Chapter 60: It Was Quite a Destiny
Chapter 60: It Was Quite a Destiny
As Hayden returned home, she received a warm welcome from Stella.
“Mummy! You’re finally back! Did you have fun last night?”
Although she knew that Stella was still too young to understand the things in the adult world, Hayden still couldn’t help to give her a knock on her head.
“What’s so happy about it? Who told you to urge Noah’s father to go look for me at the engagement party?”
Stella rubbed her head in pain and flattened her lips, “It wasn’t me who brought it up, it was Noah and Godmother who said it. Godmother said that Joseph is a hero going to rescue the beauty.”
“You’re just blaming those who are not here, aren’t you?”
Hayden took a glance at her and got a glass of water at the table. Then, she asked casually, “What else did Godmother say?”
“Godmother also said that hero who saved the woman will win her heart at last.”
“Pfft!” Hayden spat out a mouthful of water spilling it all over the table. She coughed twice and then went furiously to bang on the master bedroom door.
“You’re only teaching her the bad things! Alayna Cole! Come out now!”
It was the weekend, and Alayna would normally sleep through the day at home, but after knocking for quite some time, no one answered. Hayden opened the door and saw the room as messy as a pigsty, but there was no sign of Alayna.
“Godmother left in the morning. She’s on a business trip!”
Stella ran over to her, “Godmother also mentioned that mummy you can invite Joseph home when she is not at home. She doesn’t mind at all.”
“No one wants to invite him!”
Hayden raised her and looked guilty. She attempted to hide her flushed face by covering it with her hands.
“Alright, alright. I’m so exhausted and I need to go to bed. Don’t make a mess okay? Now. go along and play.”
Stella was driven back to her room, but she peaked through a gap of the door and she still couldn’t help giggling with her mouth covered.
Looked like Godmother’s plan of the heroic rescue was working well! Indeed, Godmother had the ability to make it right, one was better than two!
In the afternoon, Hayden’s back was aching, which made her toss and turn as she was lying in the bed. She couldn’t sleep and kept recalling moments from last night. She was so blushed until she covered her face in the blankets, but after a while she pop her head out again to catch her breath because she couldn’t breathe underneath the sheets. Then, she began to sulk.
If it wasn’t for Alayna forcing her to go to that engagement party, all of this wouldn’t have happened. Moreover, if she hadn’t talked too much and urged Joseph to go there, this wouldn’t have happened. After all, the culprit was this guy!
When she got to this point, she suddenly came to her senses and felt that she was the one who had planned all of this!
Alayna’s flight was delayed, and she was waiting boringly in the airport. “Ding,” her phone received a voice message from WeChat. As she saw the sender, her frustrated expression immediately turned into a happy face, just like a cloudy sky had turned clear. She slowly swiped to unlock the screen on her phone and listened to Hayden’s accusations with a great mood.
“To be honest, did you force me to go to the engagement party while noticing Joseph because you already planned all of this?”
She pressed on the phone and leaned close to the microphone.
“How is that possible? Anyway, did something happen last night? Why didn’t you come back all night?”
“Nothing happened.”
“You’re looked so pissed off. I don’t believe nothing happened last night.”
The other end of the phone was silent and didn’t reply the message after quite some time.
Although they were not seeing each other face to face, Alayna could imagine seeing Hayden’s reddened face through the screen. However, it was a pity that she couldn’t see it with her very own eyes.
On the other hand, the airport broadcast informed her that her flight had arrived. She then slowly carried her handbag and got on the plane without a fuss. She lowered her voice and spoke into her phone.
“I’m on the plane now, so I won’t ask you about the details. But when I get back, only then you’ll need to share your night of passion to me!”
As she finished speaking, she switched off her phone immediately.
“Hey gorgeous, can I move your things in the luggage compartment to the side please?”
While the plane was broadcasting on the safety precautions, a deep man’s voice came from overhead.
Alayna didn’t even bother to take a look.
“It’s not mine, move whatever you want.”
“Thank you.”
The man thanked her politely. Just as he was moving the things, he suddenly stopped.
Alayna also found that the voice sounded so familiar. She put down the tablet in her hand and looked up.
In an instant, the four eyes met.
“It’s you!”
Both of the male and female voices overlapped, one from Alayna and one from Kevin.
After double-checking the seat number was correct, Kevin sat down next to Alayna and lifted his hand to shake hands, “Miss Cole, what a coincidence, we meet again.”
Alayna rolled her eyes and raised her hand to call the airhostess.
“Miss, how may I help you?”
“I want to change my seat.”
Kevin blushed; his hand froze in the mid-air in great embarrassment.
The airhostess also sensed the peculiar atmosphere between them and smiled awkwardly, “Miss Cole, the seats on this flight are all full, so we couldn’t change it for you.”
Alayna’s expression changed instantly and glanced at Kevin beside her with contempt.
‘“Not even in economy class? It’s fine to switch me to economy class, as long as I don’t sit with this guy. I’m fine to go to the steward room with you guys.”
“What do you mean?” Kevin frowned at her and said unhappily, “I didn't even ask for a seat change, and you're still getting worked up?"
“I just simply couldn’t stand a man who is ill-mannered at all and simply touch women to sit beside me!”
Alayna’s face was cold and aloof.
“I’m so sorry, but there are really no extra seats left.”
The airhostess had embarrassment written all over her face.
Kevin also pulled his face straight and sneered back.
“You see, no one is happy now. I think you’re just a hater of the society, aren’t you? The plane is about to take off and you’re still here embarrassing an airhostess. Now you called me ill-mannered, I guess you’re the one who is ill-mannered!”
“You!”
Alayna frowned and gave the airhostess an understanding look to let her leave first. Then, she glared at Kevin and said, “I’m too lazy to argue with you. I warn you, the whole flight takes four hours to arrive, we’ll just pretend that we never met before. So, don’t talk to me at all.”
“I…”
After being criticized for a few times, Kevin was not angry anymore. Instead, he was rather a little curious.
What had he done to make this woman hate him so much? Every time they met, she acted like she was going to explode. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
The corner of his eye caught a glimpse of the work permit on the table beside Alayna’s hand, and his eyes suddenly brightened up a bit.
The words ‘Orange Light Cultural Media Event’ were printed clearly on it. So, she was also going to attend Orange Light’s cultural media event?
If that so, then it was quite a destiny.
Kevin grinned and showed a purposeful smile on his face.
The following day was Monday.
Leaving aside all the ‘mishaps’ that happened during the weekend, Hayden started to focus on preparing the venue set up for the centennial celebration of ST Group. She spent the whole day keeping an eye on the area segregation for the set up.
“The posters on the board are not suitable. Make it nicer. Don’t make it look like we have that renovation cacophony over. Try not to cause a nuisance to the guests who are currently staying in the hotel.”
“And over here, don’t pile things up. Put away all the things into the warehouse. Only take out when you need it. It doesn’t matter to walk another two more trips.”
While she was busy in the afternoon, a receptionist shouted from the reception area, “Ms. Downey, there’s a gentleman here looking for you.”
Hayden was in the middle of directing workers to place the new chandeliers. When she heard the voice and looked, she saw a familiar figure standing at the reception area. After all these years, that figure was a bit hunched, which seemed much older than she remembered.
