Chapter 1325
Chapter 1325
Both of them sat down to have breakfast. Lucas was extremely caring for her. He helped fill her plate with food, and all the detailed actions just made a person’s heart
flutter.
Especially his eyes. They were so gentle and doting when he looked at Anne.
They seemed to be enveloping her in the most comfortable place where she could smell the sun in every breath.
Anne felt like crying. She was afraid that Lucas would see the tears welling up in her eyes, so she could only lower her head to cover it up.
This was the warmth she had once liked and longed for, and also the perfect peace and quiet she would have in her whole life if she were to marry Lucas.
Unfortunately, she had no choice but to give it up.
Later, she learned after she fell for Anthony that her fondness for Lucas was not love.
However, she could not tell him such a thing. It would be too hurtful.
Even if she did not tell him that, Anne was still feeling incredibly guilty and upset deep down.
Why could she not fall in love with Lucas? If she had fallen in love with him, she would have grabbed this man and had him run to a faraway place with her without caring for anything else.
At that moment, it felt as if Lucas was the only one giving, and she was despicable for not being able to give him anything in return.
“Is the food here to your liking?” Lucas asked gently as he saw her keep eating without saying a word and her emotions appeared down.
“I’m used to it. Have you forgotten? I’ve stayed abroad for about seven years in the past. I’ve long gotten used to it. Besides, they know how to make food from our home country,” said Anne after she suppressed the congestion she felt in her chest. After a pause, she asked, “Are you not going to return to the country anymore?”
“Luton is Anthony’s territory. It’s completely pointless for me to go there,” said Lucas, “I can just have a fresh start here. It’s no big deal.”
He said it so casually as if he had only lost a car or a house that did not worth much.
However, how was it possible…
“Are your parents…alright?” Anne asked with concern, “Mrs. Newman called me, but I still could not stop it. She must be very disappointed… I’m sorry.”
“It was indeed a huge blow to them at first, but they are also very clear that this is not caused by you. It’s Anthony. You are just like us. We’re all victims,” Lucas comforted
her.
Anne’s head felt heavy. She supported her forehead with one hand and her breath was shaking. “You have no idea…how much I hate him. I hate him so much! Why… can’t he show mercy for the sake of the children? I can’t understand…how can a person be so heartless, so obsessive, and so scary…”
Her tears still streamed down her face beyond her control.
“Anthony is cold–blooded and heartless. He is like this to everyone. He doesn’t have a human heart.” Lucas‘ gaze behind his glasses was sharp and dark beyond measure.
Anne did not refute. She just felt even more heartbroken.
Because all these were true!
She felt a sense of warmth at the back of her hand as her hand was gently enveloped by Lucas. “Slowly forget the past. Everything will be better.”
Anne lifted her face to look at him while tears were streaming down her face.
Her gaze looked miserable and lost.
She knew she would never forget the past. That kind of pain had already been etched in her bones. There were also her children whom she missed. Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
How could everything get better then?
She did not have such confidence…
After breakfast, Lucas took her out for a walk in the woods near the house.
They were walking on a tree–lined path beneath their feet, and the trees towering
above their heads provided shade. Rays of sunshine were shining through the gaps
between the leaves.
They were on private property, so nobody else would come over.
It was serene and perfect.
Suddenly, Anne felt that it was not the house that was expensive, but it was the natural scenery here instead.
Anne had been studying in the house for a few days, but she has not been to this
place.
Lucas kept walking forward with her. Then, Anne could not help but ask, “Where are we going?”
“You’ll know when we get there.” Lucas was being mysterious.
Anne has no clue what surprise he wanted to give her. She just followed him quietly.
There was a small hill ahead that they needed to climb up.
