She thought back to the woman who had answered Aiken's phone that day. It must have been the celebrity Simona mentioned. Wendy had been upset then, clearly preoccupied. It seemed she had already pieced things together and made her decision. "Aiken? He doesn't seem to care about much," Simona said bitterly. "Men are all the same. Once the novelty wears off, they lose interest. The feelings fade."

Her voice cracked with frustration. "I just feel sorry for Wendy. With her looks and abilities, she could have had anyone. If only she hadn't wasted her time on him."
