Chapter 717
Aiken’s tone was noticeably gentle and respectful when he spoke to Skylar, as if she held great significance in his eyes. This stark contrast darkened Vera’s
expression.
“Maybe another time. I have plans with friends,” Skylar replied. NôvelDrama.Org exclusive content.
Aiken nodded thoughtfully, a smile on his face. “Alright, next time.”
He then turned to Vera. “Do you know Ms. Sullivan?”
Vera’s smile held a hint of sarcasm. “We just met. The car she’s driving now is one I gave to Joe. So I was curious and came over to talk to her. It seems like you know her quite well?”
Women like Skylar, who were naturally beautiful, instinctively used their looks to get what they wanted from men. There were probably more men around her than just Joe. Vera didn’t even notice the contempt in her tone.
But Aiken was different from Joe. He had many women coming and going around him, and no one knew how many female celebrities and models he had slept with.
Unaware of Vera’s thoughts, Skylar and Aiken might have found her assumptions amusing if they knew.
“I see. Let my driver take you home then. It’s rush hour, and traffic is heavy. Driving now would be exhausting. You should rest and take care of your injuries.” Aiken’s first two words were in response to Vera, followed by his concern and inquiry about Skylar.
His care was genuine, not faked. He was exceptionally thoughtful.
Anyone familiar with Aiken knew he rarely showed such care toward women. Usually, it was the other way around. His attitude toward Skylar was something entirely different.
“I’m recovering well, and it’s close to home from here. I can manage it on my own. Thank you. Please let Simona know. I’ll invite you both for a meal sometime.” Skylar declined the offer. Her injury was minor, and driving herself wasn’t a problem.
Vera watched in surprise as Skylar got into the car and drove away. When she came to her senses, he turned to Aiken who was still watching Skylar leave.
“Do you know she’s being kept by Joe now?” Vera asked.
Aiken’s frown deepened, and his voice carried a note of detachment. “She doesn’t need anyone to keep her.”
Vera paused and was momentarily taken aback. Suddenly, a pang of realization hit her. Had she jumped to conclusions and misunderstood something?
“Do you like her?” Vera asked tentatively.
Aiken glanced at his watch. Without answering, he replied coldly, “I have things
to do. We’ll talk another time.”
Vera wouldn’t have felt so unsettled if it hadn’t been for Aiken’s genuine concern for Skylar. After all, that was just how Aiken was. He could smile and be pleasant to others, but his warmth often felt insincere, leaving people unable to see his true thoughts.
From the moment she boarded the flight back to the country, Vera had hoped that just her return would make Joe notice her.
But all she could think about was Skylar now.
In a private room of a Floan restaurant, Charles arrived punctually.
However, the private room was empty except for Felicia. There was no sign of Oswald or even Felicia’s celebrity agent, Adele.
