Chapter 171 Delivering on the Promise
I turned around and saw Jack and Elsa standing at the door as expected. They hadn't even taken off their coats, yet he couldn't resist getting a shot in.
Dad immediately frowned when he heard what Jack said. He snarled, "Do you have any idea what you're doing, Jack?"
Jack scoffed. He took off his coat and walked over, with Elsa following him quietly.noveldrama
"I know what I'm doing. Does she, though?" Jack pointed at me with a disdainful expression on his face. "She just got divorced, yet she wasted no time in finding her next husband. Is she that eager for a man? If you ask me, she doesn't dare to have a wedding ceremony because she doesn't want anyone to find out that she's promiscuous!"
Dad was infuriated. He took a step forward and intended to hit Jack, but I reached out and stopped him. I wasn't concerned about Jack, though. It was just that Eric was discharged today, so I didn't want things to get too ugly.
To my surprise, Jack immediately snorted coldly when he saw me stopping Dad. "Drop the act. You don't even care about the family's reputation, so stop making it look like you're the good guy here."
I rolled my eyes and retorted, "You keep talking about the Brown family's reputation, yet you failed to take care of it. If you cared about it, you'd stop butting your head in where it doesn't belong.
"I have the freedom to marry whoever I want, and I can handle the repercussions myself if something goes wrong and affects the Brown family. Unlike someone, who always waits for someone else to clean up her mess."
Jack immediately stood in front of Elsa and shielded her. "Leave her out of this. She's just a kid!"
I laughed and applauded. "Check her social security card if you don't know how old she is. Are you seriously still treating her like she's a kid? The way I see it, both of you are very immature. Forget about the real world, you two should just go back to kindergarten and stay where you belong."
Eric also seized the moment and
chimed in, "How is marrying into the Flint family something humiliating? You're in charge of a number of projects in collaboration with Flint Group As far as I know, Brown Group wasn't as huge as it is now. Jane marrying me should be something worth being happy about, don't you think?"
Jack heard what Eric said, and his face immediately turned red with rage, but he didn't make a peep.
I sneered immediately, "You really do react differently when different people talk to you."
Then, I turned my gaze to Dad and asked, "Can you tell which of the two previous projects is making money now?"
Dad nodded when he heard what I asked. He rolled his eyes at Jack before he gave me a look of approval.
He said proudly, "You were right, Jae. The government has acquired the project you said would thrive. still ongoing right now, but a preliminary assessment has determined that it would rake in a biffion dollars, at least!
Dad cleared his throat before he continued, "As for Jack's project, things aren't exactly optimistic for it. The government took that plot of land off of its expropriation plan. arranged for a civil engineering expert to examine the place, and he found out that the soil is too loose for construction. It's not fit to build
an amusement park, much less residential houses."
Jack's face grew paler over time. I even saw a hint of embarrassment in his expression. I giggled and urged Dad, "So, how much did you lose?"
Dad sighed wearily and said, "Three hundred million dollars. If it weren't for your project, our company's net profit this year would've taken a huge hit."
My lips curled into a grin, and I cast a glance at Jack. He probably sensed that I was about to say something, and his lips parted. However, he couldn't find anything to say.
Smiling, I said as he watched me, "Don't you think it's time to deliver on your promise, Jack?"
What do you think?
