Chapter 46
"You're always insisting on evidence, aren't you? Well, this prescription is the evidence! Now that we have both witnesses and proof, what do you have to say for yourself?"
Facing Dr. Grey's questioning, I slapped the prescription onto the table. "This prescription was indeed issued under my name."
"So, you're admitting it?"
Before he finished, I shook my head. "I said it was issued under my name, not that I was the one who issued it. Standard procedure is that once a doctor writes a prescription, it goes through a review, then to Nora for printing and dispensing. Only after that is it given to the patient. Correct?"
Everyone nodded, and I clapped my hands. "Good. Then come with me to my office. Since you claim it came from my computer, there should be evidence of it. If the evidence proves that it really came from me, I'll accept whatever punishment you give; but if it didn't, then I'm sorry-all of you owe me an apology. Especially you."
I pointed at Samuel. "You were the loudest the last time and this time too. Are you that eager to kick me out?"
Samuel's expression turned cold from being targeted by me. "I just don't want someone who puts patients at risk to stay in our department. If you didn't do anything wrong, who would want you gone?"
"Fair enough. Let's go."
I ignored him and headed straight to my office. The other doctors exchanged glances but still followed behind me.
If the prescription existed, there had to be a trace of it on the computer. If we could find the record, there would be no way for me to deny it.
Samuel's lips curled slightly. He couldn't wait for me to check the computer. After what happened last time, he made sure there would be a record this time. This was his proof.
I turned on the computer and pulled up the prescription for the patient in Room 505. As expected, everyone immediately saw it.noveldrama
"Are you still claiming it wasn't you? Your name is right there, Dr. Ranford, and the record is on your computer. What else is there to deny?" Mr. Grey slammed the table and glared at me.
I wasn't surprised and simply refreshed the system.
"We all know how outdated these hospital-issued computers are. The interface is just lagging. Take another look now."
Everyone turned back to the screen, and a completely different prescription appeared. The medication was all correct and even included my notes.
"Prescription was tampered with by an unknown party. Please take this version as the official one."
At the same time, I pulled up the withdrawal request, which had been successfully submitted. The prescription had been replaced.
But for some reason, the one everyone saw was the old version I had already withdrawn.
I looked over at Samuel. In the crowd, his face turned pale.
"This can't be. It's not possible..." he muttered to himself.
I smiled. "Why not? Nora, why don't you explain?"
The commotion had already caught Nora's attention. She had been standing outside the door but only stepped in when she heard me call for her.
"Yesterday, the patient in Room 505 showed signs of shock. After Dr. Ranford identified the trigger, he told me the prescription for today would be adjusted. When he got back, he found that the original prescription had been changed, so he immediately printed out a new one and personally gave it to me to deliver to the nurses so that they would use that version for dispensing.
"But for some reason, when the medication got to Room 505, it had been switched again. It was switched to follow the prescription that had already been withdrawn and was no longer valid."
What do you think?
