In a cluttered and run–down warehouse, Hailey faced not only confinement but also harsh punishment from the Barlow family. Sonia watched as Hailey got struck by the rod repeatedly.

Hailey lay on the ground, barely clinging to life. Sonia stopped the punishment. “Don’t think you’re truly one of us just because we share the same last name. With your mother’s promiscuous nature, you might just be an illegitimate child.

“I only kept you close to Anderson to mend the relationship between him and his father. No hatred should be deep enough to -outweigh their bond.

“But you… You’ve taken after your mother, shamelessly trying to seduce your own brother,” Sonia berated.

Hailey sprawled on the floor like a stray dog. As blood flowed out of her mouth, she crawled toward Sonia and clutched at her pants. “P–Please… Please let me… have a look at her…”

Sonia saw the blood staining her pants and felt disgusted. She struck Hailey’s hand away with her cane. “I’ve told you it’s impossible! Reflect on your mistakes here. You can leave when it’s

over!”

“Please don’t, Grandma! I beg of you. My mom will die…”

As the rusty iron door clanged shut, the warehouse plunged into darkness. Hailey watched as the light outside gradually faded away. In the darkness, a rat scurried over her hand and paused to sniff the blood.

Hailey refused to believe that her mother was a murderer. In the

end, she couldn’t endure the pain anymore and fainted.

Anderson didn’t return for the next three days.

He would always return unless e encountered a problem at the

As usual, Mayra was still doing her homework at this hour.

A purple lightning bolt split the sky, followed by thunder and heavy rain. Mayra was in her nightgown and had damp hair from her shower. She set down her pen and got up to close the window.

The rain poured down as the wind blew against her face. The smell of rain filled the air. As she watched the downpour, she clutched her chest and felt an inexplicable heaviness.

When another loud thunder echoed, Mayra was startled. Just as she was about to turn away, the ceiling lights flickered, and the

entre mansion went dark.

Mayra was terrified of the dark. She was traumatized by it.

When Lucian tortured her in her past life, he would blindfold her, whip her, and burn her with hot iron. In the darkness, she couldn’t see anything and never knew what kind of torment awaited her

next

In a panic, she rummaged through the drawer for a flashlight. When she finally found one, it flickered once before going out.

In the pitch–black room, she stumbled and fell, injuring herself. However, she ignored the pain and limped downstairs.

Anderson had returned to the Barlow Estate while the household staff didn’t stay overnight at the mansion. Mayra was alone in the mansion now.

As she descended the stairs, she missed a step and fell.

At this moment, the front door opened. Amid the illumination

outside, a tall figure walked in and looked at the disheveled Mayra

on the floor.
