Chapter 1662
Zera felt uneasy as she asked, "Was it something important?"
Seeing Aiken's suddenly cold expression, she regretted her earlier actions. She should have been less eager when answering the phone.
She should have waited to confirm who was calling before deciding whether or not to answer. Now, she feared that Aiken might think she was being inconsiderate. "It's nothing," Aiken replied coldly.
Then he fell silent. When he didn't speak and wore a serious expression, it was impossible not to feel intimidated.
No one would have dared to make a sound in that circumstance.
Zera bit her lower lip. Although she was full of questions, she didn't dare to ask. She knew very well that this wasn't the time to talk.
Soon, they arrived at her apartment complex. After parking, she glanced at Aiken, who was resting with his eyes closed. "I'm home now. Be sure to get plenty of rest tonight. Take care of yourself, okay?"
She waited for his response. Fortunately, Aiken gave a faint hum in reply.
She felt relieved and got out of the car.
...
A few minutes later, Aiken opened his eyes and said to Wilbur, "Go to Wendy's house."
Wilbur immediately acknowledged him with a nod.noveldrama
Although he had a million questions, he dared not ask a single one. He simply thought this was just how all men were. If he were in Aiken's position, he probably wouldn't even know how many women he would have secretly kept around. Over the years, he had been with Wendy most of the time, and only recently had he been involved with a young celebrity. He had been quite restrained in comparison.
Now it seemed that, although Zera was pretty and young, she wasn't as skilled at handling him as Wendy was. Otherwise, Wendy wouldn't have been able to stay by his side for so many years.
Back when there was no Wendy, Aiken was always switching between women.
The evening traffic was smooth, with very few cars. It didn't take long before they arrived at Wendy's place.
Aiken often stayed over at Wendy's place, so he had his fingerprint registered in her electronic lock. He pressed his finger to the sensor and walked right in.
The lights in the room were all on, but Wendy wasn't in the living room. As Aiken made his way toward the bedroom, he heard sounds coming from the bathroom. It seemed she had just returned home and was taking a shower.
The sound of the water was so loud that it drowned out the sound of him unlocking the door.
He walked back to the living room and sat down on the couch, taking out a cigarette and lighting it. He slowly took a drag.
Wendy took her time in the
bathroom, staying in there for at
least half an hour. Soon, Aiken heard the sound of a hairdryer. As he. listened to the hum of the dryer, he
realized it had been a while since he
last visited.
It seemed like Wendy had redecorated. There were fewer things around, and even the potted plant they had bought together from a flower shop appeared to have been discarded. Aiken's thoughts wandered, his mind feeling distant.
Once Wendy finished drying her hair,
she stepped out of the bathroom.
She had intended to turn off the
lights in the living room, but as she reached for the switch, she was surprised to see Aiken sitting on the couch.
She pulled her hand back from the switch and asked in a neutral tone, "You... Why are you here?"
Perhaps it was because they hadn't seen each other in a while, or because he had a new love interest, and she had recently met his new partner. She could no longer act the way she once had around him. Hearing how indifferent Wendy sounded, Aiken furrowed his brows. "I haven't seen you for some time, so I thought I'd come by and check on you."
Wendy's voice remained indifferent. "I've been busy with work lately, and I know you've been busy too."
What do you think?
