Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 957

He had that kind of smile that felt like a warm spring breeze, but Matilda couldn't help but shiver a bit inside. She realized she'd misjudged him. She thought he was all refined and gentlemanly, but underneath, he was quite the powerhouse.

Initially, she hadn't planned to go all in. But Matilda had no patience for men lacking backbone. She was initially drawn to Blaine just for his good looks, thinking it might be a bit of fun. Now, though, she saw him in a completely different light.

She liked this kind of intense character-someone with grit and undeniable charm.

With a slight smile and a newfound admiration in her eyes, Matilda's tone softened, almost without noticing. "Alright, I get it."

"You focus on getting better. I'll take care of everything else."

She paused, glancing at Blaine's leg in its cast. "In your condition, you really need someone to help out. I know an excellent caregiver who's very thorough. I'll have her come by and look after you."

Blaine accepted her offer graciously. "Thanks, Mr. Jaime."

Matilda gave a playful smile. "No need for formalities between us."

As Matilda stepped out of the hospital room, she pulled out her phone and dialed Alexa, who picked up almost instantly.

"Hey, Matilda! What's up?"

"Nurse Xu, my boyfriend's busted his leg and needs about two weeks of rest. He'll need someone around the clock. Can you help out? I'll make sure it's worth your while."

Alexa usually didn't do 24-hour gigs because she had to be home for her kid. She was about to say no, but the compensation Matilda mentioned was a game- changer. It would cover her child's insulin for months.

After a brief hesitation, she agreed. Two weeks of work for a few months of peace of mind was a solid deal.

Matilda: "Perfect! I'll send you the room info shortly. See you tomorrow morning." Alexa: "Got it. Thanks, Matilda."

Over at Moon Bay, Everett came rushing over as soon as he got the call.

Selena was on the living room sofa, looking pale, her hands twisting anxiously, her whole body trembling a bit.

She'd seen the school's surveillance footage, and the woman taking Mateo looked eerily like her-sø

But she had no twin, and even Breanne Mallie, who looked somewhat like her, wasn't this identical.

She couldn't figure out who this woman was, and without that info, tracking her was impossible, which only heightened the risk to Mateo, making her panic even more.

As a mother, she'd rather take the hit herself than let her child be in danger.

Seeing her distress, Everett's heart ached. He rushed over, crouched in front of Selena, and pulled her into a tight hug.

Selena slowly lifted her gaze to meet his.

Alright?

Suddenly, she let out a bitter laugh, pushed Everett away, and without warning,
