It’s not like he hasn’t taken you back before anyways.”
“The past is the past, and the present is the present. Joleen, let me tell you, if you continue to make things so awkward, there will come a day when you regret it.”
Joleen laughed. “Why would I make things awkward?”
“You know what I am talking about.” Amanda didn’t want to make it too clear. She knew that Joleen had always been hesitant when it came to relationships. It wouldn’t be good if she pointed it out herself.
The atmosphere in the car was somewhat stagnant, but in the end, Joleen’s attitude eased up. “I just don’t want the three of us to be strangers. Everyone was busy before and couldn’t get together. I really want to go back to college.”
Hearing that, Amanda sighed with complicated emotion as well. “That’s right. How nice it was back then.”
Unfortunately, no one could return to that time. Everyone had to look forward and walk forward with their heads held high.
“Joleen, I can agree to Patrick being the legal consultant because of you. However, remember, it is only for your sake.”
Joleen was stunned for a moment, then nodded after a long while, “Thank you.”
“My place is here. Take care on your way back.”
“Yup.”
Amanda got out of the car and waved at Joleen from the roadside.
Joleen smiled at her through the windshield, then turned the car around and drove away. As she drove out of the complex, she made a phone call, and a familiar male voice came from the wireless earphones.
“Hello!”
“I just sent Amanda home. Where are you?”
“On my way back. Be careful on your way back.”
“I’ve done you such a big favor, but you don’t even thank me?”
“Thanks.”
“Patrick,” Joleen pursed her lips and put on a wronged expression, “so what if you became Safe Home’s legal consultant? Can’t you tell that Amanda doesn’t like you?”
“It’s good to stay with her. She will see me one day.”
“What about me? When can you see me?”
The other end of the line fell silent.
After staying silent for an unknown amount of time, Joleen let out a self-mocking laugh. “Forget it, if forcing you was useful, then I wouldn’t have fallen into such an awkward situation.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You don’t have to tell me. It’s a voluntary thing. But today is the last time. Don’t ask me for such favor in the future. I don’t want to make things difficult for Amanda.”
“Got it.”
“Yup, I’m hanging up.”
The moment she hung up, Joleen slowly leaned on the steering wheel.
In her memory, this was the first time she had spoken to Patrick in such a cold and harsh tone. He had actually come to her just because Amanda had avoided her and asked Joleen to help him see Amanda. When had he ever considered her feelings or felt sorry for her?
It was late at night.
After Amanda washed up, she dried her wet hair with a towel and took out an apple from the fridge. She chewed while she looked at the company documents on her computer.
Her phone rang with a WhatsApp notification. A message from Joleen popped up.
“I’m home.”
Amanda closed her laptop and replied, “Good night. Wash up and go to bed early.”
“Amanda, good night.”
Amanda smiled.
The following evening, at the Byran Group’s banquet.
The Byran Group had always been generous. This time, they had booked the top floor of the most luxurious platinum hotel in Ducco.NôvelDrama.Org © content.
In the banquet venue, exquisite tableware was sparkling with golden light, and all kinds of snacks and drinks were provided endlessly. Even the waiters were very handsome and pleasing to the eye.
“Mr. Byran is here.”
Everyone’s eyes fell on the entrance of the banquet hall.
Iverson was dressed in a black suit. Other than a gray bow tie, there were no other decorations on his body. A valuable watch was slightly revealed at the cuff of his sleeve, which made him look noble.
His date was wrapped around his arm. She wore a red dress, gorgeous and ostentatious, just like her name suggested.
“Isn’t that the eldest daughter of the Ginos Group, Lydia Ginos?”
“That’s right. Why is she Mr. Byran’s date? Isn’t he dating Amanda Jewell?”
“Your news were already outdated.”
“It hasn’t been that long, has it? Is Amanda Jewell in the past already? Mr. Byran had announced in front of so many people that he was pursuing her. Could it be that he didn’t get her?”
“Do you think there are many women in the world who can resist Mr. Byran? It’s obvious that he got her. Once he’s tired of her, he’ll have to find a suitable partner for him eventually.”
“You’re right.”
“Hey, look, isn’t that Amanda Jewell?”
Someone exclaimed, attracting the attention of people who were discussing.
Close behind Iverson and Lydia was Amanda Jewell.
The woman’s long hair casually fell over her shoulders, and her bright facial features and her smile made people’s hearts beat faster.
She wore a grey gauzy cotton dress with a high forked design, combining conservative and unrestrained elements perfectly. Her slender and long legs were faintly visible when she moved, attracting the attention of all the men present.
Lydia Ginos’s flamboyant red dress had already become the center of attention, but who would have thought that Amanda’s mature woman’s aura would be displayed to the extreme? In front of such high-end sexiness, playfulness was nothing.
Iverson’s gaze locked onto hers as well.
Seeing this scene, Lydia subconsciously clenched her fists and blurted out, “You’re really here!”
Amanda looked at them with a straight face. “Of course I have to come after receiving the invitation. I have to thank Mr. Byran for sending an invitation to our Safe Home Real Estate as well.”
Iverson said calmly, “Linda is in charge of the invitation list. I’m not sure.”
When Lydia heard these words, she was extremely pleased with herself. She immediately mocked Amanda and said, “That’s right. Iverson is usually so busy. How could he even know who he invited? Some people shouldn’t think too highly of themselves.”
After saying that, she deliberately held Iverson’s arm again.
Amanda’s gaze tightened.
