Chapter 1708
Skylar felt a dull headache creeping in.noveldrama
"Do we need to look into this?" Joe asked, already reaching for his phone to call Paul.
She shook her head. "Not yet. Let's wait and see. I can't imagine Harvey hasn't noticed anything by now."
From what she knew of Harvey, he was someone who valued relationships but wasn't the type to lose himself in them.
"I agree," Joe said, understanding Harvey's character well.
After that, the conversation shifted to Vivian and what she had been up to lately.
Just then, a soft, sleepy voice came from their bedroom door. "Mom, Dad, I want to sleep with you."
Vivian stood there rubbing her eyes, her tone warm and sweet. She had fallen asleep earlier but had woken up for some reason.
An overwhelming sense of longing for her parents filled her heart when she woke up. She wanted them to hold her. Their embrace was the warmest place to be.
"Of course, I want to sleep with you too," Skylar said, quickly picking her up and hugging her close.
Joe walked over and wrapped his arms around both of them, holding the two most important people in his life tightly.
Meanwhile, Alina sat uneasily after sending her text message. She had been waiting for a reply from Skylar for over 20 minutes, but there was still no response.
Leaving the bathroom, she glanced at Harvey, who was sound asleep in bed. She then grabbed her shawl and walked to the living room.
Sitting on the couch, she stared out at the quiet city nightscape. The world outside seemed at peace, yet her heart was anything but peaceful.
Unable to stay calm, she exited Skylar's chat thread and opened another conversation—the one with Theodore. His messages dominated the screen.
"Darling, trust me! I've always loved you. It's just that we were apart for so long. Over the past few years, had to adjust to a life without you, so I agreed to my family's arrangement and went on blind dates."
"I've never loved her. I just did it to reassure my family. After reuniting with you and clearing up the misunderstandings, I momentarily forgot about her. We've met each other's parents, so if I suddenly break up with her, they might not accept it right away. Please give me some time."
"Darling, I love you! I can't lose you. This is my fault for not being clear with you from the beginning."
"I know you have a new boyfriend now. I saw your Instagram. I believe you don't love him, so please forgive me and break up with him. Come back to me."
"Darling, don't ignore me. You know how much I care about you."
The last two messages were sent at noon today.
She had seen them right away but hadn't replied. At that time, she was having lunch with Harvey and a few friends. Afterward, they played a murder mystery game.
She had been a bit distracted during it.
A few days ago, she had agreed to reconcile with Theodore, only to find out he had a girlfriend, and they were already discussing marriage.
Her best friend had sent her some photos of Theodore and his fiancée. They looked very intimate, clearly in love with each other.
From what she knew of Theodore, he wouldn't be so close with someone unless he truly cared about them.
The most troubling part was that they were planning a wedding-one that was happening soon. There was no way she would step into that situation as the third party
Besides...
She glanced toward her bedroom, feeling the weight of the decision pressing on her.
She knew better than anyone that if she broke up with Harvey, he would never come back to her. Their relationship would be completely over.
She...
