Revenge is Best Served… After Reborn

It was already four in the morning, and Sophie was starting to feel the weight of her eyelids. She fished out her phone to shoot a quick text to Colby, just to check in on how things were going over on his end.

But this time, Colby was taking his sweet time getting back to her.

"That's odd..." Sophie mumbled.

"What's up?" Jenna asked, picking up on Sophie's unease.

"Colby's taking forever to reply. It's been like ten minutes. That's not like him at all."

Jenna, sitting at the vanity, felt her own nerves starting to fray. "You think something's up with Adler's wedding prep?"

"Come on, it's a wedding. Even if Adler can be a bit scatterbrained, he wouldn't mess around with something this big, right?"

Sophie thought it over and decided to err on the side of caution by giving Colby a call.

The line was busy forever, and eventually, no one picked up.

"What's going on?" Sophie huffed, her patience wearing thin.

Feeling the tension rise, Sophie resolved to give Colby one last shot. If he didn't answer, he'd have a lot of explaining to do when she got home.

Just as she was about to dial again, her phone buzzed-it was Colby.

"What's the deal? Why the radio silence? Is everything okay over there?" Sophie asked, a hint of worry in her voice.

"We hit a minor snag, but it's nothing we can't handle," Colby assured her quickly. "Don't worry, babe. I didn't mean to leave you hanging."

Sophie let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "So, everything's set for the wedding, right? Please tell me there's no issue with that."

Sophie you're overthinking it! We were just sorting out the gifts. You know, as the maid of honor, Colby wanted to make sure there are extra surprises for you."

"Are you sure?" Sophie pressed.

"Absolutely!" Adler replied, sounding a bit flustered. "When I say I'm on it, I mean it! Oh, we've got some urgent stuff to handle here, so I'll hang up now. Tell Jenna to just focus on being the beautiful bride she is. I promise she won't be let down." Cóntent

Sophie stared at her phone, still puzzled.

"Is everything really okay? Is there some issue with the wedding?" Jenna asked, her nerves getting the better of her.

Sophie shook her head. "Adler said everything's fine. They're just knee-deep in getting gifts ready for the bridesmaids."

"Does it really take that long to sort out bridesmaid gifts?"

Colby usually picked up Sophie's calls in a heartbeat, never letting it ring more than a couple of times. But this time, the line had been busy.

"Something feels off..." Jenna mused, rubbing her chin. "I knew Adler might not have it all together for the wedding planning! I need to get to the bottom of this."

doubt and hold off a little longer.
