These questions lingered like a stubborn thorn in Jessie’s mind. She couldn’t rest until she unravelled the truth!
There was one person central to these mysteries: her father, Peter. However, he lay in a coma, unresponsive as if trapped in a vegetative state, offering no answers.
Jessie resolved to start her investigation with those closest to her father.
She took her phone, planning to contact her father’s driver and assistant, only to find two unread messages waiting for her.
The first message was a notification of a successful hospital payment, a hefty sum of fifty thousand dollars transferred to Peter’s account from an unknown source.
The second message was from Celia. Jessie, I just visited your father at the hospital. I took care of the medical bills. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you need. help. Remember, even if your father and I are divorced, you’re still my daughter.
Jessie’s emotions churned as she read the text.
Celia had failed miserably as a wife and mother. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have. abandoned her only daughter, Jessie, when she was just eight years old.
Yet now, she was willing to offer financial support, which was an extremely generous gesture.
However, this money would only alleviate their immediate troubles. Peter’s ongoing treatment required a continuous stream of funds, funds she couldn’t afford and she also refused to accept help from Celia.
That was the reason she needed Chase’s 1.5 million–dollar separation fee..
Instead of replying to Celia, Jessie continued to scroll through her contacts, dialling each number one by one.
Oddly, every call went unanswered, each number turning out to be empty numbers.

Jessie pondered. Since the Summers family’s accident, these people had moved out of Anceburg City, even abroad. She suspected the Thompson family’s involvement.
What was Chase hiding?
The Summers family’s connections proved futile, leaving Jessie no choice but to seek help from the Thompson family.
Glancing at her wristwatch, she realised it was only seven o’clock; they should still be on their way to pick up Chase. Jessie dialled Tom’s number.
Fortunately, after a few rings, Tom picked up. “Madam,” he answered, maintaining his customary politeness.
Hearing the long–unheard title, Jessie put aside her concerns and spoke, “Mr. Meyer, I have a favour to ask. I hope you can help me with this.”
There was a brief pause on the other end before Tom replied, “Please go ahead, Madam, though I can’t guarantee I can solve your problem.”
Jessie murmured in agreement, then went straight to the point, “Do you know anything about Chase’s little sister?”
Tom’s heart skipped a beat on the other end of the line before he hesitantly replied, “Madam, you know we dare not inquire about Mr. Thompson’s matters. Even if we knew, we wouldn’t dare to tell you. Please understand.”
With a hint of tears in her voice, Jessie pleaded, “I know this puts you in a difficult. position, but I’ve run out of options. Chase won’t talk, my father just had surgery and hasn’t regained consciousness yet, and the Summers family’s downfall has cut off all leads. Even if I die, I want to die with clarity, rather than being tormented by uncertainty day and night.”
“Madam, Miss’s affairs are Mr. Thompson’s forbidden territory. We don’t know much about it. Please don’t/mak
it hard for me.”
“Okay,” Jessie said disappointedly. She had to hang up the phone and consider. other options.
Suddenly, Tom interjected, “Madam, how long has it been since you went to Mr. Thompson’s grandmother’s cemetery?”

Jessie was taken aback. When she was about to inquire further, Tom had already hung up.
Chase’s grandmother had been kind to Jessie during her lifetime and often sided with Jessie whenever Chase provoked her.
Chase had once joked that Jessie was the true granddaughter of his grandmother, while he was just an adopted grandson.
After Chase’s grandmother passed away, Jessie had been deeply saddened for a long time. She often accompanied Chase to the Thompson family cemetery to pay
respects.
However, she couldn’t recall when Chase had stopped her from going to the Thompson family cemetery.
Recalling Tom’s final words, Jessie knew that as long as she went to the Thompson family cemetery, she would surely find leads.
