Chapter 34
Chapter 34 Don’t You Think We’ve Been Unlucky?
After arriving in the corridor, Freya called her mother to calm her down and explained to her that Braxton was already out of danger.
Just as she hung up, another call came in.
It was from Isabella.
“Frey, have you seen the news online?” she asked.

“What news? Is it important?” Freya had no mood to think about online matters now. And also, if it had not been for Radley withdrawing the Twitter trending topics, Braxton wouldn’t have been so enraged to find Radley to demand an explanation.
Isabella laughed on the other end of the line. The angelic b*tch Danna issued an apology statement to you on Twitter!”
An apology statement?
Freya’s gaze turned cold. Could her apology make up for Braxton’s injured leg?
“What are you doing. Frey? Do you want me to read her apology post to you? I have to say, her tactics are quite impressive! She apologized so meekly and weakly—”
Freya pinched the bridge of her nose, and her eyes turned cold and sharp. “I don’t really bother, and I’m not interested in her affairs. Izzy, I have some matters to attend to right now, and I’ll get back to you later.”
With that, she hung up the phone without mentioning Braxton’s car accident for the time being.
Having lost two years of memories, she didn’t know what had happened between her brother and Isabella, or what their relationship was like now.
She decided to ask Braxton when he woke up later.
In just half an hour, Freya received a call from her mother who had arrived at the hospital downstairs. After that, she went downstairs to meet her mother.
Seeing that all the Kaufmann family members were present. Matthew didn’t stay any longer and left.
Before leaving, he reminded Freya, “Ki-Frey, feel free to contact me if you need anything.”
Freya absentmindedly responded with an acknowledgment.
Sylvia, who was crying as she watched her son, gave Matthew an extra glance as she said. “Matthew, thank you for today.”
After Matthew left, Freya and her mother stayed by Braxton’s side until he woke up again.
While Braxton was still unconscious, Sylvia had cried so much that her eyes had turned red. When she saw her son wake up, she immediately suppressed her sadness and put on an angry face.
“What happened to you? Don’t you know how to drive carefully? I’ve told you so many times not to drive Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
with emotions!”
Braxton lay on the hospital bed, looking weak as he stared helplessly at his mother. “Mom, I wasn’t driving
emotionally. I was hit while waiting at a red light.”
“Waiting for a red light?” Freya frowned slightly as her doubts grew stronger.

After Braxton woke up from the anesthesia, the doctor came over to explain his situation. Since he had suffered serious injuries to his muscles and bones, he would take at least a hundred days to recover. Considering the severity of his injuries, he would also need to lie down for three to four months and might need to undergo additional rehabilitation for another period.
That said, he wouldn’t be able to engage in any strenuous physical activity for the next six months.
With that, Freya asked Ethan Griffiths to find two professional caregivers to take care of her brother. As the day broke, she finally convinced her reluctant mother to go home for a rest.
In the hospital ward, Freya had finished asking the doctor about all the precautions.
Braxton sat beside her, chuckling as he watched her. “You’re just being overly cautious. There’s nothing to worry about, and I only have to be more careful with my bones.”
However, she suddenly became serious. “Being cautious is always good. Who knows exactly how you ended up here?”
Being a savvy person, Braxton immediately sensed that something was wrong. “Frey, what do you mean by this?”
“Brax, don’t you think our Kaufmann family has been too unlucky lately?” Freya opened the food container that had been sent over from home, and her subordinate removed the food that the doctor had advised against one by one.
With a hint of sharpness in her eyes, she spoke slowly. “It’s only been a short while since I had a car accident, and now you got into one too. And at the time of your accident, semi-trucks were not even allowed on Tranquility Avenue.”
Braxton’s expression gradually turned cold.
“Brax, you know that I lost all my memory from the past two years, but lately, I’ve been feeling that something is not right.”
Freya narrowed her eyes. “Why did I fall in love with Radley in the first place?”
At this, Braxton suddenly looked up and met her gaze.
He gritted his teeth, and his voice became unusually heavy as he answered, “Because of a car accident. That car accident almost killed you, and it was Radley who saved you. That’s how you got to know him.”
Although she didn’t feel the need to explore her past with Radley, she couldn’t help but point it out. “Two years ago, I had a car accident, and not long ago, I had another one. And now, you’ve been hit.”
Freya’s voice became cold and piercing as she asked, “Brax, don’t you find it suspicious that everything seems too coincidental?”
At this, Braxton looked up and squinted. His usual carefree demeanor was replaced by a thoughtful expression. “It can’t be that our family is unlucky. I don’t believe in superstition.”
With that, the siblings exchanged a glance, and both sensed that something was amiss.
After breakfast, Freya spent some time chatting with Braxton.
Since Braxton was bed-ridden now, whoever was after the Kaufmann family might be targeting the Kaufmann Group.
During Braxton’s recovery period, Freya would take over the management of the company.

After some discussion, Freya used her phone to connect to her virtual machine to thoroughly investigate the two caregivers that Ethan had found.
After confirming that nothing was suspicious, only then did she allow the two caregivers to stay with Braxton while she went to retrieve his medical report in another building which was quite far away.
Many people were coming to the hospital in the morning, and the smell of disinfectant mixed with all kinds of scents made Freya feel nauseous.
After walking down a long corridor, Freya covered her mouth and couldn’t hold back the acid reflux.
Immediately, she rushed to a nearby trash can to throw up.
After vomiting up her breakfast, Freya wiped away the tears that had welled up from her reaction caused by nausea.
She furrowed her brows in perplexity as she wondered why she felt sick even though the breakfast she had was brought from home, which should have been safe to eat.
Lately, she had been feeling nauseous from time to time.
After walking a few steps, she sat down on a bench to ease the feeling of nausea.
Not far away, a sweet couple walked by, and the woman’s protruding belly caught her attention.
In an instant, a flash of white light crossed her mind as she realized something.
She hadn’t had her menstruation in almost two months since she returned home!
Freya lowered her head abruptly and trembled as she touched her belly.
It can’t be true!
A cool breeze blew, sending shivers down her spine.
As she pursed her lips tightly, she clenched the report sheet in her hand.
It was fortunate that she was in the hospital right now!
Freya turned around and went back to the building where she retrieved her brother’s report.
After that, she took out her ID card from her bag and registered at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Sitting in the corridor, she saw the couple from earlier again. The man was touching his wife’s belly with a look of happiness and satisfaction on his face. They laughed and talked as they entered the doctor’s office.
Freya bit her lip as her eyes filled with mixed emotions.
An hour later, the sun was scorching.
She exited the building while holding the crumpled test results.
The intense sunlight outside caused her to feel dizzy. As she looked at the results on the paper, the doctor’s words echoed in her ears.
“Miss Kaufmann, congratulations! You have been pregnant for 70 days now.”
70 days?!
Freya estimated the time and found out that she had conceived before her memory loss.
The baby in her belly belonged to Radley.
