Maxwell, still stung by the harsh scolding, pressed his lips together tightly. “I'm not,” he muttered under his breath.

On the other end of the line, the commander continued his relentless lecture, berating them for supposedly being role models, only to sink so low into petty criminal behavior. He felt embarrassed to be connected with them.

What should have been a moment of pride, with Maxwell returning triumphantly from his mission, had turned into an utter disgrace.

The timing couldn't have been worse, right in the middle of the holidays.

After the call ended, Liam, his fists clenched tightly with veins bulging, stormed out, his anger radiating off him.

Maxwell stepped in his way immediately. “Liam, where do you think you're going?”

He grabbed Liam by the arm and turned him around. That was when he saw the rage burning in Liam's eyes. “Charmaine,” Liam growled, his voice low and full of fury. "She's the one who got me fired. I'm going to make her pay for this."

The mention of Charmaine's name made everyone in the Nelson family visibly stiffen.

Valda was the first to react, her face showing disbelief. “Charmaine? What on earth does that brat have to do with this?!"

Zayn, ever calm, spoke up. “So, the person who sent the evidence to the police was Charmaine?"

Maxwell's face froze, and a dark realization settled over him. “Liam, I warned you not to go overboard." Liam, now nearly frantic, began to explain.

"She had been bullying Leah and her friend. I couldn't just stand by and watch. I didn't do anything too bad, just a small reminder for her to not get too cocky. I even had someone return her things, But who could've known she'd turn around and stab me in the back like this!"

Veronica, who had been with them, quickly supported Liam's account. “Jonah's right. I was there too. Charmaine didn't lose anything. In fact, the store manager and staff fired the girl who served her just to please Charmaine. We never expected her to be so cruel. She didn't lose a thing, but she still turned on Jonah!"

Valda, still seething from earlier with Charmaine, slammed her hand down on the table in frustration. "Unbelievable! That evil brat deserves to face real consequences!"

While Valda couldn't change Liam's dismissal, she couldn't stand the thought of Maxwell losing his hard- earned honors-because of Charmaine. That was unforgivable.

Earlier that afternoon, Leah had heard about what happened at the mall from Veronica, and she had been furious at how useless both of them were.

Celeste immediately stepped in front of Charmaine, protecting her. “Just because you're good-looking doesn't mean you can act like you own the place. You think you can just march up and order Charmaine around?" Maxwell didn't even look at Celeste. His gaze stayed locked on Charmaine, as though a storm was brewing

inside him.

"You made this mess. Aren't you going to clean it up?" he hissed, his voice dripping with contempt.
