Chapter 23 - The Battle
Justus POV
I am standing in the courtyard waiting for Achard to make an appearance. I don't think he will run like a coward, he has too much arrogance for that. Finally I see him step outside the castle as his minions and vampires follow him. I turn to everyone behind me. "Today we make history. Today we avenge King Richard's murder. Today we become legends." I raise my fist in the air and they all cheer and howl in the air behind me.
I turn back around to face my half brother and I see vampires jumping in the air to attack as the King of Vampires and his army also jump in the air to defend us as both groups clash mid air. I start running at the other vampires that are running towards me using their inhumane speed. Before I know it one is in front me but I have been trained on how to fight vampires so their sudden appearance does not startle me instead I slash their throat out and then move on to the next one. The battle soon turns bloody and gory as five witches join the fight too.
They are throwing their balls of fire and lightning at us so I make a point of taking out all of the witches. They are lined up in a row at the back of the battle so this should not be too hard. I shift into my wolf form and move to the outside of the battle. The witches are paying so much attention to the battle and making sure their balls of fire hit their intended targets that they don't even notice me creeping up on them. I jump the first one and easily rip her head off. One down four more to go. The witch next to her starts throwing balls of fire at me but I dodge out of the way. One ball grazes past my leg and it hurts like a son of a bitch. Before she can throw another one I jump on her and rip her head off. As I am jumping on the witch I see Gracia is copying me on the other side of the battlefield and she took out her first witch so now it is three down and two to go. Neither Gracia nor I waste any time and jump on the last two witches. They never really had a chance before we ripped their throats out.
I turned to look at the battlefield and ran towards two vampires that were fighting Emil. He had a nasty shoulder wound and a deep gash along his ribcage. I jumped in the air and landed on top of the vampire that was about to bite Emil and I tore out his throat in a swift and easy kill. Seeing Justus fighting alongside him gave Emil an extra shot of energy so he could kill the other vampire he was fighting.
I looked over the battlefield and the battle was over. The only ones still standing were his companions and allies. "We need to move the wounded to the hospital and set aside any that are dead to be buried. If they need extra space or help in the infirmary let me know."
I moved through the wounded and the dead looking for familiar faces until I came across Delta Ermo, Jackin's father, laying in a pool of blood with his hand over his neck trying to stop the bleeding. But even if he stopped the bleeding the doctor's would still have to take out the toxins from the vampire's bite before adding clean blood back into him and right now I don't know if his body would survive.
"Gracia, over here!" She is walking through the wounded in her wolf form because as a white wolf she is a healer. She can heal with her hands but her wolf's saliva heals faster and is more powerful. As soon as I called her she came running over to where I was. "Jackin's father got bit by a vampire. We need to take the toxin out and close the wound. Can you do that?"
"Yes, I can handle that. I just need to lick his wound a couple of times." She mindlinked me. Since we are mates we can mindlink each other. She bent her head closer to his neck and started licking to slowly suck the venom out. When she was done she threw up a black tar-like substance. Then she went back to licking his wound to repair the tissue damage and close it. Jackin comes over to carry his dead to the infirmary.
We continued looking around for people to help that hadn't been taken away to the infirmary yet. Once Gracia had done all she could here she shifted back to her human form, grabbed a pair of shorts with a training bra, and left to go to the hospital to see if she could heal anyone there. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
I stopped looking around the wounded and the dead because there was one face that was not here. I couldn't believe that Achard was missing. I never took him for being a coward as I always thought his arrogance would prevent any cowardice. "Mack, Emil, Beta Augusto, Gamma Gosse, King Damon, and Prince Cassius I need your help to track down Prince Achard. He escaped probably through one of the many escape routes throughout the castle.
All of the escape routes take you to one location and it's about a mile's walk to a small cabin buried deep within the woods. As we make our way towards the cabin I start getting a bad feeling about this. Achard knows that I know of where the escape routes lead to. I used to hide out in this cabin when I was a child and even as a teenager this cabin was my place of solitude. "Guys, be ready for anything. I am starting to get the feeling this could be a trap." They all hummed in agreement with me.
We moved forward cautiously and the closer we got to the cabin we became more aware of our surroundings trying to look out for any sounds that are out of the ordinary, or maybe somebody stepping on dried brush, or moving in the shadows. But we could not hear anything and nor could we see anything other than the birds chirping and the breeze rustling the trees. Slowly we advanced on into the clearing surrounding the cabin when an arrow shot out of the trees and into Gamma Gosse in the back. As arrows started coming from the trees as Mack and I carried the Gamma around the corner of the cabin. We didn't trust going inside right now. As we all moved to the side of the cabin another arrow got Emil in the back of his thigh. He stumbled dragging his leg with him. We got both arrows out and they were covered in wolfsbane; however, my father believed that higher ranking wolves should be trained to withstand wolfsbane so we all were used to taking it in small quantities and had built up a resistance over the years.
We all got up and walked around to the other side of the cabin as we peeked in the windows of the cabin. As far as we could tell nobody was in there but we still didn't trust it until we had eliminated the outside threat. We slowly crept in a line around the clearing surrounding the cabin to the outside trees where the archer is. As we creep through the trees we see the archer and three more vampires standing in the trees. I motion for my companions for someone to get ready to jump up on each tree and kill the vampire in it. I have my eyes set on the archer who has their back turned to me. When everyone is in place we all make our moves at the same time. I jump up landing one foot against the tree and then using that to bounce off of to jump up next to the vampire and I rip his head off using my claws. I drop the head on the forest floor. I look over at my companions and they have all done the same.
We jump down from the trees and move towards the cabin. Beta Augusto opens the door and then I jump inside. The cabin is really small. It's one room with a bed, one table with four chairs, a dresser, a wardrobe, a tub for bathing, a stove, and some cabinets. So, it is a quick glance through the room to make it clear that nobody is here. That is when I hear a noise in the rafters and I look up as three vampires jump down and start fighting with us. They have the advantage of surprise but they are clearly outnumbered. It doesn't take us long to put down the three vampires.
But where is Achard?
